skg
Hi all, I just received some of my supplies to make my first batch of soap - Is there a certain way I should be storing the various oils, shea butter, etc? TIA - Sandy
CareBear
For the most part keeping them in a fairly cool place is enough.
skg
Ok thanks I just wanted to be sure - I thought I had read somewhere you were supposed to refrigerate the shea butter. Its all so expensive I dont want any of it to go bad lol
CareBear
Some oils have a short shelf life (walnut - 3 months, some say Grapeseed - 6 months) so those you might want to refrigerate. Shea is pretty much ok - if you bought a whole lot and plan to keep it a year you might want to make sure it is really well wrapped and refrigerate it, but I don't think it's much of an issue. hawaiiansun
Because of the weather here I refrig all my butters and some oils. Besides,I don't have much food so it makes my fridge look full. :laugh2:

SheilaW
I keep most of my oils and butters in the refrigerator now. (I freeze my excess shea.) Since I'm a hobbyist only, I don't use them as quickly as someone with a business and of course when I first started out I wanted to try every single oil and butter out there:undecided . I was storing them on a shelf in my air conditioned kitchen and ended up throwing a lot of lbs of butters and oils in the trash:cry2: So to prevent having to do that again I just put them in the frig.
