Does anyone know what is in the UV additive?

One of my friends is Scentsy consultant and asked to try one of our petals.... After I gave it to her she said, "this isn't going to evaporate into my walls, is it?" It has to be in their training materials somewhere because I get asked that often. Like I said, I tried to get it into my walls.... no luck. Not losing ANY volume in the wax after scenting for a long time.

Found part of it. I swear their FAQ used to say soy evaporated into the air, walls, etc... here the CEO alludes to the wax going INTO the air. What Kind of Wax Does Scentsy Use and Why? Exerepts taken from Official Scentsy Statement by CEO Orville Thompson originally dated 2/10/2006 "The issue of the type of wax we use is a non-issue, with regard to the chemicals released while burning, because we only warm the scent out of the wax–the wax remains in the warmer. I would rather have a petroleum wax in a warmer than a soy wax dispersed into the air of my home. With Scentsy we practice “safer scents” – we abstain from wicks!"

Scentsy also markets on their site that soy wax warms into the walls of your home, and that is the reason they don't use soy. I've warmed my tarts for DAYS in hopes to see the wax evaporate to support their claims. No luck. Anyone else aggree?

Has anyone tested the life of a soy candle? Scented? Unscented? Burned? Unopened? Without fragrance added, do you think it would sustain for years?

Has anyone come across this? I cannot seem to replicate this much sought after scent... Haven't found it anywhere? Suggestions?

Thanks jackbenimble! It was quite the production to have them made in my logo, but definitely a LOT of lessons learned. And I'm not exaggerating with a month. Not that it is CONSTANTLY on, but I'd say every other day. I wouldn't have believed it either until I went into her bathroom and smelled the scent and said, "Is that the SAME ONE?"

Hi Debbie. Great info... I actually purchased a Scentsy [urgh] warmer to test my tarts. Anyway, I have had a LOT of conversions... customers that have Scentsy warmers but use my tarts. Sounds like the consensus is the same. Our soy tarts (I use a little beeswax) last long, smells better, and are generally a better product. From what I've heard Scentsy is REALLY strong for a short period of time, and then fades out. My mom has used ONE of my tart petals (below. equivalent to 2 Scentsy cubes) in her plug in warmer for a month and it is still REALLY strong.

So jealous! It's perfect!

I recently tested a new lip balm base that I love. I'm thinking of offering them as part of my line, however, want to touch base with your experts on requirements. How long do you test? What are safety requirements? I see mention of mold in body lotions, is this something to be concerned with in Lip Balming? And finally, other than preparing all materials, tools with alcohol wipe down, any other important environment considerations?

You talk about baking them in cookie cutters... I'm assuming this is after you add the FO. Does anyone have any concern with putting FO in your oven (is this the same one you use to bake food?)

I have a few tarts that I broke pieces off of (from a silicone mold). Has anyone ever remelted the wax to remold it? Does it lose any of it's FO quality? THANKS

Has anyone found tart warmers or burners that are made in the USA? I'd like to offer them on my site, however they must be made in the USA. I have not found ANY. Suggestions?

I am using GB 464 which I love, however the data sheet says it is 90% soy with 2% soy additive. Does this mean it should not be marketed as an all natural soy wax candle?

So I just pours 32 oz of soy with EO. I used 3oz of EO -- I just read it should be .5oz EO per lb of wax. Will this pose a fire risk?

I recently starting making candles -- in glass containers. I have experimented with both soy and paraffin. My question is: what goes into testing the safety of the candles? What are the things to look for? What are important things to consider to ensure you have a safe candle in the making?
