  1. Egyptian Sheets! A really nice clean scent that is powdery, floral, musk and sandalwoody all in one. A best seller for me in candles and room sprays!

I like Cowboy, Twilight Woods, Mahogany Woods, Nordic Spa and many others. I use parasoy, though. So don't have a lot of the issues pure soy folks have.

  2. To me, upscale scents are those that have a bit more complexity to them. The notes all work together perfectly and take the FO up a notch, for a more sophisticated scent profile. Scented is correct, saying something is "upscale" is largely a marketing ploy. The same way companies selling FO don't just have plain Vanilla, it's a Vanilla Voodoo or Vanilla Select or Vanilla Bean. It's a perception of it being "better".

  3. I have 4 pour pots. One for florals. One for fruity. One for spicy. And one for foody. I also have an assortment of cans that I use for smaller amounts of wax for tart testers. Any extra wax (usually a couple ounces) gets poured into a souffle cup for use in the tart warmer later.

  4. What M&P base did you use? I know I tried some M&P from Nature's Garden once and that stuff was crap. It started to get rubbery in the measuring cup before I could even get it all poured. It did make a good, hard finished bar of soap, but it was a nightmare to work with. I tried it because it was cheap, even though I've been using SFIC since 2004 and should have known better!

Interesting thought. If you could have seen the sticker- It looks like it's been on there since the 70s. It's all brittle and yellow. I mean, look at it. Just weird.

I don't know if I'm going to ask them.

But, inquiring minds want to know!

@Faerywren Very Nice! You doing the high temp fluid HP?

I do crock pot HP. It's what works for me, so I will stick with it. Not very adventurous with my soaping, I'm afraid. I very rarely even try new soap recipes! Too keep if from looking "too rustic" I don't water discount and add a little liquid glycerin at the end of the cook to keep the soap thinner and buy me some time to pour and swirl. All my colors are pre mixed, ready to go and I have to work FAST. That's why the swirls in the Twilight soap are not so delicate, the soap started to cool on me and stiffen.

Lol! That was my latest experience with a cherry FO. That's another scent I can't find. The last one I got was Black Cherry Bomb from Natures Garden. I got it because a YouTube soaper whom I love did a video making soap with it and mentioned how great it smelled and how her whole work area smelled of cherries. The description on it is that it's a tart black cherry. Sounded good. Poured it in wax. First time I lit the candle, everyone in my house immediately said it smelled like cough syrup. Ugh.

Yep. Cherry is another one! Every one I smell, I think Sucrets cough drops from my childhood or cheap lollipops!

  8. Caribbean Coconut from WSP is a decent one. I use it as a blender, so can't say how it works solo. Every strawberry, blueberry and raspberry scent I've tried has been a disappointment. Sure, if I wanted to make candles or soap that smelled like kid's cough medicine, I'd be set.

Isn't Lux Linen amazing? It is one of my top sellers, too. Community Candle is only 1 1/2 hours from me, so I can go get my supplies from them. I picked this scent up last time I went.

  10. I have those books, too. The Everything Soapmaking Book by Alicia Grosso had a couple recipes that were lye heavy, so I remember writing the corrections in the margin. I always run book recipes through the SoapCalc, because typos can and do happen. I also like any of Sandy Maine's books. Her pictures are always so pretty.
