SoapInTheCity
Does anybody make soap with sunflower oil?I haven't tried it before, but I got some on pretty cheap and was wondering what kind of soap you have made with it? What do you like about it? :undecided
eugenia
Sunflower and safflower add nice moisturizing qualities. I use either at 10% in most batches. Keep in the fridge; it has a short shelf life and will go rancid.
LaurafromSweden
well, i made a really small test batch (8 oz) with sunflower oil, i remember measuring way more sunflower (i didn't have a scale then) than coconut oil, added carrot fresh juice before trace (without water discount), a kind of sour cream that they sell in Sweden (milk, cream, powdered milk, and yogurt cultures) lime peel, and a little bit of sunflower oil again at trace...so i think i put 6 or 7 oz of sunflower, and 1 or 2 oz of coconut.well it lathers a loooot, and like i read in many post, and articles, it didn't turn rancid at all, it been about 2 1/2 months, it's not drying at all.....My lard, olive, and shea turned rancid 1 weeks after i made it..So well, i don't know how it's gonna turn for you...Take care,Laura. RobinInOR
I like it at 10% too. There's a high oleic sunflower version that has a longer shelf life - it's a good substitute for part of your olive oil since it has a higher amount of oleic acid than the regular sunflower. Meridith
I've used it many times in my soaps and really like how nice my lather is with it added. I've read its good in scrubs too and plan on trying it out.
Grannyscandles
I use ALOT of sunflower since it is so much less expensive than olive and with many of the same properties.
lisajo
I absolutely love the feel of sunflower oil in CP soaps. However, it is the only oil to ever give me DOS Keep those percentages low if you try it.
Jcandleattic
I've used sunflower as high as 25% before and have never had a problem. I love it. I use it in most of my recipes but usually at the 10% mark.

No, vit. e doesn't constitute "high oleic".
