  1. Tried and tried but cannot find any info. on adding menthol to produce a refreshing foot lotion. I have peppermint in it already, but am not getting that wonderful refreshing feeling.

I love my lotion bar recipe...can I add menthol crystals to it to make a foot lotion?? How much do I add? Is it considered medication when adding menthol and something I cannot do?? Where would one get menthol??

TIA for all the help I receive here!!

  2. Good Day all,

Question for you. I make ALL my soaps using Goat Milk as 1/2 of the liquid portion. Tell me - if I am soaping with 5% superfat, is my recipe really going to end up at more than a 5% superfat because of the Goat Milk??

Was wondering if a person should not superfat too high when using Goat Milk in their soaps because of the possibility of DOS?

    Thanks much, Vanessa

  3. Hi all,

Just wondered if any of you use any other method for checking the lye safety of yur soaps besides the tongue test??

Do any of you use ph strips - and if so what are we looking for in our soaps as far as ph goes?? Does the ph level of soap have to do with the lye level?

I love my soap, it feels wonderful on the skin - but it has been turning my wooden soap dishes that are varnished a dark color wherever the soap is in constant contact. So wondering if this has something to do with ph level.

    Thanks much, Vanessa

  4. Hi All,

Just reformulated my lotion bar. Added the ButterEZ!! WOW! What a difference! Nice and smooth and wonderful glide. My lotion bar is - Shea, Kokum, Jojoba, Castor, IPU and NOW ButterEZ!

My question - Does anyone understand the ingredience in the butterEZ. Caprylic/Capric/Stearic Glycerides ...Lotion Crafter states it is......natural, Kosher, non-hydrogenated butter created from vegetable sources.

    Thanks, Vanessa

  5. Hi all,

I made the wooden soap dish that was posted here and it turned out really cute!!! BUTTTTT, I tried it out and the dish turned black where the soap is resting on it!!!!!

What do you think is the problem?? I made it 2 ways. One dish has 3 coats of regular varnish..that dish only turned black at the edges. And then I used the MARINE varnish especially for water resistance and that dish turned black all over!!

    Any advise! Vanessa

  6. Hi all,

I made a foot lotion bar with 1 teaspoon of Peppermint EO in 12 oz of lotion. The bar is wonderful, but cannot feel the cooling sensation on my feet I had hoped for........(I don't have neuropothy either)

Can anyone tell me, for the feet, is it safe to go up to 2 tsp for a 12 oz recipe??

Looked all over the site here and can't find an answer as to how much EO for a soothing, cooling Foot Lotion Bar.

Can anyone tell me how much they use? I just love that cooling sensation after a hard day on my feet!

  7. Hi Lovemylabs!!

I just did a burnt Orange Patch!! It is very nice! I used BB's Smokey Patchouli and Orange 10x.

Chris is right though ~ the Orange WILL fade out if you use it 50/50. I used 75/25, orange 10x was the 75. With this combo. you can smell both the smokey and orange notes!!

  8. Hi all,

Question for any of you - have you experienced this??

The weather is getting colder here with winter coming and I soap RTCP. Anyway......I'm just lately noticed speckles in my latest newly made bars of soap. Almost looks like DOS - BUT, I know it's not because these are newly made. I have only gotten DOS once & know what it looks like, I superfate at 5%.

So....I'm thinking this is a result of soaping at too cool a temp and the FO not incorporating good enough. What do you all think?? Has anyone ever had this happen. On these batches my oil has been cool/coldish and I add my GM ice cubes to the already made up water/lye mixture.

    Thanks for the input, Vanessa

  9. Searched & searched and am not finding a clear answer on just how much FO is acceptable to use in a Lotion bar.

Can anyone tell me what percent to use. Am using the non greasy recipe. So far have been making 6 oz at a time and tried 1/2 tsp. Not sure what the persentage of FO this would be.

    Thanks, Vanessa
