lindanelson
I made my first chunk pillar today. I am using EcoSoya votive/pillar wax. LX26 wick. My chunks and overpour are the same wax.The candle is 4" dia. I have been buring it for 4 hours now. There is about 1" all around the candle. Is this how pillars burn? Or do I need to get a different wick?Thank you,Linda Nelson
topofmurrayhill
Here are some wicking suggestions from NGI:http://www.ngiwax.com/UsingEcoSoya/PBVBTips.phpAccording to those guidelines it seems like you should be using LX 30 and you might still have to settle for a thick shell around the melt pool. Or you could try 3 inch pillars, which are easier to wick for better consumption. Soy pillars should leave some shell in any case.Good luck!PS - We have a special forum where you can post about vegetable wax candlemaking. DiamondCreek Candles
You should have about 1/4" of wax all the way around the pillar once you achieve a good melt pool, you need to wick up!!
Fern
RRD wicks seem to work very well in the natural waxes. With a 4" candle you may want to start with an RR-50, but may have to go up to a 55.
lindanelson
Thank you very much. It looks like I'll be ordering some more wick.Linda NelsonP. S. The candle turned out really nice, even if it doesn'nt burn right.
Pam W
Agree with wicking up but I don't think an LX30 will do the job in a 4". I use the #30 in some 3" and that's about all that size can do! But, I'm not familiar with the wax you are using either.
ladydragon
I use an LX 28 in Eco Soy Pillar Blend in 3" diameters and a 30 if it's a heavy oil...I've not managed to get a 4" burning as well as the 3" yet...
