KY all natural votive/pillar wax

Recommended Posts

First time making a pillar ( 3"x6" ) I sprayed the inside with generic no stick cooking spray, wiped out the excess, poured my pillar, ( it really took a long time for it to cool, I didn't think it would take that long for it to cool.) I didn't have any problems in getting the pillar out of the metal mold, but It still feels oily, Is ther anything I can do to where it doesn't feel so oily to the touch?

I have a couple more questions, If anyone could help. My mold is 3" wide x 6 1/2" tall, Am I suppose to fill the mold all the way up? (I thought 1 lb of wax would fill it but it didn't, I'll have to melt more next time.)

Do the cotton wicks work the best in pillars? And could you give my some suggestion on which wicks to start testing with?

Thanks for any and all help would be appriciated

The mold that you used holds 1.5 pounds of wax. I fill it up on the first pour. It will shrink a little. I poke it and repour. I use RRD wicks in my pillars, and I don't spray my molds with anything. That is probably the oily feeling you are getting. If you have any trouble getting it out of the mold stick it in the fridge for a while. It will slide right out.

Misty thanks for the help and if you don't mind answering a few more question about pillars. I can use all the help I can get.

How long do you let it set up, before you poke your relief holes and repour?

Can you give me a suggestion on what size RRD wick I might start with on a 3"x6" pillar
