  1. jacquio and starr, i have a crock pot, actually two, just got a 2 qt for small batches, already had a 4 qt. the confusion was my fault, i meant to put CPOP in the title of the post. i've made a couple batches in the small one, they came out very nice. thanks to you both for answering poor confused (and confusing) me! ei
  2. top, this is so funny. after i posted this, i realized i had put HP in the subject instead of CPOP, which is what i meant! it was too late to edit it, so i put out another post explaining, i guess no one saw it. but you still answered the question perfectly! thanks!
  3. sorry, the subject in my post from this morning should have been CPOP, NOT HP in a toaster/convection oven! here's the rest of the post for those who didn't read the first one..... has anyone ever done this? i read a post where someone said she put the mold on a heating pad, and i'm pretty sure the heat control on that doesn't have degrees, but i could be wrong. some of the toaster/convection ovens and rotisseries out there today are pretty big and complex, definitely a far cry from the original toaster ovens. our oven is broken and even when they fix it, it doesn't last. i'm sure eventually they'll install a new one, but in the meantime..... i make small batches, still pretty new to CP and CPHP, but i'd love to try CPOP. anyone?? thanks! ei

  5. maybe i'm confused, but if 10% superfat called for 122 gms, then soap made with 110 gms should be superfatted even higher, no? so it might be really soft, but how can it be dangerous? less lye, more extra fat/oils, right? or am i reading something wrong? ei
  6. i totally agree with CareBear and Platypus! i joined this forum early last year to learn about soy candle making. the soap section finally drew me in. i made my first batch of CP on June 3rd of this year. i had done some reading on the forum and also bought two books, and knew i it would be a long time and a lot more reading before i really understood the intricacies of making soap. but i really wanted to make soap, so i did what turned out to be a really smart thing. i read and followed eugenia's tutorial on RTCP on the forum. i checked with eugenia first and asked her if the fragrance oil i wanted to use would be ok. she said yes. actually, i didn't even do the color part, i just made soap..... simple white soap with lard and olive, coconut and castor oils, and it was wonderful! i used a whisk and did it by hand and poured it in a shoebox. the soap was/is great. no problems. slow to trace. perfect for a newbie like me, not to mention it's a really nice soap! i've made some more batches, still not a lot. different recipes, different fragrances, and i continue to read and search for answers and ask for help. and i've just ventured into CPHP - fun and fast - thanks to Barbara AL for her help! just my , for what it's worth! ei
  7. i have to second this! in both candles and CP it is great. it's the perfect lavender for me and from what i've read, it sticks longer in soap that the real thing. my soap is only about 4 months old, so i can't personally attest to that. i have candles from months ago that are at least as good as when i poured them, maybe better with age! my wax is GB464. ei
  8. hi everyone, i'm trying to figure out what size i should make my soap. i keep debating and at this rate i'll NEVER order a mold! thanks! ei
  9. i just wrote to mike, hopefully he'll respond tomorrow and i'll post his reply! ei
  10. ok, i'll try to find it. thanx! the molds are awesome, i really want to get one..... or two..... or three...... or.....
  11. OMG carole, i'm so sorry!! i read your response, something happened that i had to get off the computer (don't even remember what) and i never answered you!! yes, it was logan bear. now i'm afraid to order one because of the unmolding problem. my freezer paper peels off real easy! thank you!!!
  12. hi, why not get your palm oil from soaperschoice (columbus foods)? i wrote to mike a while back about their palm oil and he assured me that all of his palm oil suppliers are members of RSPO. i'm not comfortable sharing his e-mail without his ok. if you'd like to see the entire e-mail, i'll write to him tonite and ask. i can't imagine he'll say no. i was very satisfied with his response and will definitely purchase my palm oil from them. ei
  13. i hope someone can help me. one day a few weeks ago i was reading thru posts about molds. i'm still using boxes lined with freezer paper, but i'm hoping to get a mold soon. somehow (from one of the posts i think, or maybe from a search) i got to a site that had slab molds and you could put in the length and width of the bars you wanted to make and also how many of them in a batch. they would then make the mold and the plastic divider. i should have saved the site, but i didn't. now i can't find it. does this sound familiar to anyone? thanks! ei
  14. i just checked out the site. i haven't the time to read everything now, but i have to say the first few are amazing! i will certainly be back to it later today to read all the descriptions and to vote. the talent and creativity of the soapers show thru in their writing ability as well as their beautiful soaps!! everyone should take the time to look. just try not to get jealous!!!
  15. if you want to try the FO again, i found that eugenia's recipe in her room temp tutorial was very slow to trace when i did it by hand and without FO. the very first batch i made i used CS lavender and it was wonderful and traced in a "reasonable" time, tho i can't tell you how long. the second batch i made for hubby was the same recipe, room temp again, with no FO because he breaks out very easily. i made it one nite after work (i work 12 hr days plus 2 1/2 hrs travel) and it was on the late side when i started. i knew the recipe was good, but had NO idea it would take over an hour to trace! i was afraid to try the stick blender! i thought for sure it would never turn into soap. when i saw the slightest trace, i poured it in the shoebox and went to bed. i got about 3 hours sleep that nite! the soap was fine. btw, it's a really nice soap and i use it for any FO i'm not sure about, at full water and 5% superfat. ei
  16. thanx guys! ya know care bear i think you may be right. especially with the kind of luck i have!!! LOL
  17. sorry, meant to thank everyone for replying. :embarasse i'm thinking of mixing a few things already. of course i don't even have the oils yet! to think when i joined this group i actually thought i was just going to make candles......... lol
  18. hi, i got some palm oil recently from a co-op. it's in a big baggie. when i got it, it was kind of like pretty soft mashed potatoes, no lumps tho! now it's separated some, as i've read it does, still soft of course. it's about 78 degrees in here. can i just knead it in the bag to mix it? after a few weeks of different things keeping me from soaping, i finally have some time and want to try a new recipe. it's my first time with palm and i'm a bit nervous. thanks for any help!! ei
  19. hi grama, easy to tell you've been on this forum at lot longer than i have!! :smiley2: i still don't know many of the people who "go with" the websites. until very recently i only dealt with candle science 'cause i was just doing candles. can someone else help us out with tony's new name? thx, ei
  20. hi, i have a recipe that call for kukui, which i don't have. i checked the values of lots of oils and hemp seems to come very close to the values of kukui and i have some help. is there anything about hemp that might make it not as good as i think?? tia, ei
  21. thanks to both of you for the info. unfortunately BCN isn't carrying it due to price and BCS is only selling it by the pound, 36.95. i can't afford that. i'd love to find a few people who might want it too, then it would be possible to get it, but i'm not sure how to do that. oh well, guess i'll have to try somwhere else and hope it's at least decent.
  22. found it! so i guess if i want to try this i have to learn HP! Lord help me. i've only been doing CP for a couple of months! thanks... i think....... ei
  23. thanks barb. now what is the name that AH uses? is it angel baby? ei
  24. and if it's also good in soy wax, that would be a bonus! it's my best friend's fave. tia, ei
