  1. Thank you for the reply. I knew what botanicals are I was just wondering if anyone knew what the specific botanical additives were in the wax. I haven't seen a reason given for the addition of botanicals so I was trying to find info. on how they enhance wax. That is why I thought it would be helpful to find what specific ones were used. Is cottonseed and palm used in soy strickly to improve the frosting issues?

  2. I am sure others will chime in with more suggestions. I have made tarts with EZ but I had to pop them into the freezer for a bit to get them out of the tart mold. They were very soft. I would imagine you could use some type of additive to firm them up a bit. The main problem I had with the tarts was that they looked ok at first but soon developed major frosting. I took some out that had been stored for several months and some that were at least 1 year. Boy are they ugly!

  3. Actually the only thing I use EZ for now are my tealights. I use the TL 25 and sometimes the TL 28 wicks from Candle Science. The TL 28 burns a bit hot but sometimes I need it hot to melt some tarts that were made with a very high melt point temp. wax

Scroll down to "TL Series" for a discription.

  4. If it is the regular EL you could order the modifier additive and mix it with the wax. It's been a while since I used the EL but I believe you add between

3%-5%(4% usually works). The Mil. EL is simply the regular wax with the modifier already blended in. The modifier is what makes the wax smooth and lessen the frosting. You can contact Bruce from the main EL site and explain your problem. He is great about answering questions. Here is a link to the modifer http://www.enchanted-lites.com/2h.htm

    Good Luck!

  5. I tested this wax and loved it. A friend of mine also purchased the Joy and we were exchanging e-mails to compare results. Two totally different results!I contacted NG customer service and asked if I purchased this wax again would I get wax from the same batch as my first order. I was told no! That would explain why my friend and I had completly different results. It's ashame because the first wax I ordered was really a good product. I know that the addition of any additive can sometimes effect the size wick used. I am not sure if adding Crisco would effect my wicks. I know that adding Crisco when I made paraffin candles increased the soot(IMO). I can't afford the time or money involved in re-testing and possibly re-wicking only to have to do the same thing all over again when they get another batch. I wouldn't be able to provide my customers with products in a reasonable time frame. They would just purchase elsewhere.

I have ordered from other companies that test the next batch of wax LONG before they sell out of the current batch being sold. That way they can work with their supplier and correct problems long before it causes a problem for their customers. That didn't seem to be the case here.

On a side note...I was also very disappointed with the customer service department at NG. The questions I asked were not completely answered and I got the impression from the answers I received that the people I spoke to have very limited experience in candle making. Maybe they are just new to the customer service dept. but I can't waste any more time with the holidays approaching.

  6. I am looking for cylinder containers clear or white, that will hold 16oz or 18oz of wax. I located the following but they are a bit too expensive for me.

I have seen cylinder containers like these on a supplier site but they were listed as being used for floater candles. I am not sure if the glass is suitable for direct wax pour. Haven't received a reply from the supplier yet. Does anyone know of a source for glass cylinder containers?

  7. I have seen the list of possible insurance carriers that is posted on another site. There are no listings for the state of Lousiana. I have called several local agents over the last few months and never received a return call. I see that there are other members here also from Louisiana so I am hoping someone might have some information that they are willing to share. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  8. I wish you good luck with this wax Henry. I had the same problems you mention here plus a major issue with wet spots. Washing and heating the containers, pouring at different temps....nothing improved. My main issue with this wax was that I never could get a decent scent throw. Slight throw after curing for a month. Good luck, if anyone will have success with it I am sure it will be you:) !

  9. Wow! I would have never guess that was soap. You are one talented lady!!! I can't believe you didn't sell any? If you don't mind me asking...how did you make the frosting on the chocolate soap? Did you remove it from the pan and color the soap a lighter brown and then pour over the "cake?"

You live in Maui? That must be wonderful! In addition to soap envy I envy what must be your beautiful paradise environment.

  10. I don't have a photo of my soaps but the one on the following link looks alot like what happened to mine. I didn't even get to add the FO.

I believe the lye/water was 98 and the oils were 105. The recipe only uses 10 % of the Palm oil and 25% RBO. The RBO was a brand new bottle but thanks Robin for telling about stiring it. I didn't know that! I was reading some post on another board from others that also have the same problem when using RBO but there were more from those that use it with no problems.

A completely different question here. I see that some are using RBO as a sub for Olive Oil since OO prices have increased. Does RBO have the same feel in the finished product as OO? I normally try to use a little OO and Castor in just about every batch.

  11. I know many people use a high % of Rice Bran Oil and have no problems at all. I have read comments where others like myself have had problems with it. I have had ricing with every single batch that I have made using Rice Bran Oil. The soap accelerates even before I have a chance to add the FO! I usually end up spooning it out of the pot. I know it is the RBO because when I leave it out of the same recipe the batch turns out fine. Which makes me wonder why some of us have problems with it and others don't. Do you think it is possible that maybe it is the combination of RBO with other ingredients that may cause the problem? Maybe there is something that I am using in my batch in combination with the RBO that others who are not having problems with it don't have in their recipe?
