  1. The show season has officially started! Well, for us anyways. Lol! We had our first show this past weekend and it was wonderful! On Sunday it rained but surprisingly we have decent sales even in the rain. Go figure! Unfortunately we were not able to break our goal from last year because of the rain but we would have if it had been good weather on the second day. Here's my booth/tent. The morning sun is in my way but you can still see it. No video this time. So sorry. I'll try and get one this next show in 2 weeks.

  2. Thank you everyone! I actually just came into an electric griddle by accident. Haha! So will try that out.

Btw- finishing up pouring all my candles for the fall/ holiday shows. ... Or at least the initial pouring. I'm sure I'll be pouring more.

So far I've poured 2,096 candles since I started in May.

  3. How does everyone keep they're pour pots warm it you do not have an oven?

Right now I have my home oven to heat my pour pots before I put wax in them but I'm coming to a point by next year that I want to get a space outside of my home to work. I'm sure I won't have the option of an oven.

    Thanks for the advice.

I just received a sample of Flamings "Blue Spruce"......being that I'm a pine person who has tried just about every pine scent out there, this fragrance sure smells out of the bottle so perfect.  Don't know if anyone has tried it yet but I will be doing a big candle in it today.  Will let you know my findings after cure time...Oh yes, putting in 464 wax.

Let me know how this spruce does from you. I cannot get a HT from the CS version and have attempted a few times. Would like love a nice blue spruce.

Have you tried the cotton wicks from RE I bet the 62 cotton will work in those size jars. What I don't like about the CD's they lean to one side the cotton doesn't.

I have not but will put that on the list. That is true. The CDs always burn one side better than the other.

I know I'm late to this discussion, but did you ever figure out your wick?

Also, Community Candle has the cd 4's....

Sort of. I am trying a CD20 on the scent Citron & Mandarin from CS. Despite being a citrus FO it is on the heavy side. I've ran into this issue on citrus FO before.

If I can get this FO wicked I can work with the others in this collection.

I am also trying double wicks with HTP31 & HTP41. We will see how this all goes.

I feel like I'm on the right track now.

Thx for all the advice and checking back in friends!

Just thinking glass might get really hot as the flame gets lower.  Melt pool does seem a bit deep even for 4.5 hours. I hate mushrooms but I've learned to just live with them if they are my only issue.  Did you try the smaller CD in that jar.  I use a 60C or a 62C (not sure on CD) in a straight sided jar that is 3.25" diam.

I am going to burn until it reaches the bottom so I can get a full test. However I definitely have considered going down to a CD18 and test with that size wick.

  8. So here's more pics of the test burn in this container.

    CD20 single wick

    464 wax

    burn time today approx 6hrs

What I'm mostly looking for is your opinion on the wax residue on the sides. If you look back at past pics in this thread you will see more wax residue than I usual like. However now that the candle has burned down I'm seeing that the wax is slowly melting off. What do you guys think? Good or still too much wax residue?

Not knowing all your variables (type of wax and fo) I would double wick it. I had a similar situation and the 20 was adequate but made me uncomfortable. Anything higher than a 20 looked like a beach bonfire in a glass. The mp depth is a tad deep IMHO and overall that set up seems to be working (assuming you have good ht) but since you are at the top wick size, you have little room for adjustments. The double wicking is a pita but I feel secure that the burn is a better result. Spreading the heat across the top makes more sense than trying to distribute it from the center?

Thanks everyone for the opinions. Chuck I actually started out testing these with a double wick (CD6) and it gave me a FMP within an hour on the first burn and the melt pool was so deep during a power burn that I didn't feel comfortable. I have looked around for a smaller size CD wicks but all I've found were CD5's although CD4's would be better I believe.

Is is there anything in another wick series that is comparable to a CD4 in size?

I think at this point you might want to make another tester with a size smaller wick. Test burn the two side by side and see which wick burns the best. But burn them together to the very end so you can see how well they both do with the tricky last half of the candle.

Also, trim both wicks to 1/4" before you light them up.

This is the same jar I was using in the other post I made recently. The pasts testers (this is my 4th at this point) have never given me a FMP and I've tested them all the way.

So I would say I have a good idea how they are burning.

After quite a few frustrating wicking issues with a handful of fragrances with CD series in soy, I tried ECO wicks in just those. Was pleasantly rewarded with decent burns without having to double-wick, or wick up risking big flames. I eliminated ECO early on because they just seemed to burn too hot in my setup.

    I have never found a cd4 either...

Happy Finding: in my Clove scent soy tin the CD 16 struggled with a weak flam and tunneled badly. I didn't want to move to the 18.... The ECO 10 did the job remarkably well. Great throw and burn. Even got a little hot at the end.

Thanks for the info TallTayl! So maybe I will try an ECO wick again. I tried them before as well and ended up going with a double CD wick in my current candle line. I don't know why I never followed through with ECO's. Hoping his will solve my issue.

  12. So I'm still having issues with wicking. Lots of residue on one side of the jar. I went up to a CD18 and have made another tester with a CD20(I'm waiting a week to let it cure before I test.

Is there anyone that sells a CD4 so I could double wick if I need too? CD6 is the smallest I've found in a 6in wick and a double wicked CD6 is too large.
