  1. The palm or lard is there to get a harder bar. If you don't want to use these just increase your Olive oil to cover the difference, it will take longer for the bars to harden, but they will be very hard after they cure.

Why are you opposed to the palm? There was a very lively debate about this on another forum and it turns out that most of the negative info floating around is false and misleading.

  2. She stated in her last post that the insulation is not fiberglass...it's cellulose which is more like paper.

Oh OK I missed that . Sorry. Well now I guess I would try and rinse and save it if possible.

  3. I agree with scented about the insulation as it is glass and if you have ever had insulation on you it makes you itch like crazy. I sure would not want to wash my body with a possibility of spreading it in sensitive places . Believe me you itch and itch.

I am however sorry to hear you lost your house and I'm sure more than just some soap & FO's. It is great you are OK though!

  4. I am up to about 60 weddings a year and occasionally I do soaps or lipbalms (wildly popular). When I do the soaps, I wrap them completely because they will in most cases be at the reception and if they are smellie they will conflict with the food - especially if they put them at their seats, like many do now a days. But having said that I have done the wrappers and I put the ingredients on the inside of wrapper - easy! That will leave room for the bride & groom details which is the most important to them! LOL

Great Idea!!Printing on the inside of the label!

  5. I don't use tins for the mold - I use them for the container. The tins I bought have a lip rolled IN so I cannot use them for molds - I use a separate mold that is a bit smaller than the tin, pop them out of the mold and into the tin.

I prefer a bar because I like to spread it and massage it in. With a stick I don't have the same effect. But I make it in a stick form as well (slightly different formula) for those who prefer it that way.

Ok Now I "see" it. All I could see before was a small tin like you get lip balm in. Now I understand yours is more like a bar of soap & stored in a tin between uses. Nice I like that idea also, but if I'm going to sell these in Fla it will be in the winter only, which is the only time anyone would probably want them anyway. Unless they use them for massage.

  6. I live in South Florida so it is pretty hot here also, I was just curious how much HS increased her BW cause we both live in hotter climates.

When you use tins for a molds are you selling them in the tin also? Do they then just pop them out to use or are they putting their finger inside to get it out? Sorry but I'm a visual person and for some reason I see a tin as being hard to use for a lotion bar unless you just use it as a mold & then pop it out to apply.

  7. I've never used it on my face but have but have behind my ears :laugh2: :laugh2:

This recipe is still my favorite, I alter the oils to see how they feel, but basically it stays the same.

Depnding on the weather, ex; summer anything will melt faster so you need to adjust your BW a bit. Kokum is a hard butter and for me that's what makes the bars awesome.

Where can I buy Kokum butter? How much do you adjust BW for summer? And why would you want to put it in a tin over a twist up tube? I just bought some twist up tubes to try this lotion bar in.

  8. Just an idea ,but if I didn't have a handy guy around , I'd take the drawer to a local Home Depot or Lowes and have them measure a piece of 1/2 to 3/4 in thick piece of wood cut to fit inside the drawer then I'd put a drawer knob on top. If you wanted it more finished you could get some sand paper and sand the sides and top.

  9. At work we test commercial detergents every year or two and Tide ALWAYS comes out on top (among hte commercial dtgts). The best combo we've seen is using Tide to pretreat then Tide to wash.

I haven't tried making my own Laundry soap but I have tried many different commercial brands and have to agree strongly with the above statement. Tide cleans best. In fact I hesitate to make my own because I'm afraid it won't clean as well. I have 5 boys and I don't live on a farm so I can only imagine the dirt from the farm. We do spend our summers on our 92 acre home , not farm life but MUCH more grim/dirt.:( I pretreat with Shout, but have wanted to try oxiclean with Tide to see how that would work.

  10. So in soap making you have to wear goggles or is it just with lye because im new at the soap making and im not trying to go blind. ill buy a scooba diving mask before i lose my eyesight. This is the first im hearing of this so maybe im not going to touch my soap base until i hear back from this post. :D

YES ! You must wear goggles (eye protection ) if you want to protect yourself from a possible lye splash. :(

I think that the last 7 pages have given some great examples of the many types of accidents that can happen!

    Regards.....
