How to make scented, long lasting tapers with natural waxes

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm new here and I'm new to the world of candle making as well :)

So, your help would be very much appreciated as I'm getting crazy. I've been testing some scented taper candles with palm wax first and then with soy wax (and added essential oils) - the results however were not much satisfying: the candles burn too fast (3hrs for palm and around 2 hrs for soy pillar) and they drip like crazy. The wick should be fine as it's the smallest I could find by Weco (for up to 25mm). The mould are 2.2 at the base and thinner on the top.

I was wondering, would any of you advise to add some additives to soy to make it harder maybe? or blend it with another natural wax? the scent throw is very important but also that candles can last for decent time :(

Thank you in advance for your help!

Soy is not an ideal wax for soy.  They way it turns to mush before actually burning will always lead to the same end result.

palm may work, but it takes a lot of tweaking with wicks.

I would suggest either a paraffin designed for tapers, or beeswax.

Hi! thank you for the tips! I wanted to use natural waxes so I might try beeswax - I've read it's not the best for scented candles because it doesn't keep it well though.

I might look to mix it with something maybe?

Thank you again :)

Beeswax keeps scent just fine.  I just found a beeswax pillar candle in my hub’s truck.  It has been there for at least 2 years, and was at least a year old when it went in that little cubby. It smells as good as they day it was made 🤗
