  1. As it so happens, I just created a custon USPS shipping calculator. It ties itself within my new shopping cart, however. It does provide real time shipping costs for express, priority and parcel posts along with the estimated time of delivery. The USPS web site has a shipping calculator. All you need to do is send a bot to fill it out given your dimensions and weight and scrape the results page for actual shipping charges. I add +$2 onto the shipping charges for the box(es) and packing material.
  2. Like I said, this will NOT have a template. It can be used on any template/web site and function properly. Like any script or program, there are always bugs. Even with OSCommerce there are bugs that I can find This will be fully tested by a number of people before it's inital release. Free script updates for a year and free technical support. It will go by the standards of www.SpyderScripts.com .
  3. Great looking site I haven't had time to look through it extensively yet but I will tomorrow. I'll let you know what I think then Great job.
  4. I am her dearest love and am programming a shopping cart for her. This is going to use PayPal as a backend for safe and fast processing. It is one of the very few carts that are template-less and can co-exist in virtually any template. It performs live USPS shipping charges and allows the user to choose overnight, priority or parcel shipping. It allows the web site owner to charge a custom handling fee on top of shipping. It has an advanced pricing algorithm which calculates product weight and the number of boxes to be used if total weight is greater than 70 lbs. It accurately tells the web site owner what each box should weigh to save money on USPS. It takes only minutes to install the cart and to add products. It's about 90% complete and when it's done, I'll reask Sara permission to post under the selling forums and will sell the shopping cart to anyone who is interested. It will be complete within three or four days of this posting.
  5. I think it sounds too forced and it doesn't flow smoothly. It's the "throughout" that's hurting it. Let Our Fragrances Flutter Throughout Your Home Perhaps something along the lines of: Fluttering fragrances for your home It's smoother but I think it still needs work. Hope this helps.
  6. SOME digital cameras can outperform or match the picture quality of a film camera. Not many, but some can. SLR cameras don't necessarily mean a better picture.. though I wish I had one with such a zoom I could capture a picture of an alien walking on Mars. Digital cameras still lack in the bright situations. They are getting better but it's hard to take a picture of something very bright with a digital camera. Like the sun and moon and often times a camp fire won't register correct. I have a Nikon Coolpix which is pretty good. It's not SLR though.. those are still a little pricey for me. As for shutter speeds, many Nikons have a scene mode that allows you to speed up or slow down the shutter. It's not very good though. At least with the Coolpix cameras. At least with my experience.
  7. The need of a tripod is generally dependant on the speed of the shutter. Digital cameras typically have slower shutter speeds than film cameras.
  8. There's a typo on http://www.soyshine.com/candlecare.htm . It is under the Soybit "Tart" Tips section. Can you find it? (yes, I am bored so I have to make it a little game).lol.
  9. http://www.sonystyle.com/intershoproot/eCS/Store/en/documents/specifications/DSCS90_manual.pdf This one covers your model.
  10. Take a look at http://media-server.amazon.com/exec/drm/digital/moleproxy.cgi?name=U29ueSBEU0NQNzMgNDFNUCBEaWdpdGFsIENhbWVyYSB3aXRoIDN4IE9wdGljYWwgTWFudWFs&file=TUFOVUFMMDAwMDQ5ODg1LnBkZg== . This is an ebook showing you how to use the camera and explains the different scene modes
  11. If you're not familiar with how to select scene modes, I can try to look that up for you, too. Digital cameras can be trickier than programming a VCR at times!
  12. Oh wow is that an expensive camera! If you still have a return warranty on it, I think it might be best to do that. There are cameras with the same MP but better zoom and scene modes than this camera. "With 6 Scene Modes, parameters can be matched to the shooting conditions. Choose from one of the following: Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Soft Snap, Candle, or Beach. " You don't have too many scene options to choose from. I'd try Twilight Portrait or SoftSnap first. Beach is generally if it's really bright. Candle is probably to focus on a single bright object in a dark scene.
  13. I'll do some research on your camera and will let you know I use a Nikon Coolpix 4100.
  14. With photos, natural light is always better and will always look better than artificial light. Camera flashes generally produce too much light on the photo subject. If your camera is good, you should have separate modes. Indoor/outdoor, dark/light, museum/snow/landscape/portrait/black white, etc. This is assuming a digital camera is used. 35MM are best for light situations but if the camera is good enough, digital cameras can be used to take pictures of pretty much anything.
  15. Two suggestions. 1) Email or E-mail. It's not E-Mail. Generally it's Email and it looks better than a hypen would. 2) Hotmail email addresses are not to be placed on business cards, letterhead, business letters or lables. I learned this in a business course at school. If you need an email address, make a free one somewhere else.
  16. I am not in the candle business as you stated but the idea is universal for anyone who offers products or services. There are people who claim web design is so easy and it's silly to pay someone to do it for you. That does get annoying to some degree but I get over it. It isn't what these people think that bothers me, it's the 98% of the other population who's thoughts and opinions matter. I have a friend who makes candles and bath/body (she's the one who got me to come here) so in a way, I don't very much appreciate people calling candle making "easy". But let's face it. Everything is easy and everything is hard. Everything is easy when you learn the ropes. Even computer programing! I know a lot of people afraid to even try to program but I can honestly say "Yes, it's quite simple.. once you know how". The safety issues are a totally different topic. Maybe there was a fire extinquisher on the floor we didn't see? The only part in themovie that caught my eye was the package arrived to her door OPENED.. and I laughed a little at that I mean no offense to the board but criticisizing is great, but don't attack them.
  17. I took a look at their video and thought it was pretty good for what they needed. It showed us, simply, how to make candles. It's not to teach us how to make them but to SHOW us how it's done. They did a great job with that. I don't are about the money making part of their business. That's neither mine nor your business but it's not right to bash a web site. Period. It's fine if you don't like it or if other people don't, but to make a post mocking someone's work isn't very ethical or nice. On to another topic.. to hate a site and to link to it is as useful as being a Menards store and posting a map out front to the nearest Home Depot. Each link you post to a site, whether good, whether bad, HELPS that site gain rankings in the search engines. If you don't like them, you shouldn't post a direct link to them. Post the URL but make us copy and paste it in. Otherwise they profit off your post whether you're anti-them or not. So I suggest you remove the links or in a way, are you not then as bad as them because you're supporting their web growth? I was never fond of company or web site bashing (like people bashing MS Windows all the time). If you don't like it, that's fine and dandy. No one can please everyone and you should expect that any site or business you find, someone here will LOVE it, some will LIKE it and others will HATE it. For this site, I am indifferent as I only saw the video. But there are probably people here who don't hate the site but are afraid to come forward now because of all the negative attention. This wasn't meant to be a rant, and for that I apologize, but just be nice to everyone whether you like their site or not. If you don't, make your site compete and whoop their's out of the water.
  18. I don't do candles or anything myself, but I do work from home (programming, web design, internet marketing). A few times I had so much work that I needed to outsource it. Here's my rule of thumb: When you get to the point where you can make money by doing nothing but letting someone else do it for you, then it's time to hire out. For example: If someone wants a $450 script from me and I am overworked, I can find someone to outsource it to for $200 or $250. I get paid and the one doing the work gets paid. So if you can make a livable profit AFTER someone is hired, then it's time
  19. You won't find form creation for dummies HTML cannot process forms. HTML is for presentation, it takes a script backbone in order to process the data. You could use Perl/CGI, ASP, PHP (don't, PHP is slow and extremely insecure), CFM, etc. PayPal has a free shopping cart system. The buttons open up in a new window as opposed to having the user moved from your web site. As for the different templates--as much as some sites need to do this, it's never acceptable. Every page across a web site has to have the same overal appearance. If pages have different colors, sizes, etc., the entire site loses it's uniform look. In some cases, the different layouts can cause extra strain on the web visitor because the links keep moving around. In your case, you probably don't have to worry about confusing your visitors as much as you should worry about the aesthetics. I would offer to custom create a Perl/CGI based contact form for you but it would require a little work on your end, too. All links for your contact page would need to be changed to either contact.shtml or contact.cgi . I could supply you a form that asks: Name, Email, Message Or if you wanted to ask for a phone number, I could do that, too. I wouldn't charge you anything for it and I do programming for a living. I tried to post an ad for this but I was declined by the admin, so I need to get a name for myself on CandleTech. So if you want a form, just let me know and we'll work out the details.
  20. After reviewing your site, this is what I've found: 1) Your contact page has e-mail addresses but no contact form. This is very unprofessional. Remove the e-mail addresses and create a contact form. It is easier for them and safer for you. Keep the phone numbers available. 2) There is no meta content on any of the pages. This page is not suitable for search engine placement. If you want people to find your web site through Google, you'll need to add meta tags. 3) Your order form buttons take visitors off your page. You need to find a different shopping cart system. The user should never leave your site in order to order products. 4) Some pages have a different template. I think you are still working on this though. Good job and good luck with your web site.
  21. There are few true image editors out there that can accurately resize images without distortion. Adobe PhotoShop is one of them. They have a 30 day free trial and the software costs $599 I believe. I use it daily. Jasc Paint Shop Pro is also very good. This has a 30 day trial and costs $99 I believe. Do NOT use other photo editors. They resize images by physical size, not by mathematis. They will not resize images properly.
  22. I assumed you were using FP. It's the only editor that still uses the old .htm extension. Either way, it may be better for you to rename all the files to .html manually and keep them with the new extenstion. .html is a more business-like extension than .htm. If you wanted to go above and beyond, .asp is the most business-used extension. It is a little more difficult since it requires programming I noticed something else on your web site. Under the lip balm section. You use "We use the finest oils and butters when making our lip balm." a number of times. You should use it once or not at all. Every company/website claims to use only the best ingredients and visitors typically skip over text like this. Be different. That's all I can look through for now, have some work to do. Good luck.
  23. The web site does look asthetically pleasing but I have two suggestions. The way you edit the pages is far more difficult than it has to be. You have each page as it's own .htm file. This means if you wanted to edit the links on the left side of the page, you would have to do it for every web page across your site. This is assuming you're not using an editor, of course, but even so, it's more difficult than it should be. drop the .htm and rename all of it as .shtml. Then go to Google.com and search "HTML SSI". Read a few tutorials on how to make maintaining a web site easier. Secondly, remove your email address from the bottom of your pages. Email addresses do not belong on web sites. Use a contact form instead. It is more professional and it is easier for the visitor to use. This also cuts down on spam and bandwidth. Web bots will rip your site to shreads if it finds an email address on there.
  24. Smart FTP isn't nearly as smart as it would like you to think. WinFTP is a very secure FTP program. It is very complicated to use and is one of my favorites. WSFTP is a great FTP program. It is the top rated FTP program in the world for personal and business use. Has a 30 day free trial. CuteFTP is a competitor of WSFTP. It's not nearly as user friendly as some of the menus are hard to locate, but it too is a good one. Has a 30 day free trial.
  25. What is the URL in which you are having a problem?
