I did my first cpop soap tpday. Cinnamon oatmeal. Hope it is doing what it should. It looked great when I poured it, then I put it in oven at 170 for 2 hours covered with freezer paper. I've peeked (maybe I shouldn't have opened oven?). I did 2 pringles cans and the soap grew. It overflowed the can. The flat molds look kind of mushy and bubbly on top. Is this how it looks till it cures up? Recipe had crisco, rice bran (subbed this for olive),safflower, lard and castor as main ingredients. Any ideas if I have soap or a mess? At least what is on the oven floor will be put to good use!!

Wow a 10.00 booth fee. That sure doesn't happen in my neck of the woods. Sounds like our usual take for the day is similar (son & I sell together, I never make as much as he does, he does the container end of the biz), but our booth fees are minimum of 40.00 (rarely) and usually more like 100.00 to 150.00 (sometimes for 2 days). The really good shows can cost around 700.00 for 3 days. All the people we have met in the circut seem to make much more than us lowely chandlers. 700-1500.00 for shows we make 400-500.00 for. Figure in gas and all the other expenses and it's not much. My son pays for most everything at this point cause I just started and wanted to see if my stuff is even going to sell. Hope the fall shows are better.

Another question about lining a mold. I got those bread pans, circle, star etc. for long tubes of bread-how would you line the star, or would you spray it with Pam or something??

Are you OK? We haven't heard an update since your first post. I'm picturing you all shriveled up from the sunburn. Please tell us you are all moisturized and hydrated from some of our suggestions.

a substitute for olive oil in CP soap? Would canola oil be suitable or not?

You're very welcome and thank you. Glad someone else could enjoy those nice patterns. I started one -heaven only knows if it will get finished. I have so many irons in the fire the fire almost out!! LOL. But hey, life is short so I like to try lots of different things.

Thank You so much Carol. I plan to try the soap too. Looks yummy. Have you made the wash cloth? I searched all week end & didn't find that one but did find dishcloth botique that has loads of pretty free patterns if anyone is interested.

I'm anxiously awaiting this answer also. Made first soap today. Have been perusing all the soap dyes etc. and have been kind of confused as to the best way to color CP & HP soap. Like I need to spend more money on supplies ya know!! Hubby finally got me moved to the basement last week-got a big room all to myself and he made me a work bench and shelves all along one wall- about 16 feet of work bench. I'm in chandler/soaper heaven!! And we have a kitchen again.

You know this isn't soap but as weird as this sounds plain yogurt smeared on the burn will help. Or as I had to do last time scoop the yogurt off the top of the fruit. LOL. Hubby smelled kinda fruity that night!! Anyway it seems to take the heat out of the sunburn.
Hope you feel better.

If it is a masterpiece! LOL. Yeah, I think I would have to say this is more fun although way back when I would have considered this a "cheater soap". No doubt it will smell better. At least I hope so. Didn't fragrance in the old days so it really had no smell at all. The mango seems fairly weak so I hope it perks up with time.

Took the plunge and made my first CP soap in years! Used to do
the Red Devil, render your own tallow recipe 20 years ago before all the fragrances & good stuff. Been procrastinating thinking it looks hard to do it with everyone talking about FO's making the soap seize up. Beginners luck was with me. Used a very basic coconut, crisco, olive oil base recipe and added S C mango FO and paprika for color, it mixed super. Nice and creamy right in the molds. Now if it only comes out something like a decent soap. Good thing I work tomorrow or I would be itching to cut and try it.

I saw the pretty mango soap and flower washcloth on the Ponte Vedre Soap Site and have emailed twice for the washcloth pattern. I never get a response. Wondering if anyone on here ever got it and might be able to email it to me? Would really appreciate it.

Wow,
Am I glad to be back ( I used to be coogs). I've missed everyone!! Decided to update my name for the spanking new board. While we were down hubby made me a super huge new candle/soap working bench. I'm so excited. We have a kitchen again. Now to get all my stuff moved & organized & get started! Unfortunately I have to go to work tomorrow, bah humbug!!

First CPOP???
in General Soap Making

I unmolded the "soap". Its quite soft, not mushy just very oily and soft. No lather to speak of. The side not touching the mold is kind of bubbly looking. Had a definite "boil over' in the pringles cans. Looks like lava rolling down a volcano. I put the lids back on maybe that had something to do with that?? Thought it would work instead of saran as I had seen someone say their saran had melted. Used freezer paper on the rest. I used a few silicone molds sprayed with a little PAM.I'm bummed, it looked so good before I put it in the oven. I haven't tried to get it out of the pringles cans yet. Do you just try to open the bottom and push it out?? I'm hoping it will improve a little if I cure it a while. Don't suppose the lather will improve though right?? Here is the recipe I used-from MMS:
Oatmeal Cinnamon Soap:
7.8 Castor Oil
12.4 OO(subbed Rice Bran-saw that Robin used it).
12 Safflower
38 Hyd. Soybean(crisco)
9.2 lard
30 H2O
10.08 Lye
8 ground oatmeal
1T cinnamon
I don't have a scale for the.00's I'm usually pretty good at approximating.
Left 1/2 soap as is and added OMH about 1/2 oz to the remainder(from WSP).
I wanted to do coffee soap today-maybe I should skip the CPOP part??
Any advise greatly appreciated.
