  1. I used the first recipe today to make my first batch EVER. I was so frigging nervous about the lye when I was trying to scoop some out my hand was shaking so bad it was throwing lye everywhere. :laugh2::laugh2: Even with lye flying about I didn't go blind or burn myself so don't stress. Yeah you have to be careful but just don't drink it or use the solution as eye drops and you'll be fine. :D

I made my 1st batch last night....I too was holding back because of the lye....shoot it was nothing...lol...now I think I am in trouble because I went today and bought more supplies to make another batch...dam soap bug...LMAO

  2. You know, I think this shipping deal with scents has affected his shipping.

I ordered scents last Monday and they were shipped the same day....I normally would of had them by Thursday...but it took until Saturday. I know it's not his fault but this really does suck!...but yeah I know better to be safe then sorry...

  3. From where? Craftlobby or bulkfoods? Bulk ships free to 48 states:) I last ordered from bulk a few months ago and no handling charge, but then again I get a few things at a time. maybe citric acid would be a good co op, and baking soda.....

Sorry forgot to put that in...from craftlobby.

I think I am going to wait until tomorrow and check out an amish store not far from me 1st before I order on line. I buy baking soda from there for .49cent per pound...and always looked for citric acid not "sour salt"....I do remember seeing some strange salts in there so I am crossing my fingers that I will find a great deal....they sell everything in bulk..here is a picture...or link to a picture anyways http://www.bylers.com/bulkfood.html

If I find some at a good price....I will post it here and help you guys save money!

  4. Before you press that order button at craftlobby, I wanted to point out that bulkfoods prices for citric and all their products already includes shipping. So you get 5 pounds for $12.23, total, whereas 5 pounds shipped to me from craftlobby is $23.99. I buy my citric, baking soda, coconut powder and salts from bulkfoods. Its the way to go for those kinds of things. And it is the best price you are going to find, cant beat free shipping!

    Yeah...with shipping...10pounds turns out to be $26.19

  5. I'm not sure what sure jell either...but I will look into that also.

I was looking to buy citric acid in bulk and I found this

    http://www.bulkfoods.com/citric_acid.htm

which said its actually "sour salt" which got me thinking....I can not find citric acid in any stores around me....but there are a few amish/farmers markets and thats where I buy all my canning jars...so I think I am going to start searching for the sour salt....if I find it at a good price...I will let you guys know!!!!

  6. Those sound like they would be fine, if in fact they were made with essential oils.....but the fragrances they have listed there do not sound like essential oils to me.......

Yeah...I thought it was a neat idea when I 1st saw them...but then got thinking about parents with kids....they see mom or dad blow out wick and use as lotion and my god what if they tried it with a reg. candle....I guess it's just not something for everybody!

  7. Your candles are GREAT!! What a neat idea!

I wonder...if hubbies or wives of candle makers & B&B makers...will ever have a board of their own where they can complain…and come up with ideas on how to keep the kitchen clean…lol

I grill ALL the time... even if my kitchen isn’t covered with wax…its better for you and I think taste better then baking or broiling…..now if my dining room table wasn’t’ always full of candles…I would be okay!

  8. Hi!

I was wondering if anyone has ever bought citric acid but under a different name (sour salt)...or if it's even the same thing?

I read tonight while searching for a deal that sour salt is citric acid.

I'm thinking...maybe some of the local farmers markets may sell this under that name.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

    EDITED: OPPS! Spelled citric wrong....lol

  9. Well....I can't get them on here...so here is a link to the pic's

    http://www.pixiescandles.com/StrawberryShortcakeSoap.html

I am SO proud of myself! 1st time from step one making soap!!!!

I scented it in strawberry shortcake....and just added the color without stirring to much

    Hi soapmakers!

I wanted to re-introduce myself. My name is Jen and I am a candlemaker. I haven't been able to spend to much time on the board until just last week when my youngest started in school all day..YES!...lol

I am looking for any and all the help I can get!

I have and do make rebatched soaps…aka “hand milled” but have not tried to make my own batch. I now have lye…which I am SCARED TO DEATH of…and wanted to know what is the best and easy recipe to start with? I have found a lot of different ones…but wanted to know what you thought was best to start with.

Thanks for any info you can give me!!

  10. Hey....I think that may have been the site a friend of mine tried to ordered from too not long ago... with no reply....waited for an invoice for days...even emailed with no replies...I tried to checkout the site to see but nothing is coming up. Hope you didnt pay for your orders!!!

I will have to ask her when she gets home and will let you know.

  11. I figured I could ask some of you to help narrow down the results. I am thinking of booting my Yahoo Web Builder. Not only have they changed some of the things and taken some extras I was using away, but I have been having problems with it. One major problem is my guestbook and the "Bots" that keep posting in it with thier websites for viagra and free sex. I had about 75 posts in the last few days alone. They use different IP's everytime so I cannot ban them. ANYWAY;

What I am looking for is something in which I can have a wholesale ordering page in conjunction with a retail page. Maybe like a "login" or something of the like. I also would like the cart to be easy to use, and include a shipping calculator.

    Any ideas anyone? TIA!

Hey....I use yahoo also...I put a stop to all the "porn" and viagra guestbook posting....I approve the posts now....I couldnt believe the stuff I was getting either....they were posting 5 or 6 times a day!

The wholesale thing....if you know how to do PHP in the web builder...I think that offers the login...I don't understand it at all...so I link a wholesale page (free site) to my reg site....right now to start (still working on it)...I have a link on my home page....figured it would let people see it...but I will take that off later and only give the link to certain people.

I haven't noticed any changes...have you updated your recently? I have the small business Web Hosting Standard...and I use yahoo site builder....I am thinking about down grading....only difference for me would be instead of 500 email addressing I would only have 200...which I am only using 2 right now...lol...or changing hosting completely...so if I find something good...I will pass it on to you!

  12. Both times I ordered from Kandie's, I had nothing but problems...first time I ordered, she said it would take 4 days to get and I got them two weeks later and the second time, I never received anything and it was a huge hassle to get a refund. This is actually the only candle supply website I have ever had problems with and its too bad because I like her embeds and would give her a lot of business but not the way she treated me to get a refund for something that I never received.

I had problems too...only ordered once.

I ordered her pretty butterflies to top wedding cake candles....took over 3 weeks to get to me...yet told me the day I ordeded they were being shipped within 2 days...I contacted her after a week for a tracking number...never got it...so I started emailing almost everyday until I called her....said it must have got lost in the mail...would make more and ship them....then one week later still nothing...finally after the third week I got them and then of all things they were shipped in a envelope....needless to say...out of a 1pound order...only about 3 made it in one piece. She did give me a refund though.

I make my own too....most of the fruits...unless I get REALLY behind and I order from Wendy at

    http://www.geltyme.com/index.htm her embeds smell WONDERFUL!
