  1. Thanks guys! I guess I'll have to invest in one of those heat guns. This is the 3rd type of soy wax that I've tried. And it's the first one that didn't frost on top. Happy Turkey day to you!!
  2. I poured four 7oz straight sided lug jars with GB464 (from CS) and used their suggestion of a ECO 4 wick. Two of the jars came out looking great. No wet spots, smooth tops and great color. The other two, I got cracking around the wick. Melted wax to 175 and added FO and color. Poured at 145. I poured all 4 jars within minutes of each other and I'm a little curious as to why 2 of them cracked around the wick and the other two didn't.
  3. I was impressed with Peaks fragrances as well. I can tell you the Wild Mountain Honey, the Cranberry Apple Marmalade and the Wild Berry Musk are probably my favorites out of the batch I have ordered from them. I've tried them in wickless candles and they are amazing! From what I've compared with some of the other scents I've purchased elsewhere, Peaks scents just ROCK! Love them.
  4. Being that I also make diaper and towel cakes, favors, and gift baskets, I wanted something that would cover a lot of different items. So I kept it simple and went with Homespun Creations by Jennifer.
  5. Welcome to the board, Amy! Like you, I jumped in head first and thought too what a simple process it was to make candles, soon to find out there is a lot more that goes into the process. I've been making for about a month and I'm running out of room for all my experiments. hahaha I love getting supplies! It's like Christmas!
  6. I've had the same problem with my tops too. Either wavy/bumpy or cracked or have pin holes on the top. I'm still experimenting with temps.
  7. Thanks! I thought so, but it's always good to be sure.
  8. I'm wanting to make wickless candles in glass jars. Nothing bigger than a 12oz straight jar.
  9. Dumb question .. maybe not .. but container wax or tart wax? I'm assuming container wax because it's in a container. Tried google but all that came up for me was Scentsy! Pages and pages .. not what I was looking for. TIA
  10. I've been experimenting with a soyblend container wax and HTP wicks from ME Supply, when I blow the flame out, the wick smokes really bad and gives off this very bad odor. Is this normal for a HTP wick? If so I'm changing wicks. I've had issues with frosting with the soy blend I'm using so I bought some ECO 464 from CS. Any suggestions on a wick for 8oz jelly jars using ECO 464 blend from CS? I took their wick guide suggestion and ordered a sample of their ECO 4 wick. TIA
  11. Some people use them as fire starters in their fireplace.
  12. I used a hard plastic cup (holds about 6oz) for my small pours like for tarts and votives. I buy the 6 pack of paper towels every week when I grocery shop. I also stock up on dish liquid, it cuts the grease right out of the plastic cup I use and it takes away the FO I previously used.
  13. Myself being a newbie at making candles can attest to it being costly but the more you experiment the better the product gets. I too would suggest getting a candle kit, as it comes with most everything you need to start out. I would also suggest to shop around for kits and compare what is in each kit to get the better kit. Some offer 2lbs of wax, others contain 5lbs. Some kits contain jars others contain tins. I do agree with the others, that reading these forums and gaining information on wax, wicks, and containers is very good advice. There is so much information to absorb about making candles, tarts, and votives. I'm learning it's a lot of trial and error before a combination works the way it should. Welcome to the board and have fun at experimenting!
  14. Welcome to the board! I use the soy blend from M.E. Supply to make my tarts and votives. I wait about 24 hours before testing the tarts that I make.
  15. I have a small organza bag of aroma beads hanging in my SUV for about a month now and I kneed at it every time I get in the car. It's still giving off a good scent. I didn't scent them, I bought a sample pack to try them out and so far, they've been doing pretty good.
  16. I hope the soy wax I have will be okay to use dipping. Or should I get another kind of wax? Not sure I'll scent mine, just waxed. I was thinking of bagging them up 10 cones per bag and charge $10/per bag.
  17. Thanks for all the tips! I will definitely be looking into getting one of those wick bars.
  18. This is such a great idea! Those are very pretty pine cones! What kind of price do you put on waxed pine cones?
  19. Thanks! I took notice that the wick is bowing in the middle while it's cooling. Though the wick is centered and sticking the wax is making it bow. And I hate to fiddle with it while it's cooling I don't want the wick to become unstuck to the bottom of the jar. LOL I guess I'll have to invest in some of those from Peak. I'll have to get them in a couple different sizes.
  20. So I'm trying 8oz quilted jelly jars with soy blend container wax from M.E. Supply. I also got their HTP 1212 wicks that I'm using. Now I have no problems with the wicks sticking to the bottom of jars (I'm using glue dots), but I'm having issue with keeping the wick straight after I pour the wax in the jar. Is there a trick to this or does it depend on the type of wick? TIA
  21. I've only been making tarts for a short time, but I really like the soy blend from Miami-Erie Supply. I started with a para-soy blend from KY but switched to ME's blend after using it. The tarts I've made with the ME soy blend have really nice throw (cold and hot). It comes in fine granule form, easy to melt, and comes in 10lb bags that aren't breaking my bank. LOL
  22. Yesterday's soap loaf. Winters Garden scent - French Milled soap base from Nature's Garden
  23. I don't cut my slices very big but I can get about 14 slices per loaf. It's a great little box and it didn't cost me anything!
  24. Actually that container I used was graciously donated by my mom. It's an old Velveeta box top! It holds about 2 1/2 pounds of soap.
  25. I ordered 2x from Midwest within the past week (Tuesday (11/2) and Saturday (11/6)) and received both orders in the same shipment in today's mail.
