Maybe you poured too hot? I ran into this problem once when I tried pouring my Ecosoya 135 at around 130 or 140 degrees. All other times I've poured at around 105 and never had that problem with those.

Soy is a renewable resource, though, and for some people that's an important issue.

No, you really can't assume anything, I was just saying in general.

Also, it depends a bit on who you're planning on eventually marketing to - the more upscale ones are generally either uncolored or lightly colored (browse http://www.candledelirium.com ) whereas if you're going the country/rustic route those people seem to love the really colored ones. It correlates with decorating styles as well (simple neutrals v. bright mason jars).

I follow a few candle companies on facebook and the big trade show (gift show) in Atlanta is going on this weekend. Looks like a bunch of lovely new scents being introduced! Is anybody here attending or showing there, or has in the past? I've never been to one but I imagine they're quite amazing events!

I don't, and most likely never will, use dye. I think candles are just beautiful in that natural creamy white and it goes with every decor. Plus it's just so much easier than adding in yet another variable

I can't resist their sale, and in my cart are Spruce Christmas Tree French Vanilla Red Currant Home for the Holidays Winter Wonderland Purely Peppermint Creme Brulee Hollyberry & Ivy I've been working with CB135 but am having an awful time with gloppy tops from the low pour temps so I'm going to order and play around with some GW464 as well... I've searched this but can't seem to find an answer - I'm buying some Christmas oils from Peak and was hoping to start experimenting with them in 4 oz. tins but is Christmas too far away to start right now? They'd be stored at 70-75 degrees (in the house). Thanks

I placed an order on Monday (the 4th) and my order was shipped yesterday; in the comments section I asked whether any of the FO's I ordered will be discontinued anytime soon but haven't yet received a reply. Maybe she sent a note in the package? I really hope she'll be restocking - was looking forward to trying more of her FO's, especially the Christmas Pear which I ordered but is now sold out!

With the few candles I've made so far I've been using clear glass (status jars), but as my candles (with CB 135) melt they leave a residue on the side of the glass. Does this not stand out so much on frosted jars? Is this an issue for anybody else? I originally wanted to work with frosted glasses but it seemed like so many companies were discontinuing them.

Candle Science is located in Morrisville, NC - may be a bit of a drive for you, but if you wanted fairly large quantities of wax it would probably be cheaper than paying for shipping.

Question for those of you familiar with these soy waxes: I used the CS wicking guide to find a wick to use with my CB 135 but their chart doesn't include an option for GW 415, which I'm planning to experiment with next. Are these waxes similar enough that the same wicks will work for the same sizes of containers? I also blend in some beeswax. My first ones didn't have much of a hot throw so I'm thinking either I needed more FO or needed to wick up (after 5 hours it still hadn't burned out to the glass of the container, which is 3" diameter). Ah, experimenting :rolleyes2 Any other tips as to the comparisons of the 2 waxes? I've done a bit of searching but didn't find much. Thanks

I've only tried CB135 so far (with 4% beeswax) and loved the look of it but was disappointed with the hot throw - I used 1 oz. Beach Linen (from CS), maybe it's just a lighter fragrance or maybe it was underwicked but it didn't seem to throw at all... I've ordered some GB415 and am looking forward to experimenting with that too. I don't think I'll try messing with C3 as we don't have any local suppliers (that I know of) for it. Sorry I don't have any answers or helpful advice, just chiming in...

Sorry, I didn't think to specify - I plan to make soy container candles (starting with CB135 and planning on trying GW415 soon) and am looking in particular for FOs that throw well in those. The only candle I've made so far was with Beach Linen from Candle Science but didn't get much of a hot throw from it...

Hello from a new member! After a bit of research here I just placed an order with Candle Science for Ecosoya CB 135, some beeswax to mix in, jars and wicks, and a small assortment of FOs. Looking forward to experimenting with them! I was wondering if any of you would mind sharing 5 or so of your top helpful tips, little things you've discovered after trial-and-error and wished you knew when you started out. And I'd also appreciate any other helpful advice. Thanks!
