I ordered some to try out, but when I got it in and smelled of it I personally did not care for it, but that was just me, the descriptions that have been given are right-on.

Welcome! I have only been doing this for about 9 months, but finding this web site was wonderful. I started out reading books, which helped some, but all of the books were geared towards paraffin, and I wanted to work with palm wax. I went to the archives and printed everything that I could find on palm wax. I probably printed off about 100 pages. I have a note book that I keep them in and everyday after work I would sit and read and then and then re-read. When I make candles, I have a spiral note book that I write everything in. Take notes, it is the best thing that you can do! Even when testing your candles write down everything. You will be surprised how much that is going to help you. I have finally perfected four scents. Everyone hear is wonderful and you will get great help. I have to thank Jakalex for help with my wicks, she was so sweet. Good luck to you!!

Thank you all for your valuable input! Stella, I think that you are right, it was a very deep air pocket. My melt pool's have been about 1/2". I just thought it was odd that the first 4 hour burn everything was great. I will just have too push deeper for those air pockets when I am making my candles! Thank you all again!

I don't know if I am explaining this right or not. This is about a candle that I was doing a test burn on. The candle burned well when I lit it the first time and burned it for 4 hours. I did a test burn the next day and the air pocket formed in the wax that was melted and then solidified. I hope I am making sense about this!

I was doing a test burn on a 10 oz apothecary jar and it had a huge air pocket in it where the liquid wax solidified. The day when I re-lit it, it was like a huge crater. I have been testing my glass glow for the last 8 months and have never had an air pocket to form like this. Just wondering if anyone has ever come across this before. :confused:

I am wanting to make clamshells out of palm wax and wanted to know if you use container or pillar?? Also what temperature should you pour the wax? Thanking you in advance for your help!

I am trying to wick a 3" status jar that is 14oz. The first time I wicked it with a csn 14 and did not like how it burned. The second time, I wicked it with 2 csn 7's. The first test burn, it burned well. The second test burn, I got a really deep melt pool with it, about 1", and this was after 3 hours. I am using Peak's glass glow, but I also made one using the frost palm from Candle Science. I use 1 1/2 oz FO per lb of wax, 1 drop of liquid dye. With both waxes I got the same result. HELP!!!!!!! :confused:

I was just wondering what all of you that use this wax thought about the hot throw, is is ok or great? Just wondering thought about it but saw that it can only hold 3% f.o.

I use 1 1/2 oz per lb. of wax. It has a great hot throw!

When I do the glass glow and the frost palm both, I heat my oven to 200 degrees. Just before I put in the FO and dye, I put both the pouring pitcher and the glass containers in the oven, after everything is mixed, ( I can't give you a time period!) I take them out and pour the wax. After I pour I put a box over the containers and cover it with a towel, (covering with a towel probably is not necessary, but I do it anyway.) I have never had one not turn out. The candles are always beautiful.....now if I could just get the wicking down! LOL I hope that this helps, as I have only been working on this for the past 6 months and there are others with far more experience. I wish that I had found the craft server when I first began and maybe would have not caused myself so much heart ache! Good Luck, Debbie

P.S. I also pour at 200 degrees. I read somewhere that it was suggested to pour between 165-185 degrees. If you do this, you will get a whole bunch of jump lines, so apparently this was not real good advise.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there was a difference in the 2 dyes? Is it just a matter of preference or can it impact the wax and how it burns? This is in reference to palm wax. It seems that on a previous thread that I read someone did not have problems with their palm wax discoloring when using liquid dye. :smiley2:

Thank you both for your thoughts. This was just pure inexperience in candle making. When I started out I ordered several jars, the balmoral and the apothecary, because I thought they would make pretty candles. After deciding to go with the palm wax, I thought the jars just seem to fit the beauty of the wax. With the balmoral jar I started out with the rrd wicks. I have used rrd's 37,40,47,& 55. The rrd47 I have actually burned and got a pretty good burn, it didn't start to discolor until the very end and the sent really seemed to be off at this point. The other jar I made with the 47 I am on my 3rd test burn right now, and still have a lot of hang up on one side. There is no discoloration as of yet. When I made these jars, I used 1oz FO per lb of wax and a few snips of the color dye chips, they are not very dark. When trying to find new wicks, I bought some csn's and on the 4" I tried 2 csn 11's and went down to 2 csn 7's I am on my 2nd test burn on it and am happy with the way it is burning! Can you use dark colors with the Glass Glow without it clogging the wick or is this even a problem? I know this is lengthy, I'm sorry. If I can't make these work, I am going to be stuck with a whole case of these balmoral jars! Debbie

I made a 31/2" and a 4" container using glass glow from Peaks. I used 2 csn 7's in them both. The 31/2" is a balmoral jar with a smaller opening than the 4" The 31/2 " discolored after a 3 hour burn. It is not real bad, but this was the first burn. The 4" did not discolor. My question is will the discoloration get worse the more it is burned? After a little more work on these, I would like to start selling these in our health food store, so I am wondering if any of ya'll sell the glass glow, do you have this problem and if so what do you tell people that purchase them? :smiley2:

I also tried rrds in a 2.5 inch jar but like you said they burned very fast and my jar too got very hot. I just ordered some lx wicks and am going to try with them also. I just think that the wax looks so beautiful in the jars I want to get this down right so I can make them and give them as gifts. Joy[/quoteHi, Joy! I didn't know the csn's came in a 5. I understand the palm wax will not always get a complete melt pool on the 1st burn. So when you have some hang-up, it may take till the 3rd or 4thn burns before the hang-up starts to melt. I just would like to get one jar right! LOL If anyone out there can help, it would be much appreciated. I started this back in April and was getting really discouraged until I found this website. I really want to get this down! We have a health food store that I would like to make these for and had hoped to have them ready by fall. There are no palm wax candles being sold in this area, so I would like to see if I can get some started really soon! Debbie

I'm so new to this, I'm glad that you responded. How were your flames? Were they large? This is a 4" apothecary jar. I have tried 2 rrd 34's, I tried cdn (can't remember the size), so the csn's were my next try. The rrd's burned it too fast and the jar was to hot for my comfort. Have you got any suggestions? I am new to candle making and am starting out with palm wax ( I now know this is a hard wax to start with!) I have made some container candles 3.5 and 4 inch jars . In the 4" I used GG, 2 csn 11's and got a full melt pool withn 1 1/2 hours with what I thought were too large of flames. On the 2nd test burn they were waving all over the place and the jar was what I considered too hot. Has anyone got any suggestions? I have ordered some csn 7 and am wondering if that might work?
