  1. For the bottom of the structure, put some concrete in the pipes to act as a weight. Also, it does need something like a T at the bottom to stablize the structure.
  2. I agree with you completely about the warm fuzzies - they didn't exist! I used to hate calling them to order because it was always like I was interrupting their precious time. I don't remember the guys name that always answered but he shouldn't have ever been allowed to answer phones and represent the company. It was at least two years ago that I ordered molds from them. BUT, I like the dye diamonds. I no longer use the molds but the dye was just something I have formulated and easy.
  3. Monday I spoke with Andrea James of Seattle Post Intelligencer - she wrote an article on the company in Februray of this year. She has had three phone calls this week from other customers. She drove to the company and there is a note on the door that they are relocating. She also stated that there has been a death in Mike Kovacs' family. As with everything else, this is second hand.
  4. This is exactly why it smacks of money issues to me. I am really afraid they are gone for good. It may be that they are trying to savlage the business by selling it off - or the bank is trying to sell it. There really is no way of knowing right now. Word of mouth is all we seem to be getting.
  5. Thank you for the information, Scented! I sure will be glad to hear something official. Having so many scents and using all one manufacture for dye - of course, Pourette, I have been pretty sick about this.
  6. Thank you! I hope you get some reliable information.
  7. TwinMom, would you feel comfortable calling your supplier to ask if they have any information? I know I would appreciate it.
  8. Can you share with us where you heard this? I would be a lot more comfortable knowing more. The entire thing smacks of cash problems.
  9. But it leaves your hands so soft! heh. I generally use a paper towel to get off as much as possible and then seriously rub it into my hands. I don't do that with scented wax but when loading my melter I do. I also run directly to wash my clothes. It is sticky, sticky! But, I do like it. I am going to continue to test it for a while. I have about 150 lbs to work with so I feel I can get it where I want it - but, I have a 150 lb melter. There is no way you could make me load little bits of that wax!
  10. They are made with different formulas so my educated guess would be NO. The Reddig chips have stearic - the block don't necessarily. The blocks from JE Polish do not. As with everything else, you are going to have to test. Square One? Yeah, I am baaaaack.
  11. Okay, I am pretty sure I finally get it! Well, sort of. The description on the Candlewic site was just so unclear to me for some reason. If I am reading you correctly, the following exhibit a would be the correct usage: This would be incorrect: I thought the last image was correct from trying to read the description and it made NO. SENSE. whatsoever. Do you use this, Top? I currently use a griddle. It works fine but they wear out eventually and frankly, I want a long(er) term solution. I level in the mold and would continue to do so with this.
  12. awickedscent, I don't read these threads often - where did you post about Pourette? I am suddenly obsessivly curious. edit: I see you posted it above but you didn't say where you heard it - thanks for adding your new post.
  13. The amount of wax isn't a problem but I still don't like the blocks because I like a transparent color - I used one diamond of the Pourette dye to up to 5 or 10 lbs wax. Ooooh well! Back too the R/D.
  14. Pringles Cans Oatmeal Cans Dixie Cups (all sizes!) The cover of bulk CDs - like you purchase at an office supply store - take off the lid, drill a hole and wick that bad boy. This is all from someone that had no money for molds years ago and used everything I could get my hands on.
  15. I have been playing with this wax. I hate loading it in the melter but once it is in there all is well. BUT, in December I made several testers and lo and behold, each and every one of them had spots so bad the looked polka dotted! I haven't had time to go back and mess with it again. My guess was cold weather - is this possibly the reason? I poured at the recommended temp. They probably cooled too quickly - it is cold in my workshop. Also, I have issues with there being a small dip beside the wick. Not really a big sink hole that needs a repour but they do require a heat gun.
  16. The problem with that article is that there is no date and it is written by the web designers to promote their own designs. Sadly, it tells us nothing about what is actually happening at Pourette right now. I really wish someone that lived in Seattle would drive over there. I did a google map of the area but I got busy and didn't have time to go any further. I have, however, spent a lot of time searching for candle dyes today. I found one powder vendor and also called the site listed above about samples. I am not thrilled about using dye blocks but I am going to give them a shot. I have GOT to have something that I know I will have access to.
  17. You sit it on top of a cookie sheet or pan to catch the excess wax? And I assume there is a mechanism to level the surface? I really wish there were more instructions on the ordering page. I can tell it is a very simple product but seriously, I cannot visualize how it is used - why it would cost so much. If it has a base that levels with a mechanism, sure, but it if is just a hot surface, not so much! I want a nice visual demo of this in use with the angle. It bothers me to no end that I cannot totally visualize this product.
  18. Velvet Curtain I like the idea of Stage. All on it's own, Stage.
  19. Has anyone used this: http://www.candlewic.com/store/Product.aspx?q=cMold+Accessories,p205 and this http://www.candlewic.com/store/Product.aspx?q=cLevelers,p233 For the life of me I cannot envision exactly how it works.
  20. I don't want to order even 50 lbs of dye chips only to run out and have to retest. Where am I going to purchase chips? Everyone sells the Pourette chips. The site listed above is a great reference for the blocks but I will, again, have to start the testing process allll over. I want to scream. It won't do any good.
  21. I have been testing dye chips for THREE DAYS. Seriously, they cannot be out of business - or they have to have someone pick up their forumlas. I like the chips. I like using them. <insert cursing and stomping here>
  22. There used to be a great ball mold offered by Peak and CandleScience. I would love to find a good source for those - I need a large volume so I would like to find the manufacture but I have never had any luck googling. The molds in this thread are similar but these are round on the top and the seam is almost nonexistant.
  23. Last year I had someone approach me to partner my business. She had a lot of capital so I considered it. We even started the process. We hit a glitch and I was so happy. I was starting to regret saying yes, let's investigate and wasn't sure how to tell her when we hit the glitch. The thing I realized during this time is that a parnership is much like a marriage. I wouldn't enter into a marriage lightly. I simply cannot do it. I certainly wouldn't do it with a friend. My oldest friend opened a shop with three other friends a year ago and it took all of 30 days for it to go sour. They weren't close friends and now they are not friends at all. Consider things very, very carefully. I am not saying don't do it - what I am saying is realize exactly what type of relationship a partnership is before jumping. Go with your gut and if you do this use contracts, lawyers and create an exit plan from the START. Nothing ruins a friendship like a partnership gone bad.
  24. I got a quote for those last year and they were very inexpensive. Great jar. Reikes had the best price but I think their min. was high.
  25. It has been quite a while since I tested this fragrance but I do recall not liking it at all. I wanted to like it but didn't. I expected something different from the scent.
