  1. How about instead of when making your chunks don't cut them into squares cut them in long wide strips the length of your mold. Hmmmmmmm I might just try that right now lol

LOL, I had thought of that too and was gonna post the idea! Good thing I kept reading ;)

  2. It's funny you say that because my wife has been bugging me to do just that. I'm going to give it a shot. I think the straws is a good idea but I want something a little larger in diameter. I still haven't figure out how I'm going to secure them.

Make clear chunks with plain parrafin ???

  3. Thank you all, Im glad you like it! My customer loved it too! I also made her a layered round pillar, 4 1/2 x 5, blue, white and 3rd layer is blue, but I forgot to take a pic of it before she left. The blues were BB Muffin (very popular scent it seems) and the white was Vanilla Passion. She loved both of them!

  4. I dont have much business right now, just friends and family really. Im expecting by the end of July, I will be ready to go out and sell retail. Not gonna do wholesale right now. But if I happen to get any orders right away, I would like to be able to accept cc's if thats the only form of payment that they have on hand. I dont know if there is any contract, I will contact the company and find out.

  5. I've been having alot of merchant companies calling me wanting to set up their cc machine in my home. It sounds good and everything, ya know, no up front fees, low monthly fees, only a .25 cent fee for each transaction...free imprinter for taking out into the field...I just dont know if I should do this right now. Im brand new, still tryin to get my inventory built up and get my catalog and brochures done...shoot, I dont even have a logo yet! Anyway, I do need the imprinter and one company offered me that, even offered to waive the start-up fee of 17.50 if I dont have any transactions by 7-15. Did you guys get your cc machines right away? I want to be able to accept MC/Visa because I feel like if I dont, I will lose some business (ie..."I dont have any cash on me right now!!) and I wont be accepting checks.

This is what this company quoted me to get set up:

Visa/MasterCard Card Rate 2.35% and .25 cents per transaction

    Monthly Gateway fee: 10.00

    Monthly Statement fee: 8.00

    Montly Minimum: $0.00

    Annual Fee: $0.00

Please let me know what you think, whether or not I should go ahead and do this. Thanks!

    Dana

  6. Heehee...thanks for the compliment Mozzie..I just hope my customer feels the same way :) I got alot of bubbles tho...is that just part of the package when you do a rustic? I added vybar and poured at 150 (wax is 1343) but still got 'em.

  7. I just read that wholesaling 101...all i can say is OMFG! It scared the crap out of me...litterally! I think it will be quite awhile, if ever, that I start doing wholesale. Im sure I will just stick with retail. I can walk into these lil stores and sell to the employees, not the company..KWIM?

  8. So where would you guys suggest I start..company wise. Im starting actually with friends and family and hoping they will pass the word around to their friends..etc. But Im wondering where I should start business wise. Should I start with small companies? How do I get ppl to let me put a rack of candles in their store? Im almost ready to go out selling but I dont know where to start :( Please help!

Also...how did you get your "big" accounts? Does anyone have any contracts with companies like Halmark or Walmart or any place like that that gives you large orders on a regular basis? Thanks!

  9. Would it happen to be the wick Im using? If a 22 is too small and a 24 is too big, there is nothing in between for the LX series. Maybe I could try a different type of wick that wont burn so hot? I dont know, just throwing ideas out there.

  10. Im not sure about this either. I just melt a bunch of plain parrifin and pour it. If I have some left over, its no biggie cause its not colored, it may be scented but I can choose my color based on what scent it is. I think maybe if you get the total amount of wax the mold will hold and then weigh your chunks, subtract the total amt of wax you need from the weight of the chunks..maybe that will work. I havnt tried it yet tho.

  11. K, Im sorry guys, I have so many questions tonight. Im doing so much more testing today than I normally do. Here is my thing:

I poured a 1274 today, was going for mottle but didnt work. Anyway, I just wanted it for the tester anyway. I started with an LX22, but it left a huge shell around the melt pool after a 3 hr burn. So I wicked up to an LX 24 and Im getting big time buldging. It is leaving a thin shell, maybe 3/4" thick. I understand that this is not supposed to happen, correct? Ive never had the buldge thing happen before, so Im thinking i should go back to the 22. What do you think? Is the mp supposed to get that close to the edge? I remember things about "hugging" your candle. Is that what you were referring to? Thanks alot for any advice you can gimme!
