Has anyone seen these being sold at their local Hobby Lobby? I was in Temple yesterday and saw them, was rather surprised. There were quite a few cracked due to the opening and closing. Some looked rather sloppy.

Until yesterday, I had only been in the Waco store and had never seen them in there, but the Temple store seemed quite a bit bigger, obviously carrying more stuff and this may be why.

I was a little surprised to see them being mass-made!

Hi Sherry, I'm probably not going to be of much help because I have never ordered palm wax from NG. If it does not specifically say glass glow, then it is probably the frost palm, which is also a pretty palm wax. Is there any way to get hold of someone at NG and ask them?

Hi Carole! The candle was palm wax. One candle was Mistletoe which was a chunk candle and the other was Red Clove, regular candle. I know now that the Mistletoe was over wicked, I went down two wick sizes. What was strange is the candle had only been burning about 2 hours (I was on my 2nd 4 hour burn) It was the same with the Red Clove. I could understand this happening if I had been doing a power burn, but having it happen during a regular test burn was scary.

I finally decided to scrap the chunk and made a regular candle out of the Mistletoe, and I scrapped the Red Clove. I have work on that one later.

We had a customer come in the store and was telling me how she makes candles with stuff she buys from Hobby Lobby. I brought up the subject of testing, and I am not sure she was understanding the fact that she should be testing before selling or giving them away. I don't think this can ever be overstated!

Sometimes, people really do scare me!

This post is more about testing in general. I have never had a candle catch on fire before but this fall/winter season I had 2 catch on fire. I am still not sure what the problem was, I did wick down on both candles. I don't know if this made any difference or not but they were both chunk container candles. I, like a lot of ya'll have had to adjust my wick sizes by going down one or two wick sizes, but never ever did I have one that caught on fire, it was like a flambeau (I don't even know if I spelt that right!!) Flames were not shooting out all over the place, tho! Now, if any of you have ideas why it could have happened, I would love to hear from you, because this totally scared the pee-pee right out of me!

I always test, test, test everything, but I do mine with a full jar, just because that's how I started out. After this happened to me, I really got concerned about those that test a scent and assume they all burn the same way, because THEY DO NOT! I know the responsibility of burning the candle right falls on the consumer, but they deserve a safe candle, do they not?

I have mine posted on etsy,2 so far,but haven't decided to sell refresher oils for them. A lot more work IMO. Just to add a tag or directions to them when half my customers won't even read the list of items I carry is enough to tell me they'd have no clue,lol. Oil is so expensive to.

If I sell the oil with them I'd be afraid that's all they'd want is a bottle of oil then and that's more stuff I'd have to purchase and add. When these run out they can buy more from me and I won't give them the option or tell them you can refresh them,I guess. I get mine from JBNature and they are only 1.00 lb..so not bad.

I am selling them for 7.00..here's my etsy link so you can see the 2 I have listed. May redo some pics before adding the other 3..I like the Sweet orange pic the best and want them to look like that..

CandleChic, you have a very nice website and I love your packaging! Everything is very nicely done. I am still pondering wether to do it or not. If I do it, it would be nice to have the re-fresher oil. The down side is the added expense and I'm just not sure that I have the cliental that would be willing to spend the extra money. It's not just the expense of the fo, you also would have the expense of the bottle. I ordered my rock salt from The Salt Works, mixing together the xtra large and the colossal.

I'll have to give this one a lot of thought!

I don't know if it is just palm wax or if all waxes do this, but I have noticed that the clamshells are cracking on the top from the continuous opening and closing. I have mine in wicker baskets, so I am going to need to do samples so they can smell the scent without damaging my clamshells.

For those of you who are going to sell the crystal potpourri, are you selling small bottles of the FO along with the potpourri or are you selling the potpourri alone? I found a few places that sell it over the net, but they are selling small bottles of the FO along with the crystal potpourri so that you can freshen it up as it starts to loose the scent. It was at this point I decided not to try and sell these, just in case they did not go over. I'm just wondering what others are doing.

Ok, now that ya'll have totally freaked me out about the silicone....I have a question. Is this now dangerous to use in my candles? The chemistry lingo is making my head spin! I use the GE Silicone II. (the clear stuff) I always wick my candles the day before, maybe 24 hours or a little less. I use enough that it will squish out a little from the sustainer, just to make sure the wick will stay put. :confused:

I noticed a couple of years ago that Yankee had some essential oil candles, they seemed fairly expensive. I am not sure if they were soy or paraffin. I saw them at Linens-n-Things, at the time and they did not seem to be selling very well.

Since I make palm wax candles, I had considered making some using essential oils. We own a health food store and do carry some of the essential oils, but when I was checking out the prices of some of the ones I would like to make candles out of, I thought there is no way anyone would spend that kind of money for a candle. Some of them are very pricey.

It seems like I read somewhere, where essential oil candles were not meant to fill a whole room with scent. A customer is not going to like this and you would have to make sure that they understand this when they buy it.

I may try after the first of the year, it would be interesting to see what happens!

How much stearic acid should I add? Also, does it hurt to add it even if I am not having a sticking problem with the tarts? I thought I had some stearic acid, but I don't so will need to order. Do you know where is the best place to get some?

Being in Australia we probably have different sources for palm wax, but I've never ever NOT had palm wax slide out of a mixing bowl when set or slip out of a melt burner.

Sometimes when Richard leaves some container palm in one of the deep fryer pots the only way I know which wax it is is because his container wax sticks and my pillar/tart wax doesn't.

I've never heard before that it shouldn't slip free easily?

Tracy, I talked to Richard about this, because I knew that ya'll used the pillar palm wax and he essentially told me the same thing you just said, you've never had a problem with it sticking.

These are 55lb bags of wax that I was having problems with. The first 55lb was sticking (before that I was just ordering 10lb bags, with no sticking problems) Then I had to re-order another 55lb (feather palm) and this one is not sticking. I did have to wonder if there was some sort of problem.

Stella, I'm confused about your palm wax. Are you saying that your "pillar palm wax" is small beads with dusty stuff? My feather and starburst are both in very tiny bead form, they actually look identical, but they have no dust on them, very clean to work with. Now the glass glow, it's a whole different look. It is in flake form, but very dusty. When I pour it up to weigh, dust is flying everywhere, as is when I put it in the melter. I do get both of them from Candle Science. Also, do you think that adding stearic acid would help it not to stick in the tart warmer bowl? I know that was a wacky question, but since I was on a roll, I figured, what the heck!!

Stella, I am using the feather palm from Candle Science and I make tarts using the metal tart molds.

The first time they stuck was with a new batch of feather palm. They stuck no matter what FO, I used. Now I have a new batch of feather wax and I thought I would just try and see if they would stick with it. I used Orange Vanilla and after I let it cool down, it had shrunk away, lifting right out of the bowl, go figure.

I know I am making waaaaay toooo much out of this, so.....I think I will slink back to my little hole!

Apparently there is a difference in palm wax from bag to bag. I have now made tarts from 3 different batches of palm wax. The first batch the tart slid right of the bowl when I wanted to change my scent. The second one, I had to put it in the freezer and then get a knife and pry it out. Now, with having made tarts with this new batch of wax, they are once again sliding right out of the bowl.

Does anyone know if additives are added to the palm wax? I am pleading ignorant on this because I am confused. When I called Candle Science about the ones sticking, I was told that actually, it was unusual for them to pop out of the tart warmer bowl.

I have to agree with you, Stella. A wick that you think is not burning right half way thru the burn, can end up cleaning the jar at the end of the burn. This can change from one FO to another. Thus the importance of testing. This was especially true when I started making pillar candles. :smiley2:

I use the cd's. I get them from Tennessee Candles, but there are other candle companies that have them, too.

I started out with the rrd's because this is what Peak's suggested. I went thru 5 different wick sizes and nothing would burn right. If I came close to getting the correct size wick, I would get soot and a large flame. I tried the csn wicks and didn't like the large flame and to me the candle burned too fast. Then I tried the cd wicks and never looked back.

There are some who do like to use the csn wicks. I think it is preference. You can have a good burning candle using different wicks and there is nothing wrong with that!

I was afraid I wouldn't let them set up long enough and that they would bleed thru. Next time, I will be trying with a few tarts to get the hang of things. Thank you for your help! Deb :smiley2:

Some of you have made some beautiful multicolored tarts. I was trying to make Orange-Vanilla in a two-toned, white on the bottom and orange on top. I let the white harden totally and then poured the orange. They don't look horrible, but they are far from perfect. The orange ran underneath the white, not real bad, but I was disappointed.

I thought this would be a no brainer so..... I make 20 of them! Hello .....brainer! Anybody have some words of wisdom for me?

I have had a few that will discolor the wax but does not smell burnt, the last one was Peak's Black Raspberry Vanilla. I made a chunk container candle and that bugger discolored something awful. I was disappointed because it made a prettier candle using the light purple vs the dark purple. I never did smell a burnt smell to it though. I suppose that it could happen with some scents that I just haven't used yet. Carol, do remember what scents that you used that smelt burnt?
