I've been trying to get the color right on the embeds for these OU Boomer Sooner soaps and finally got it with NG's Tomato Red and one drop of their Black Oxide. I am so pleased with the way they turned out. Note: I have a friend who works for the NCAA and she suggested NOT selling these as the insignia is licensed. I did purchase the ice cube molds that I used to make the embeds, but I suppose I can't use them in products for sale. I'll be giving them as gifts.

I'm still a very new "newbie" to melt and pour crafting, but I have learned this: The clear soaps should be wrapped in saran wrap immediately or they will sweat. Then I put them in a cello bag when I give them to someone. The opaque doesn't seem to sweat as much so I put them directly into a cello bag. If storing for a while, I wrap in saran just to keep the finish looking nice. Hope this helps.

I did use her tip to soak the loofah in water. It didn't make it any easier to cut and if you have any leftover, it DOES mold/mildew, even in an airtight ziploc bag. Ask me how I know. ; )

Here is a link to a neat project that I have not tried yet, but it looks really easy!

I did my first one not long ago. I cut off a slice and sat it in the bottom of a clean cottage cheese container (trimmed it down to shorten it for easy removal). I then poured the colored and scented (orange) clear soap over it (it runs in and soaks up in the loofah quickly). I just started using it and love it! When I make it again, I want to make the slice a bit thinner, pour some soap and let it set up, then pour another layer of the same soap. This will insure it has a rough side and a smooth side. I love using it on my heels and elbows and wherever I have bumpy skin. I want to do a yellow (lemon) and a lime green one (lime), too, and package them together. Here is a pic... I'm also working on a fun shaped soap for Christmas gifts for my sons that will include a loofah on the bottom for scrubbing. When I get it right, I'll post a pic. P.S. I did spritz the loofah with alcohol before pouring the soap.

Thank you, Suzy and Kitn! I mixed in some pearl white mica powder. It looks so pretty in the clear with lime green colorant and the lime green paper cutouts. Found those at Michael's and they are actually stickers.

They are actually little plastic pieces intended for scrapbooking, that kind of thing. They had an adhesive strip on the back, but I just peeled that off before embedding. Fun!

I'm still a newbie and learning each time I craft, but I was pleased with the results here. I will note that the color on the plastic candy cane embeds did run after I spritzed them with alcohol, but not terribly, and they still look cute. I bought a different type for the next batch. Candy Cane scented with Eucalyptus Mint and Green soaps scented with Apple.

Just wanted to note that I did try the hobby store black oxide in clear melt and pour and it looks really good! Also added a little white mica powder for sparkle an love the way it looks. I'm working on a project using this color and I'll post it when I have it ready.

I've wondered about using the Glad containers, but doesn't the word "Glad" embed in the soap?

I love the fairy molds and the intricate flower blossoms, too! I need to find people to buy so I can justify indulging in the supplies I want! So fun.

Thanks everyone! I've had some other input and I have to agree that using the clear base will do better. I've only tried the black oxide from the hobby store here. It is mixed in a liquid base. I really need to invest in some good colorants and oxides from Nature's Garden or similar. On the charcoal....do you all use the powdered charcoal sold in capsules at the drugstore? That, and activated charcoal from the pet store (which needs to be ground up at home) is all I can seem to find. Thanks for all the tips!

I am trying to make some black embeds. I bought black oxide and used the entire bottle in about 8 oz. of soap and only got a gunmetal gray color. How can I get a true black? Thanks!

Thank you all! EnvyCandle, I loved the simple packaging, too. No, there isn't a loofah soap in that group, although I made my first one a week or so ago. I think I made it a bit too large so will probably slice it more thinly next time. Yes, Stella, it sounds like you are blessed with good friends. Although I do understand that people might feel they would always be obligated to buy something if they bought once, it really would have upped my confidence a bit if someone had bought something. I've got tons of ideas I want to try!

I thought about that. Most of them are orange and have Halloween embeds in them. Hmmmm.....Maybe orange/clove for Christmas??
