  1. Ive tried many soy waxes so far and had alot of fun experimenting with palm wax. Ive also dabbled in so paraffin. Just wondering what everyones favorite wax medium is for bakery scents. For myself, I think I prefer them more in the paraffin.
  2. I have never made pillars or melts or tarts at all and not sure what the consistency of Ecosoya PB wax is. I understand you cant use container wax for pillars or tarts as it may be too soft. But how bout the other way around? Is it possible to use the PB wax as a container wax? And how does the PB wax differ from the Advanced and the cb 135?
  3. Just wondering if anyone on the board here has tried any of the FO's from DPS/Morris Wax in New Lenox IL and if so how did you like them?
  4. I have been reading alot about these wicks lately and would love to try them. Who is your favorite supplier for the premier series of wick? They are cotton with paper fibers through out I believe.
  5. I just ordered Simple Soy Wicks from WSP. Has anyone here tried these wicks and if so how did you like them? I tried doing a search here but couldnt find any posts regarding these wicks. They must not be very popular. However, on the WSP web site, they did get good reviews.
  6. mparadise, Thats great to hear. I can not wait to pour my candles tonight. Now if it would just hurry up already and be 5pm already. I swear, the hours at my job drag on slower than molasses lol. I know you use different jars than me but what kind of wicks do you prefer for this wax? Thanks!
  7. I just got my first delivery of palm wax today and cant wait to try it out. I've been reading all about how to go about wreaking the tops and punching holes. It sounds like fun I wont be able to play around with it till this evening so my question until then is...is the scent throw usually better with palm by itself or if it is mixed with soy? (or does it not matter?) I got csn wicks from cs but also have an array of cdns and paper cores. This will be for a wide mouth 16oz mason jar. Thanks:yay:
  8. Ive tried both of these waxes now and to me they seem very similar. The CT with the 415 seemed a little stronger while the HT seemed about equal. The C-3 seems to look a little better to me, I like the consistency. Between these two waxes, which do you prefer and why? Thanks:yay:
  9. To answer your question Top, my candles ht is mediocre, hers is AWESOME. I have tried a mix of 4627 and soy and the ht was good but I'd like to try to keep mine 100%soy if I can. I do notice I get a headache when burning paraffin. I'm getting another brand of soy wax delivered today so will do some more testing. Ive tried cb135 and c-3. I'll be trying 415 later this afternoon.
  10. I confess, I am totally in love with another persons candle. I love these candles! I am always ordering more and can only hope my candle can compare to these one day. Ive been trying different waxes and my candles are only so- so so far. I wish there was a way I could find out what kind of wax these candles are made from. The lady that makes them says they are 100% soy. I know wicks and quality of FO (and maybe additives) makes a big difference but I wish I knew what kind of wax this was. Just venting a little as my last candle came out pretty bleh.
  11. Soy327, which do you find you like better. The cb 135 or the 415?
  12. Im just wondering, when you all consider the different wax suppliers, how far are you willing to drive for it to be considered within "driving distance"? I was thinking an hour. My husband says within 4 hours. What is acceptable to you?
  13. Thanks for the info Gypsy, pls let me know what you think when you get around to burning them. Cant wait to hear what you have to say :smiley2:.
  14. Has anyone mixed cb 135 with some paraffin? Have you noticed any significant advantages or disadvantages when mixed? Im looking to improve the hot throw mainly. I was thinking of trying a mixture of 75% cb 135 to 25% comfort blend (4627).
  15. Does anyone know of a place that has wide mouth mason jar lids? Im looking for something primitive looking. I use 16oz wide mouth jars. I have ordered from candles and supplies in the past but they are pretty slow with shipping so was hoping to find another supplier. Thanks:yay:
  16. My container is 3 inches across. I got a full melt pool at the 3rd hour mark. I know Ive read that a good rule of thumb is 1inch for every hour, so based on that I think I'm okay. However I remember also reading somewhere that if you get a fmp on the first burn, then you are burning too hot or fast. Should I try wicking down? Other than that, everything else is okay, ht is good, no real shrooming etc.
  17. Continuing on my candle making journey. So far I've tested CB adv. ,CB 135, C-3, and Comfort wax. I'd like to try either 415 or 464 next. For those of you with exp with these two waxes, which gives the better HT? Im not concerned with repours or frosting at this point, just the HT. Thanks guys:yay:
  18. Ok, I have a really dumb question. Ive never burned or melted a tart before. Im thinking of buying a electric tart warmer and buying some tarts. My question is, does the wax some how evaporate or does the wax just stop giving off a hot throw at some point. I mean, how do I know when the tart is finished? Thanks
  19. Ive noticed that the labels I printed out on my kraft paper from onlinelabels gets "scuffed" up easily. Meaning it doesnt take much for the little specs of black ink to come off the label. Ive noticed this doesnt happen with other paper stock, just the kraft paper. Is there something I can spay on the labels to avoid this? I use a laser printer. Im only giving some of my candles to my dad and mil for christmas so the labels dont have to be perfect but it does kinda bug me Thanks
  20. Just thinking out loud here, What do you think would be the difference in adding PKO vs Crisco (which now has Palm oil) if any? Thanks Top
  21. I am pouring Nana's Apple Butter from Just scents tomorrow. I will be using c-3 in a 16oz wide mouth mason jar. I have cdn wicks in 12,14 and 16. Ive noticed that half of the scents Ive tried require the 14 and the other half 16. I havent had any that have done well with the 12 yet. Any advice for Nana's Apple Butter?
  22. Has anyone tried adding palm kernal oil to their candles? I have some left over from soapmaking and was thinking of adding this instead of coconut oil. Do you think palm kernal oil would have some advantages over the coconut oil?
  23. Hi all I know Ive seen candles in the past that have various tin collars, sometimes they are in the shape of a heart or sometimes a star, etc. Does anyone know who sells those? Thanks pixie
