  1. very good point...if for no other reason, ease of testing seems to be a good one!
  2. It's funny how we say that a scent smells like a certain color...lol.
  3. I have never been sensitive to fragrance before but I do get the occasional migraine (still not sure what the triggers are). So I think I will just play it safe and wear a mask...at least until I have done it for while and can get somewhat used to the strength of the scents.
  4. Ravens - I got the kit from Canwax, the instructions were not bad but I think had I not read so much on here before making them I probably would have had a million questions....they lacked detail and were fairly vague. nmhoneybear - I liked the scent at first but after pouring them the scent nauseated me and gave me a terrible headache. I am hoping it was just that particular FO because I am not normally a scent sensitive person Now that a few days have passed I can tolerate the scent but I still don't like it...lol Thanks all, for the compliments!
  5. Thank you all for the compliments The color is more peachy in the picture than they are. They are more orange than peach, quite a bit brighter than they look on here....none the less, I still don't like the color...lol. I really enjoyed creating them though...it was fun, just have to keep my boys away from them. They got grubby little finger prints all over them before I took the pictures Other than the 'interesting' color I think they turned out pretty good for a first attempt!
  6. I don't like the color but I had to work with what they sent in my kit (pink and canary yellow....lol) They are scented Hot Apple Pie and I used EcoSoy Adv. CT is quite strong. Even though I can't stand the scent now, I can't wait to test them Criticism welcome Thanks for looking!
  7. When I was pouring my 1st candles last night I got a headache which, I assume, was from the Hot Apple Pie FO that I used. I finished up and went to bed. When I got up this morning, I went to go check on my candles....which I was quite happy with looks wise but when I picked it up to smell it I was almost instantly naseous . I can't even stand the CT from them and it just happens to be quite strong. Not sure if it is just that 1 FO in particular or the fact that my kitchen is not ventilated very well. I do not have a fan over my stove and it was -5 outside last night so I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to open the windows while I was pouring But I am afraid I have now ruined Hot Apple Pie for me...literally makes me sick.
  8. So, I took the plunge and poured my first candles tonight. I ordered a soy kit from Canwax. I followed the instructions to a T so we will see, though their instructions could be a tad more detailed (but I have read enough on here that I wasn't totally at a loss when I was unclear on something ) I got 2 FO's with the kit and chose Butterscotch Brulee & Hot Apple Pie. They said that you get co-ordinating colors but I got Pink & Canary Yellow...lol, not what I would figure for the scents but whatever I chose to try the EcoSoy Advanced first (they include 3 diff. types of soy) and used the recommended HTP 93's and the LX 12's for tealights. I poured 2-5oz apothecary jars, 2-4oz travel tins and 2 tealights with the Apple Pie FO. They smell great so far but I think the FO gave me a very bad headache I hope it just takes some getting used to. They did not have the glue dots in the kit so I had a really hard time wicking the jars and tins. They said to place the wicks in after pouring when the wax starts to get cloudy. The wicks kept bending as soon as I put them into the wax, I think I finally got it and they are being held centered with popsicle sticks at the moment. I am excited to test them out How long would you generally wait to do your first test burn after they have set up? Whew....probably a lot more info than needed...sorry
  9. lol...that does sound pretty labor intensive but I love that there seem to be so many ways to improvise But I am getting kind of anxious and guess I am just going to try wicking after the was is poured. Those are the instructions given with the kit that I purchased anyways...it just doesn't seem like the most effective way to do it and I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist (and/or OCD and/or anal retentive...lol) at times:rolleyes2. We will see. Now if only I could get my little ones outta my kitchen! lol
  10. Sharon - I had watched a bunch of tutorial videos online and a few of them showed using glue dots. Another one demonstrated dipping the tabbed wick into to hot wax and secure it to the mold, then pour. I realize I am probably putting much more thought and concern into this than necessary but I would like to do what I can so that my first attempt is not too discouraging
  11. ok...so, now lets say that the person asking the ? does not have the said wick pins which would be the better option? Not sure why I left that out of the OP, sorry
  12. Ok, so this is a probably a dumb question but I have to ask. I have seen 3 different ways to wick a votive and would like to know the best/easier way. 1 - pouring the wax into the mold and then inserting the tabbed wick when wax forms a skin 2- using glue dots and afixing the wick before pouring wax or 3- using wick pins I was going to do my first candles tonight and have since gotten myself confused as to the best way to wick a votive TIA
  13. they are beautiful....would love to smell them
  14. I found an old crockpot that I was thinking I could use for melting my soy wax but it only has a low and high setting....I have no idea what temps they actually are. Do you think I could still use it? TIA!
  15. nevermind....please remove...lol
  16. I love your stuff...so clean & crisp looking. I love the bright colors!
  17. Well, I spoke with the lady tonight and apparently it was her daughter that put the ad up for her because she doesn't have internet. So, from what she explained was that she was going to get in the craft but her husband was unsupportive so she did it a couple of times and stopped. Her stuff has barely been used, some of it not at all. The melter is a Presto pot that she purchased off e-bay. A 50 lb box of Starburst Palm, 10 lb EcoSoy PB and a couple of blocks of Mottled wax. About 15 bottle of liquid dye, a bunch of dye chips and approx 20 bottle of Candlewic FO's. I did ask her if she had an amount in mind and she told me how she spent about $750 on the supplies so she would be happy with $350. So now I am not sure....Not that I want to take advantage of anyone but dont know that I want to dish out that much right now So I may just pick and choose some stuff.
  18. She sent me 2 pictures BUT they really don't let me see much....basically a bunch of bags of wicks...lol This is what she has shown me - She obviously hasn't put everything in the picture.
  19. So, I found a lady who is retiring from her candle making hobby. She is wanting to sell most of her supplies and goodies. I asked her for a detailed list of what she had and this is what she sent : - 3 types of tealight wicks - 6 types of votive wicks - 9 types of pillar wicks - 4 round 3x7" pillar molds and pins - 1 square 4x4 pillar mold - about 500 tealight cups - about 75 votive molds and pins - 10 floating molds - warning labels - flat cello bags - wide variety of scents, dyes, and colours - 2 boxes of wax (1 starburst palm, 1 feather palm + small box of flaked votive wax) - wax melter - temperature gauge - wax pourer Yes, it is pretty vague. In regards to $$$ all she said was 'I am open to offers'. So, based on this list what on earth would someone offer for this???? I have no clue...lol Teresa
