Who also was going to put a good word for me with the school district for a possible fundraiser. And have a candle party for me.Well she saw me talking to this gentleman, who owns a store (in her words, a dirty store) who was a potential wholesale customer, Private label one tooboot. And willing to buy alot. Anyways my business name wasn't going to on any of the labels at all. Agreed by both of us.And totally flipped out on me on the phone, she told me that she didn't think I was that way, and that she isn't buying off of someone that would associate themselves with that type of business. And the fundraiser and party were off.I tried explaining to her in a business perspective what I was doing but she was totally freaking out still. Now she thinks I'm a dirty person, lol.Oh well I guess, you win some you lose some. I know it's different from district to district and state to state, but I've taught for over 30 yrs. and there is no one single person who makes decisions about fundraisers. Each group (cheerleaders, FBLA, ROTC, Band, etc) has a faculty advisor. The individual groups decide on fundraisers and then apply for the permission. Usually it's just a rubber stamp procedure done through the principal but filed in the district office. All teachers and club advisors get tons of stuff on fundraisers to choose from. If you know some teachers, ask them what the procedure is in your area.Just in case she does have some clout, look elsewhere. We've done candles for March of Dimes, etc. locally. Also, if you know someone in the VFW Ladies Aux, give them a pitch. We do fundraisers for something EVERY month in our chapter.My vote is to go with dirty man and be creative. And as far as the dirty guy goes, he wants to buy $200 to start with. He says he wants to have them in his shop by Christmas. He said you wouldn't believe how many people come into his shop, during Christmas. I said ya probably alot of men, he told me NO, alot of women come in. I was shocked.So he thinks a candle line would be a great add on. And I think so to.And like you guys said and also my mom. Fundraiser Oppertunities are everywhere, you just have to go for it yourself. My neices are involved in many things, my son is going to school this year, and my mother is involved in many things with the community. So who needs her.Anyways, I'll update you to tell you the names he picks out for the candles. Cherry I could come up with several names, but banana I haven't a clue, but I can just imagine the name is going to be hilarious.I'm going to the store tonight, to drop off samples of the candles that he requested. With school fundraisers you are relying on a bunch of kids to hawk your stuff and bring the money back. I think it's a much better idea to sell to adults with cash in hand.I also think the man is a genius for having the idea to put candles in his shop, and for realizing that women love candles.This lady "dumping" you sounds like the best thing that could have ever happened to you. You don't need someone who's not your business partner telling you how to run your business.I would have no qualms about selling $200 at a time to the dirty store vs. $10 a week to a soccer mom. My business is selling adult products and lingerie, which happens to be how i found this website and started making B&B and now soaps and eventually candles. Women are best buyers and believe it or not alot of older women buy from me, I do party plan and they usually buy massage oils or shower gel etc. I make bath bombs (and will try soaps) out of male shaped moulds (trying not to offend here...lol) and will be getting moulds from my supplier to make women moulds aswell. Trust me when I say you will do a lot better with him if he has a good business and good repore(sp?) with his customers then all of her referalls put together. If he can sell well he will sell well for you. I'm sorry you had a bad day with this lady hun i really am but honestly i know from experience what people want and they want candles. When they plan that romantic or naughty night in they'll be buying toys for that reason but what usually comes before that romantic or naughty night???? A nice romantic bath usually with candles to set the mood then in the bedroom what does everyone want??? candles again to set the mood (or she wants the light off he wants it on and candles are their compromise ). Good luck with it all hun. I wish you every success and if "dirty man" knows his business and how to sell it then you're in for a long and prosperous business with him. I was kinda surprised that a parent would make that move since I didn't know her on a personal level, but then I just thought, what the heck, she doesn't think I'm some uptight ass. It just happens that people sometimes don't get along because of different values and ideas of how things should be. The best anyone can do is try to keep their customers as separate as they can, and try not to step on toes. I am really sorry that happened to you. You may be surprised, however. Your customer, realizing that her personal affairs got a bit too involved, may come back to you. So don't give up on that. At the very least, you lost business and gained more, which should help you break even. And who knows, maybe this customer will be even better for you. (At least you know there is nothing that can offend them, lol )Also to Late Night, you can choose not to sell things to someone without breaking the law. If you have a storefront open for business, you must sell to anyone who walks in the door. However, if you sell wholesale or have a private business, you can refuse anyone you want, because they are coming to you. A lot of people think they have their hands tied when it comes to that, but if there is something you don't like about how your product will be used, or how much they are willing to pay, or etc. you can refuse business. Personally, I wouldn't refuse business to anyone who wanted to fairly buy my products. Business is business, and personal is personal. I wouldn't sell dirty books, but I have no issues with selling candles to someone who sells dirty books.
