I've been away from candlemaking for a while, and finally the urge became too strong and I had to get back to it. But boy, was I surprised to see how the prices of wax and FO's have risen!

What did I expect, huh? Everything else has gone up......

I hear ya! Most of the candles that I make for myself are FV&A.....

I have a client that loves it, but I hate having to order only one thing from Peaks. I was hoping I could find a very similar fragrance from another company that was closer to me in NC.

Anyone know of a company that makes a variation of Peak's French Vanilla & Amber?

However, I can't stand UA lol. It doesn't matter if I use one bead or 10 or 1/4 tsp etc. ... it causes terrible fingernailing on my candles. Some find it cool and I just don't want it.

Have to agree with Scented on this one...... UA makes for some FUGLY candles!!!!!!

To make very white candles, I don't use any coloring, however, I do add vybar to give the candles a creamy appearance.

You can buy a white color block, which I have used before without any wick problems, but I didn't see any difference in appearance using that as opposed to just adding some vybar. Both produced the same result.......

It's possible, and I do.......

I make Citronella pillars using NG's Citronella FO at 6%. Pretty good fragrance, and it seems to help keep the bugs away.

All I can say is "Oh, puh-leeze" This paraffin vs soy thing is so old, and overblown........

Stearic acid, or stearin, is a fatty acid derived from animal and vegetable fats, and is also used in soap making and cosmetics - I'm not sure it would pit metal?!?!?!?

You know - this candle burning thing can get a little complicated.......

JMHO - This is how I look at it: I have tested my candles until I am blue in the face, and there will still be some variable that I, or anyone else, has not thought up at this point. Ambient temperature, humidity, whether or not there is a draft in the room etc etc etc..... People that buy your candles can come up with the most amazing ways to burn them, and there is no way on God's green earth that you can account for all those things. Do your best, make sure your product is safe, but unfortunately, you can't account for all the variables that may present themselves when your customer makes use of your product. Temperature, or otherwise......

I use flat and square braid wicks in my pillars, depending on the size of the pillar.
