Scent Cellar
Too expensive for me too and that doesn't include the shipping. I get my lye for around $1 a lb when I buy 50 lbs which might sound like alot but I split it with 2 other soapmakers in my area. I love buying at bulk prices. elitenaildesign
Thats still better than getting it at Lowes. I think its $9 or 10 for a 2#. Who has the best price?
sudsnwicks
When red devil was discontinued and we heard some of the supplier sites would be offering it, it was good news. It's too bad their pricing is so high - even more than what I used to pay for red devil.
Lorrie
From what I understand to actually carry lye as a product you have to go throught Hazmat certification. Maybe that is why they are upping the prices to cover that???Dunno, I am still trying to source it locally. Sigh

Alajane
I don't make "real" soap yet, but while checking prices for other things on Alabaster's site, I just noticed their lye price looks pretty good (particularly if you order large quantities):50 lb. Bag $43.75 ($0.88 per lb.)HTH,Jane
ChrisR
http://www.saratogascents.com/sodium_hydroxide_lye.html\$3.75 for 2 lb. plastic container and they will ship up to 20 lbs. max. per box.Cheapest I've found for small quantities!! thecandlespastore
$37.50 for 20 pounds seems expensive to me especially when you can get 30 more pounds for about $10 more. But I guess if you only need 2 # and cant get it locally, then its a good price.
ChrisR
When some sites are charging $6.00 or Lowe's is charging $9.00 for the 2 lb. containers, $3.75 is an excellent price!!
