My question is, why would someone open a business that they don't care to know about? Doesn't he realize he looks idiotic by not taking an interest and knowing specifics about his stock? This business doesn't sound like it will be around long. Then you can move in with a huge "New owner, new attitude" banner hanging out front.

People can write ANYTHING and if it's shrouded in enough bull, people believe it. Caveat emptor.Companies can contact wax manufacturers to develop and private brand their own proprietary blend of wax. Perhaps this is what they have done. Doesn't mean their product is any better or worse. Some people use additives in preblended formulas... again, doesn't mean their products will be any better or worse. What matters is that the entire system (wax, FO, additives, wicking, container) works together to an acceptable end.
Not true. This is coming from the "mo' is betta" school of thought, frequently seen with the "triple scented" claims. More FO will not necessarily achieve a better throw - it's the quality of the FO and how that FO is utilized by the candle system that matters.
True, because many folks have swilled the koolaid of marketing hype and are just plain idiots about fragrance. For some reason, they believe that they should never smell an unpleasant odor and that EVERYTHING has to smell GOOD 24/7!!! They don't wanna compost anything because it smells "dirty." They don't wanna cook fish cause it smells "fishy." They shower and shampoo the life out of their hair & skin because they don't wanna have any of that awful human odor we've been taught is just socially unacceptable!! God forbid anyone should actually SWEAT!! *faint* Their packaged foods are "designed" by food manufacturers to smell and appear appealing. They never think about what all that "designing" is doing to their bodies! This is part of the "pussification" of modern society!!! We have to have fragrance in EVERYTHING lest we smell anything vaguely natural - detergents, soaps, armpit deodorant, douches, body perfumes, air fresheners, garbage bags, vacuum cleaner bags, mouthwash, etc. In many people's home environment, there already exists a cacophony of fragrances!! No wonder they need candles with hot throw that make one's eyes water and sinuses run! They can't SMELL anymore and their noses are continually stopped up from all the assault on their olfactory senses!! People who use mostly unscented products in their homes are far more sensitive to fragrance and know that a little goes a long way.
Don't buy into marketing hype. Baffling people with bullsh*t rather than dazzling them with brilliance is a finely honed art! It is designed to separate you from your money with no regard for real results or detriment to your body or environment. Use common sense and you won't often go wrong.
NatureWax C3 has a very pleasing hot & cold throw which can be enhanced by the use of additives, but even without them, it's fine by itself. It's a happy medium that minimizes the ugly cosmetic aspects of soy wax (frosting, ugly tops, grainy texture) while keeping the CT & HT at acceptable levels.

My dream was always to open a shop that was a production facility as well as retail. My husband is super duper supportive and would always point out places for rent saying, "There's you a soap shop". At one point, I was so set to do it, I called and got rent quotes, utility cost projections etc. It didn't take me long to figure that the amount of product I'd have to sell to pay my bills, let alone make a profit, was more than I could probably make. I work as a nurse and do soap and candles in my spare time and I do everything myself. After a little thought, I saw my hobby turning into a chore, and decided I liked being a "little guy".

Just order from The Chemistry Store. That's who a lot of soapers use. They have a great reputation.

Very nice. I, too, love the ladybug one!
-
if I were to use water, what can I preserve it with that's NOT chemical?
I'm doing alot of reading and seeing things mentioned, such as Grapefruitseed Extract, and Hydrosols
most things touted as "natural" preservatives are anti-oxidants and won't prevent your lotion from growing cooties.

BrambleBerry? I love their gardenia.
-
I love Daystar's Brandied Pear. I do mostly HP, so I don't know about morphing or seizing issues with it.

I have smelled candles that were scented Love Spell that smelled differently than the FO I have. I got mine from another soaper (can't remember which brand it is). It's so much like fruit punch. Maybe I should try another one?
I too hate Love Spell but Hawaiian Punch, sickly sweet and fruity it is NOT. Smells like stinken weeds not flowers. yuck...It does throw and is strong from WSP, KY and Tenn. I can send a scency if you want it.
-
It's not just you. I can't stand it either. To me it smells exactly like Hawaiian Punch. Sickly sweet and fruity. I rarely soap this one without a blend and of course wherever I go people ask if I can do a Love Spell soap. *gag*
I bought Love Spell FO at the recommendation of some friends and can't stand the smell of it! Is it just me or do other not like it. There really aren't too many FOs I don't like but this is one of them. Stinky! -
I thought I found it still need info sorry guys idiot here lol:(

I actually bought a "lotion bar" mold, years ago from a gal online. It's got round cavities and are too big for guest soaps but not big enough for a standard bar. They fit perfectly in a 2oz tin.

That's actually pretty cool. If it held it's shape, I'd give it a try.
ANyone try the lasagnma mold? might be good for soap. -
They are called ScentSationals Fragrance Wax Cubes. Even the name sounds like crap.
I saw them at our Hobby Lobby. It's kinda funny because they specifically say (or maybe it's the warmers that go with them) that they are NOT Scentsy. The name is nearly the same though...not very orginal on their part! LOL -
Our Hobby Lobby actually has a large section with melts. I can't remember what the company name was but I smelled the corresponding oils for the diffusers and found them to be pretty low budget.
I get my candle warmers there when I need a couple for gifts or whatever. They are only 3.99.

Bramble Berry used to carry an Almond Biscotti. It's my best friend's favorite scent of all that I make.

How can you have a V-day without roses? I like Peaks Bouquet of Roses or CS Red Rose.
I would love a rose scent that doesn't remind me of little old ladies. Do these FO's fit that bill?

I just wanted to give an update incase anyone ever did a search and this thread came up...
Mark Denny now is the contact at Tedford, he called me today to let me know that a policy through America First is now 1100.00. He said to them "wait a minute we've been selling this policy for 1/2 that."
The underwritter for America First said they had a price increase.
Mark suggested that I go through Indie Beauty Network.
I'll just have to figure out how to come up with it all at once.
Kyme
What a crock. Okay, increase. But 100% increase? That's a bit drastic. Have they had to pay out a bunch of policies lately?

"Sassy" makes me think of 'Sex on the Beach' or 'Lick Me All Over'. Or how about 'Strawberry Musk'? Sweet red strawberries and sexy musk could be feeling some love.
That sounds delicious.

I use sweet almond oil, beeswax, coconut oil, cocoa butter and vitamin E. There is a lot of debate on the use of shea/cocoa butters in lip balms because they can go grainy. As well, some will debate the use of beeswax over candelila wax or some other vegan wax. It's up to you.
If you google lip balm recipes you will find tons of info. It so easy, it's worth trying your own first. I find making lip balms very calming.
-
Lip balm is so simple to make that I make my own. It depends on what you look for in a formulation if you want to buy a base or do trial and error to make your own. Now that I've got my formulation down, I like to make big batches that are unflavored and use that as my base for small runs of certain flavors.

Mystic woods. I'm not sure if elements has it or if Rhonda (flickers) kept it.
Rhonda from Flickers now runs Moonworks Collection.
-
Gaia from Moonworks smells like fresh turned earth. My son likes Cashmere Woods from Wholesale Supplies Plus. It's earthy, but smells masculinely perfumy (how's that for a description?) also.

Super cute! Is that just a pie tin?

Fill it with baking soda and let it sit and continue to air out. Then spray it with a citrusy cleaner and wash it thoroughly. Good luck!
