  1. The wax is a 6006 blend and the wick is a CD12. The tops of the jars were not hot at all. I'm afraid to go up a wick size because sometimes the flame gets very high in just 3 hours and still the mp doesn't completely reach the sides of the jar. I don't have any CDN's right now. I do have premiers. I will try one candle with a premier wick and I will try one with a CD14 and see what happens.

  2. There was no soot - The throw is faint. I wasn't happy with the scent throw. The candles burned down from the top. The MP is actually about 1/4 inch - you can see it slightly if you look at the purple candle. The sides melted down on the one side that the flame leaned toward, but the other side melted down as the heat rose. - I am happy with the flame height.  The mushroom on this candle is small - I couldn't get a light enough picture on the purple candle, The mushroom is a fat little monster.

  3. Does anyone have any suggestions - this candle has 6% FO - Peaks Botanical Orchard and Nectar, and no additives. Still I have the mushrooming going on. I am using a CD wick - and the throw is very light. (unsatisfactory throw in my eyes.) But what are your thoughts concerning the mushrooming?  The wax is a soy blend. I have been test burning in 4 hour increments. TIA!

  4. With the CD wick, does a mushroom usually appear as the 12 oz Status jar get closer to the bottom because of the flowing air current? The sides of the jar is clean, the melt pool is about 1/4 inch. The jar is pretty warm, but not scorching hot. I was pretty satisfied with the burn during the first half session of the burn. The Flame is not that high after burning 4 hours. Its is just that the mushroom is aggravating me.

  5. The issue I have with the CD wicks is that the flame "Grows". I am testing 4786 wax. 5% FO load. 16 oz. Mayo Jar. About 3 inches in Diameter. The initial burn was ok-- nice still and steady flame, and it burned out to the sides in 3 hours.  Before the next burn,  I trim the wick down using a wick trimmer and try to angle it to get the shortest trim possible. But when I light the candle, the flame grows very high and flickers like crazy.  So I extinguish the flame, and use a nail clipper to trim a wee bit shorter and relight. Then I get a very small flame. - I am at a loss. I am using a CD 14. Any suggestions?

  6. Hello- I was wondering, does adding soy to paraffin help to "tame the flame"? In other words, have you found that it thins out the wax or does it add more viscosity? I am using 4786 wax with peaks prestige jars. I am testing Zinc wicks, Peaks C Series wicks, lx wicks and CD wicks. I also had my eye on the Salsa jars. Maybe the prestige jars is the reason for the wicking headache.

  7. -Ok- So I am mixed up in thoughts. Using the 12 oz Prestige Jar with the 60 z wick, I never got a 3 Inch MP from edge to edge after six 3hour burns. But I did notice that the Inner Melt Pool was about 1/2 inch deep. I was looking at least by the 3rd burn to get a MP fully across from edge to edge. Then at least by the 4th burn a nice clean MP from edge to edge with at least a 1/4 to 1/2 inch with no hang up. I stuck a CD 14 in and there was a difference in the HT (even the family had commented)- but still in 3 hours, there was maybe a 1/4 inch amount of hang up on the sides. Using the 60z resulted in no wax on left on the sides of the jar as it burned down, but there was just a melted pool of wax that you cannot see unless you stand over top of the candle and look in it. Is this what I should be looking for? Or should I be able to from a side view be able to see the melt pool of at least 1/2 inch deep?

  8. Hello to you all. I am burning Peaks pear spice in a 12 oz prestige jar, using a 60zinc wick. I used 1 oz of FO pp and used 4786 wax. This is the third burn, and the MP is just about reaching the edges of the jar. The jar is not real hot or nothing, but the issue I am a bit confused about is -- why is the HT so light when burning, but when I blow it out, is smells so much stronger? The cold throw is on point also. I am trying to stick out the testing with zincs and peaks cotton C series wick for now. But should I use a different type of wick?

  9. Honestly, I don't know. I don't use CD or HTP wicks in any of my applications. Most of my container waxes I use zinc wicks, and occasionally LX. But yes, my suggestion would be to try different wicks/wick sizes to see if that helps. I would think the only way you would get a fuel smell is if you are burning too hot, meaning your wick is too large for the size container, but not knowing anything about your wicks (because I've never used them), I can't attest to that.

It's weird you are getting different MPs from different suppliers. I assume they are getting it straight from IGI without manipulation, especially since most suppliers will ship the cases directly in the boxes they get from IGI. I would check the IGI site directly and go with that MP regardless of supplier.

I mentioned this because I recently ordered 4630 from peaks. The MP on this 4630 wax is a lot lower than the MP for the Cajun 4630, which is listed as 137. I also noticed on the actual igi sight for 4630, they have the FO usage amount at 8 - 10%, but some suppliers recommend a 6% usage. But 4786 seems to be pretty consistent per suppliers that I have noted.

  10. I've never noticed that with any of the IGI waxes I've used, unless I got the wicking and/or scent ratios wrong. Once the wicking and ratios were corrected, so were all the associated problems that went with it.

That's one reason why testing is so important.

Of course, this is just my experience with the waxes I've been using for many years.

So from your experiences would you suggest - a different wick type for citrusy FO's in 4630 wax? I have tested also CD's in this wax, and got a serious fuel smell with the fruit slices FO. I have HTP wicks - I havent tested them yet, but they look exactly like the CD wicks. Do you know if they burn the same? I know I have to pay attention to the MPs from Differnt suppliers also, as they all do not have the same MP for their 4630 waxes.

  11. Hello - I was wondering - as I am about to pour some tester, using a 6% load of Peaks Key Lime, Mandarin Plum, Sage and Lemon Grass, Lemon Pound Cake, and Orange Chiffon Cake. I will be using either their 4630 or their 4786 wax, their prestige jars, and their C series wicks. Has anyone gotten a fuel smell from any of these scents or have you had success using a different type of wick or jar with these scents? I have been recently testing (at 4 hour intervals) 4630 with LX and CD wicks and the Black Jars (no draft), Something Burning smells, the trimmed wicks / highflames with the MP not even reaching the sides of the jar by the third burn, are beginning to tap my nerves. All this is going on at 1 oz. per LB. I am looking into future testing with the 8 oz apothecary jars or tumblers type jars. If anyone have any suggestions I will be greatful. Thanks

  12. Hello-- My question is, if using 6% FO and you notice smoking even though the flame is not in a draft and the flame is not high, is there something to add to the wax, such as maybe a small amount of stearic or beeswax, should I just avoid using that FO altogether or try a different type of wick? Also, would beeswax effect the throw?

    Thanks

  13. Hello, I was wondering if anyone has used Peaks Coconut Lime in tarts? I want to test it tonight in 4794. I recently tested it at 6% in a 4630 / 4625 50/ 50 blend. It threw only about 3 hours.I added it to the wax at 185. Should I have added it at a lowe temp since it is citrus?

  14. Hello, I recently purchased a warmer at Walmart. 25 Wattage bulb type. So it luminates all nice and pretty from the light, but when I put a melt inside, I smell more of a light bulb smell than I do scent. So I switched warmers. I took the (square) bowl off of the light bulb warmer and put it on my plate warmer(the bowl for this one fell and broke a bit ago) and boy did it fill the room. I just went to the store and purchased a 40Watt - "Ceiling fan" bulb. -- My question is do you know what may have been going on? My only thought is the 25 watt wasnt getting hot enough to "heat up" the scent. But my issue is, do you think I should purchase a scensy warmer? I understand they use 25 and 15 wattage bulbs in their warmers? The melts are throwing pretty nice - especially during these first 2 hours but in plate warmers so far. Do you all have any suggestions? The scents I am melting are Tropical Paradise (Candle Wic) and Coconut Lime (Peaks)
