  1. Wow, very nice of you to put this thread together. I have done melt and pour soaping, but have been wanting to try CP soapmaking. This is a wealth of great info, thank you again for sharing. Cannot wait to get started!
  2. I started out in my kitchen as well, then I moved to the basement. Not a great workspace there yet either, currently use a couple of old tables one for pouring and one for measuring and melting wax. However, we are finishing the basement and I am finally going to have a nice space down there to work with. I will be putting in some cabinets and probably looking for some remnant granite (got to find it cheap), so I can set my hot pour pots directly on it and just wipe any wax drippings off of it. I feel your pain with the stuff all over the counters and what not as I have been there.
  3. Thanks, I will definitely have to check out that website as well as the LLC rules in WI. I appreciate the advice.
  4. Thanks so much! I think I will try the free Avery one first. Thanks again.
  5. I am still just doing this as a hobby, give to family and friends, but I want to eventually branch out by next year this time to craft fairs and what not. I know it is important to have insurance and what not so that if something were to happen, my home finances would be safe. Any suggestions on insurance carriers in WI? Also should I get an LLC too? Any thoughts would be great! TIA!
  6. Hi all, Do any of you make your own candle labels? I used to purchase them made for me, but then I have to add another label with scent name separate to save costs. Plus the person I used to purchase from is no longer reliable. I have purchased some clip art that I have tried to use in the past, but having a hard time with Word. Is there any progam any of you can suggest that may be more user friendly for creating a nice professional looking label? TIA!
  7. That sounds like a good idea. . . I may have to try that out first. Thanks everyone for the help.
  8. I used to use just soy and had the same problem. Now when I add a little beeswax they burn much nicer. . .
  9. Thanks for the input! Never thought about melting the dye flakes seperate, seems like it would be messy though. . . I think I will buy a liquid dye and see how it goes, do some testing. Have a great day!
  10. They all sound like wonderful scents! I cannot wait to get started on some new ones and some new types of jars. Good luck with your new candles!!
  11. That is a great idea. I should probably purchase some more wax then. I guess I never really thought about it going bad or not performing as well. Silly of me not to think of it but. . . Thanks again!
  12. I hope it doesn't, I have had my box of soy flakes for a couple of years. I keep it stored in my dry cool basement, so maybe that helps. So far I have had no problems. . . Would be interesting to find out what the manufacturer says. I would send them an email or call them. I may do that for my soy supplier and see what they have to say.
  13. Hi all, I usually use dye wax flakes to color my candles. But I have to heat the wax up even hotter to add the color so that it can melt the dye flakes. This makes my processing time much longer. I thought about not coloring them and my family (pretty much the only people who get my candles at this point) really liek them colored. So I am looking for something more efficient. I have never tried liquid dyes. Do they work well? Do you have to heat the wax up to a certain temp to use them? And if you do use them and love them, any suggestions as to suppliers that would be great. Oh I use EZ soy wax flakes. . . I appreciate any help!! Thanks in advance!!!
  14. Do the clothespins work really well? I have these metal ones that work so so, but I have a whole bag of clothespins and not very many metal things. . . I am finally going to get back to my candles tonight and any method that will make life easier and cheaper I am all for! Thanks.
  15. Your candles look wonderful!! I cannot wait until I am brave enough to try something other than jars!! Oh and when I have the time to be brave enough.
  16. I would buy the jars. I love jarcandles.
  17. Hope this helps. Thanks again for any input you all have!!
  18. Mine also did the same thing the first few times I used it.
