  1. Thank you, So the CDN's are more for natural candle wax. I wonder if this includes soy. I will just have to try them. Thanks for the suggestion.
  2. It was suggested that I try these wicks for the type of soy wax that I am using. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best places to buy these wicks? Thanks:D Also forgot, is there a difference between CD and CDN and which is preferred?
  3. hi guys, I was just wondering since everyone keeps talking about it, what is the stearic supposed to do? Just curious.
  4. __________________ hmm. good to know. maybe I'll have to try those.
  5. I have had the same problem with those 8oz tins, and I also use cb-3 wax with bw. I have tried to single wick with the LX's 22-30 and I can't get it to work. I have had to double wick for now, but would love to be able to make it work with just one. Holly is right, this wax burns very slow. These tins drive me crazy, I wish I could single wick.
  6. they both look great. I really like the second one, but I think that your name needs to be bigger than the scent name. Great job:grin2:
  7. Here are the ones that I tried from Candlesource: Blackberry/vanilla-super strong Vanilla Cruch-OK, couldn't get this one wicked right though Gardenia-nice scent, good throw Pink Sugar-super strong, really liked this one Monkey Farts-strong Baby powder-smells good oob, but light throw, need to up the % Clothesline-fuel smelly Lemongras-gross! stinky smell to me Clove-gross, could be mixed with something Lavendar-really like the smell, need to up the % because it was light Eucalyptus-strong I used 7-8% in my CB-3 BW mixture. I like the blackberry/vanilla the best. HTH
  8. woo that is kinda scary. What wicks were you using?
  9. What about animals. I often wondered if my dogs were being affected because their noses are soo sensitive. I know that birds are extremely sensitive and can die from things like cooking spray and finger nail polish. Just curious, I guess I should ask my vet.
  10. Holly, Ok sounds good. Thanks for making me feel like I am not crazy.
  11. I am not sure about coloring. But I thought I read a post once a while back (tried to find it, but couldnt), and I think that Vicky CO wrote on it. Anyways, it had to do with heating the wax to a Temperature that was high enough so that the FO would bind to the wax molecules better. So, what I got out of it, and please someone correct me if I am wrong-I may be way off base, was that when you heat the wax to a higher T, it changes the structure of the wax, therefore letting the FO bind to it better. The FO should also be added at a higher Temp, like around 170 or so, for the same reasons. Somehow this will give you a better hot throw. So, if you dont heat your wax high enough initially, you could get a weaker throw. But at the same time, it can't be too hot, or you will just burn it off. I hope that makes sense, it did to me at the time. I will keep searching for that thread. Ok, I looked all over and can't find that thread. So maybe don't listen to me, I might be dreaming stuff up here. Maybe Vicky can help.
  12. I have to heat mine to at least 200, because I add BW, and it wont melt at a lower T. I am careful, though, not to let it exceed the 200 mark. Usually by the time I transfer the wax from my presto to the pour pot, it has cooled down to about 175, and then I add my FO. I do not add dye, so can't help ya with the coloring part.
  13. Holly Yes the sides of the jars were all black, but I think that it may be a combo of too big of wicks (2 LX18's) and not trimming them down enough. So I am going to retest again tonight and see if I can fix this. This happened in my 14oz tumblers. I really like these LX wicks, they do tend to curl to one side, but they clean my particular jars well. But I fixed the throw issue, now back to the darn wick issue. Thanks for the replies!!!
  14. Thanks for all the help guys, I will just keep playing. I did try to double wick and that seems to make a difference, but when I get to the end of my jars, there is this nasty black soot that stains the sides. I will try to wick down maybe, and still use 2 wicks. Back to testing.:smiley2:
  15. Just a tidbit from my experimenting...I add BW to my soy and when I was (key word was:grin2: ) coloring my candles I still got frost. I have always added BW, so I don't know if it decreased it, or what. But just thought I would share. I have also heard that BW was supposed to help, but didn't in my case. And you definitely have to wick up if you use it. HTH :smiley2:
  16. HI, Thanks for the replies. I am using an 8oz tin, 14oz tumbler, and then I have a larger 22oz bail jar. I only double wick the bail jar. But I might try to do what Holly said and double wick. I like the looks of the single wick better, but I agree that the throw is more important. I will also try a 9% FO load, and see if that helps. So far, I am using scents from the scented bean, peaks, and candlesource. These are the only ones that I have tried so far. I the bakery scents seem to be way strong, and the "bath" scents lighter. But I would at least like to get them to fill a larger room. Maybe I will give a couple to some friends to try. Maybe I just have candle nose. Anywho, I will keep trying. Thanks for the suggestions!!!!!!!!! angela
  17. I am just curious as to how much scent "throw" a 10oz candle should have. I know that some people prefer them to be very strong, and others are fine with lighter scents. In your opnions, what do you all prefer. I like strong smelling candles, but I can't seem to smell up more than a small bedroom with a single candle. My house has very high ceilings (in my living room) so that may account for it, but what should I resonably expect my 10oz candles to fill. I am at 8% FO right now, and would prefer not to use more than that. I could try to load it more, but I don't want to waste FO if I don't have to. I also have some 22oz jars, but have not tested in them yet, so maybe they would fill-say-a large family room? Should I just by a store candle to compare. I don't know, any input is appreciated. 18. Staples brand labels, but I have an injet printer. But you can get these for laser printers as well. I like them because they are clear (not frosty like the Avery brand)
  19. well....I now use Calsoy Cb3. I can get it from Washington, as I live in Idaho it is not bad for shipping. I really like this wax. But, have you tried EZ soy? It was #2 on my list. You can get it from BCS and its pretty fairly priced. I made some 22oz square containers with it and scented them with Med. Fig from Peaks. I wanted to use up the spare wax that I had, and I must say, it did pretty good. The scent throw was great (with BW)but I had minimal frosting, and the candles burn really well. I was pleased with them, but you should try it if you haven't yet. I just had a hell of a time with the EL, and after 7 months had to give up on it..not only did it frost but it got this really weird cauliflower look to it after a couple of burns. That was when I decided to switch. HTH angela
  20. I also use Calsoy CB-3. I have not had any problems with frosting as others have had. It makes me nervous, though that I will soon. I have tried 7 different waxes, I dont want to switch again.:undecided Plus its really close as I live in the northwest.
  21. I love the colors, it looks great. I also like the S's next to each other. Good job!!!!!!!!!
  22. I am looking for some clear (not the frosty kinds) round labels, preferably 2-3 inches. Does anyone use these, or know of a good place to start looking. I like the square ones from staples, but do not know of anywhere to get round ones. TIA
  23. I started out using this wax. I never really got good results with it. It frosted waaaay too much, and I also had problems with the hot throw. I was using up to 9% FO in it, and still not getting the results I wanted. Even mixing BW didn't seem to help the frosting. I poured it at several different Temps and tried adding the FO at different temps to no success. I also tried the millenium wax, but it wasn't all that much better. I also found that it had a strong smell to it (wax smell, can't describe it, though), and it also came out after it burned even stronger. There is a board that is dedicated to this wax through candlesoylutions.com. You could try getting help there. A lot of people swear by it, but after trying different waxes, I switched. Getting better results now-but there are no distributers of soy(that I know of) in my state so I will have to pay shipping no matter what. Good luck to ya!! I forgot to add that the millenium soy had a shinier appearance to it when cooled, and I remember having to wick up just a tad with this wax. HTH
  24. A couple of weeks ago I saw a sale at Michaels, they had the warmers for 3 for $10. Might want to start looking at their fliers to check when they are on sale again. I bought a bunch of them for xmas. I am sure they will start having them on sale again as xmas time nears. HTH:)
