  1. I've never noticed a correlation between extreme candle making and getting ill. But when my candle making was small and mostly for myself, the "Candle making area" was being doubled as my kitchen, I could go through 100 Excedrine Migraine in less then 2 weeks. Those FO's can kill ya!

I did something like this once and have found that the clear base sinks and the white floats to the top. I swirled it as it was cooling and came out with an interesting effect. Based on that though, I would think that the white was poured first.
  3. With my pillars, the bottom is ALWAYS the top. Like Scented said, it looks better!
  4. Were they all individually packaged?
  5. Hey Vicky, could we put a sticky up with a "please be sure to give this info if you're asking for help with a problem" type of thing???
  6. I apologize, DH reminded me I bought those at their sister store, but I cannot find a website for it. I found them at a few other stores too. DallasNovelty for example I know has them. You can look at bachelor/bachelorette party sites too as I've found them there. Sorry for the mixup.
  7. Dee, I use the ice cube trays for soaps, the plastic is likely thick enough to handle tarts so long as you watch your temps. Here in PA you can try a store like Condoms Galore, I'm 99% sure that's where I bought mine and I'm nearly positive that they offer free shipping. Since they're in PA, ship time shouldn't even be too long.
  8. I don't think your a trouble maker. If you're going to buy a product, you have the right to know what's in it before you eat it, apply it to your skin, etc... I simply cannot understand why someone would hold out on giving you that type of information. Just giving someone a list of ingredients isn't going to give away your recipe. Even if it isn't information that is *REQUIRED* to leave on a website or exchange, it's not an unreasonable request. I wouldn't do business with them and if they're breaking any type of law, I'd turn them in faster then you can blink.
  9. I do a lot of chunks with colored chunks and a white pour, they DO look very pretty.
  10. I'm thinking she wants to put a dish with water and flowers behind the board and use the candles to illuminate it. Maybe?
  11. Just a suggestion, I haven't tried it myself, but it seems like something a good health food/natural food store might have.
  12. Thanks for sharing. I'm probably going to try the second pour tomorrow as they were still a bit wet this afternoon when I checked on them. If it works, I'll share some pics too!
  13. I hadn't thought of doing a dual color that sounds like it'll be REALLY interesting. Ok, it's now been moved to the top of my list of things to try. Thanks for the idea!!! I usually spray my wick pins because I just have the WORST luck in unmolding pillars. I think with this candle it would've been even more beneficial because the wax is so thin in places and almost lace like.
  14. Yeah, that all pretty much sums up what I was expecting from it, but before I wicked it and lit it I was curious to see if I could confirm that. Unfortunately, it broke on me as I forgot to put mold release on the wick pin! Oh well... gonna let it dry out and go again. Thanks Scented!!!
  15. Has anyone done these before? I've got one upstairs that I need to unmold today and I'm curious if this is something that I should expect a good burn out of or if I should just keep these as a "Display Only" type of candle.
  16. Hmm... Do you know how high you heated it? Also, are you sure that your FO was soap safe?
  17. Did you add anything to it? If so, what and how much? To harden the bar, you might try some steric acid, but that won't tell us how/why it got so soft in the first place.
  18. Damn I wish I lived near a Dollar Tree!
  19. I bought some from Wal-Mart that work pretty good, I have to stuff them in a little bit, but it looks nice. They were about .50 a piece. Thanks for the heads up about Candles & Supplies, they're my usual supplier as I live close enough to pick stuff up and likely would've tried theirs.
  20. I use DesignPro and Microsoft Word 07. They haven't steered me wrong yet and I've found that I'm able to make some pretty decent looking stuff. I did a few designs for someone here and I'm waiting to hear back on the final proof.
  21. It is a shame, but I'm not surprised.
  22. I've had a similar problem once and was told that I had received the wrong "grade" of oils. The supplier resent my order and i'm still testing the new stuff but it seems to be better. I would think if it's just those scents that perhaps you want to contact the places you bought from and make sure there aren't any oppsies!
  23. I've tried doing this a few times. It doesn't always work very well. I had someone tell me "I want Pomegranate! If you get it, I'll buy from you and no one else." As someone I was more then acquaintances with, I said "Ok, I'll get you Pomegranate!" Well, don't you know, I bought it, she HATED it and I was stuck with it! Luckly, I didn't buy very much, but nonetheless. It's impossible to please everyone. Look at a scent like vanilla. Everyone has their own idea as to what a "good" vanilla is and that could encompass dozens of different types. I agree though with the idea of taking notes and seeing if there are any trends. If lots of people request "warm apple pie" let's say, then maybe it's something you should add. If someone REALLY wants that custom order and they're willing to wait for it, then maybe it's worth it.
  24. Oxides, I'm still mastering these, but got the technique down pretty well without killing any soap. There foodies that you can use and quite a variety at that. Food coloring, though the colors don't always hold up the best. There's herbals/"organics" (and I use that to mean natural stuff and not necessarily organic in the sense of the more expensive produce you buy at the store).
  25. Alajane, I went with this approach: http://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/Swirling-or-Marbling-Soap-p-15.html It sounds more complicated then it is but it does work quite nicely.
