Grannyscandles
Has anyone had occasion to thicken their liquid soap? Mine dissolved beautifully in what I think must have been the perfect amount of boiling distilled water but it is a just a tad thin for my liking. Any ideas for thickening it? guppygirl
I just made my first batch of LS last night after reading the liquid soapmaking book about 4 or 5 times in a row. I thought I read that at 33% borax solution will thicken & neutralize... also, maybe try boiling some of the water out? Not sure as I just poured mine in jars for them to sit for a week or 2. Misty
I use croathix pastilles to thicken. You will need to warm it back up to add the croathix. I believe th Herbarie carries this.Misty
Grannyscandles
Guppy girl - Good job on your first batch of LS. Fun isn't it?I was hoping that there was something a bit simpler to thicken it. I have tried the Crothix and wasn't completely satisfied with that. Anyone ever try using Guar Gum? I know it is used in cooking applications. guppygirl
It was definitely an experience LOL! I used the alcohol double boiler method... who ever would have thought I'd need bungee cords for soapmaking?? I still don't know if I did it right - guess I'll find out in a week!I read on another board something about adding salt to thicken. You may want to check on yahoo groups for a liquid soaper group.HTH & let me know what you find out!
Luvcandletarts2
I had also heard about using salt to thicken. Anyone else know of how much to add to what amount of liquid soap?

Grannyscandles
When I get a chance I will check out the yahoo groups on liquid soap making. I didn't use the alcohol method. I could never find what I thought was the right kind of alcohol so I just used the regular cook and dilute method. We have to compare notes. Did you ph test yours yet? I am waiting on PH strips from a nice lady on here.
