  1. Does anyone know where I can find the screw on salsa jar lids ? I Like the jar but can't find the lids.
  2. My SIL wants me to fill this ceramic votive container that was bought at wal-mart. I use KY Pure soy with 4% BW, FO Gingerbread 1 1/4oz per lb. Since I can't tell what kind of melt pool I have I can I tell what wick will work? Does the ceramic containers burn any different then the glass containers? I have already tried using HTP-104 and it seemed to burn a little to fast, The inside dia is 2.5". I then tried HTP-83, I had a complete liquefied top in 2 hrs. Any suggestions at all would help. Thanks in advance
  3. Can the color be changed on a label using the texture color section? If so how can co I do that. I'm using the marble effect one. Right now it's coming out light lavender. Thanks for any help at all.
  4. Kaybee, You said you use 3-4% depending on the whether. Could you explain please ? I have been adding 4% BW to pure soy. Some of my tops after burning are still coming out bumpy
  5. The best thing that worked good for me is putting the flakes in the pyrex cup and zapping it in the micro for a few mins. did the best. Thanks for all the help.
  6. I melt my wax in the presto pot, when the temp reaches 185, I then put my pyrex measuring cup in the micro and heat it for 2 min. then put the measuring cup on the scale and pour my wax that has reached 200. then I add my dye flakes right away. Maybe if I add my flakes ( brick red ) in the measuring cup as soon as it comes out of the micro and pour the hot wax on top of them they might do better. I will try all of your suggestion, except for Henryk, I can't use my stove like Henryk does, mine is electric, I don't think that would work, I really appreciate the suggestion Henryk. THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL THE HELP. I'll let you know what one works for me.
  7. Making carrot cake with dye flakes from MC & BCN, trying to get a orangy red cast to MC brown, using BCN brick red. I have tried putting some hot wax in a measuring shot glass with the brick red dye flakes, they just won't melt. I have to use a glove to hold the shot glass it's so hot. Can anyone suggest another color in the dye flakes that I can use in place of the brick red. I have MC dye flakes, spicy orange, orange, red. KY scarlet red, spice red. Appreciate any suggestion, HELP !
  8. I really appreciate all the response from everyone. But All I'm wanting to know is how much dye I'm suppose to be using for 1 lb of wax without using too much. I know the suggested amount is 1/2 gram per lb. I just thought if I could measure out how many dashes it takes to make 1 gram, then I could kind of split it in half by eye judging. then I wouldn't be guesting my self on the amount of dye that I'm suppose to be using. When I first started using dyes I ended up using too much, it clogged my wicks and I wasn't getting any throw from my candles. now I crush my dyes when I get them in, and it's been going alot better for me, but like I said in my pervious post it just seems like some of the color aren't comming out right, like the cranberry color, christmas red and green. I have done what topofmurrayhill suggested and I ended up putting 4 dashes on the scale before it finally read 1 gram. Then that would mean I could use 2 dashes of dye per lb of wax. it seems like alot of dye. I just don't want to be using too much dye and start having problems again. I would rather use the small spoons ( dash, pinch, smidgen ) to measure out my dyes instead of the scale. The other scale that I bought at wal-mart is The one I use for measuring my wax, but the smallest amount that it weighs is 2 grams, 1/8 of an oz then it jumps to 1/4,3/8,1/2, etc. it just seems that there is too much weight difference inbetween each measurement of a 1/8 to 1/4 that the scale doesn't show. I tried weighing the dye flakes again, I measure out 1 dash at a time, then the scale read 1 gram when I put only 2 dashes on it. too much error on this scale, i think I'll be taking it back to Office Max. scottopus The scale I just bought saids on the front of the box .1 oz / 1 g. Increments. So .1 oz is reading one tenth of an oz, is that right, which means it's the same as 1 gram ? I did like you suggested I measured out 25 dashes before the scale read 10 grams, then divided 10 into 25, comes out 2.5 dashes. but that's not accurate, because when I put two dashes on the scale it read's 1 gram. this kinda helps me to understand more about the measuring of the measuring of my dyes. at least I know now I could use a 1 dash and 2 smidgens and not going over the amount of dye that I'm suppose to be using. I'm using the wide mouth mason jar for doing my testing in, I got 2 wholesale account and I wanted to make sure about the amount of dye that I can use. Thanks so much everyone
  9. I bought a electronic postal scale from Office Max, The name on it pelouze, Anyone using this scale ? I need some help in learning how to read it. There wasn't anything in the box telling you how to read it. I try to weigh out dye flakes, I used the metal spoons ( the dash, pinch, smidgen ) before I bought the scale. I was wondering if anyone knows how many dashes it takes to make 1/2 gram ? What I came up with, it takes 2 dashes to make a 1/2 gram, Is that right ? I was using 1 dash per lb, It seems as though it's not enought dye for some colors. Would really appreciate any help at all, Thanks in advance
  10. daniedb, Maybe you need to change the wax your using, I'm in Arkansas, I color my candles, I use KY pure soy with Peak's UV, I found it helps alot with the frosting. I do get some, but it's not alot. I do mess up on some colors, I just try to match the color to another FO. I like a colored candle better than I do a non colored one, but there are people that don't care if a candle is colored or not.
  11. I'm making them with the KY votive/pillar wax. Could anyone tell me what the suggestion retail price that they are selling for ? Any suggestion at all would be appreciated.
  12. RENA, Thanks for responding, But do you happen to know what HTP or CD wicks is the same as your 1200 hemp wick.
  13. I guess you can call it that
  14. There is never a stupid question MooChelle, I use the heavier stock paper to make them, they are the size of a business card and I fold them in half and make the bottom half my label and on the back I put the caution information and staple them to the little bags I put my tarts in.
  15. Anyone using the orange pumpkin (6oz ) from Big Lots ? Did you have any luck in wicking them and what wick did you use in them ?
  16. I use Bag Toppers for my tarts, I was wondering if it's ok if I print the caution information on the back of the bag toppers instead of using the regular caution labels ? Anyone have any other suggestions ?
  17. I retested the orange pumpkin with the hat again using the Eco-10, It worked beautiful. I don't know why it didn't work the first time I tried using the Eco-10, but it works now. Thanks eveyone for all the help.
  18. Gretchen, Am I going to lay the sticks ( skewers, I think is the correct spelling ) on the top of the FPV container and slip the the wick in between the sticks to center the wick ? Thanks for the suggestion.
  19. I tried cd-10, I had no luck, I had 1/8" to 1/4" of wax around the sides, no mp at all. I tried cd-12 still had hang-up, no mp. The HTP-1212 worked, but the flame was dancing alot, had a small mushroom which wasn't too bad. I'm trying the cd-14 to see if it's works, if not, then I'll try two of them and see what it does. Did'nt try the cottons because of them mushrooming alot. I know if it is wicked correctly they don't mushroom that bad. Using Pumpkin Pie 1 1/4oz per lb, 2-smidgens of Orange & 2-smidgens of Brown, 5/8oz BW, Thanks for the suggestion everyone. I'll post and let you know which one works for me.
  20. Henryk, How in the heck are 2x cd-16 going to work, when I used 2x cd-8's and had a complete mp across the top with a 3/8" mp in the first hour of burning ? I have a HTP-1212 in there now and it seems to be burning pretty good for the first hour of burning, at least I don't have a complete liquefied top, the only thing is the flame is dancing alot, ( and there are no draft ) I'm going to let it burn for approx. 3 to 4 hours to see how it does, But I'm thinking on trying a cd-20 or 22. It seems like I have better luck with them.
  21. Has anyone successfully been able to wick these containers ? I have tried 2-HTP-83, 2-CD-8's, 2-ECO-6's, everything I have tried is burning too fast, I get a complete melt pool in the first hr. Any suggestion ?
