  1. Hi everyone, I just poured testers of CS hot buttered rum, spiced wassail and cranberry marmalade in 4 ounce jelly jars. I have very vanilla and pumpkin souffle burning already. It smells like a party in here.... YUM YUM! Guess I should light the mistletoe too......... hope everyone is having fun testing new scents, I know i am! Ei
  2. Hey Dana and Emily! OK, I got sucked into the Jets game so I haven't started the Cranberry Marmalade yet. I think both of you use a lower FO load than i do. I was the one a while ago that was getting teased for my 12% load, so I AM getting better . I can't come down again right now, I actually have a couple of fragrances that are completely tested in two containers (burned to the bottom for sure) and safe at 9%, and a couple more in testing. That said, have either of you wicked up for the Cranberry Marmalade? Thanks for your advice and help, I appreciate it more than I can say. Ei
  3. Hi Dana, I will definitely check out the guide at LoneStar, thanks for the info and also for sharing your wicking info! I am (IM)patiently waiting for Tuesday nite to start the burn and I will definitely let you know. Have you used CS Cranberry Marmalade? I am trying that today for the first time. Thanks again, Ei
  4. Hi Emily, Thanks for answering. I went by the CS chart for wicking and then went up some because the supplier said in the description to go up a wick or two. I know some people think the CS wick guide goes a bit high, but I usually use 9% FO, so for me it's pretty good. Only reason I dropped the FO down was because of all the info i found about patch on the forum!! One nice thing about the "little guys", they are fast and easy to pour and burn! I will try the smaller wick first and then will rewick the second one if it burns too fast. Can't wait to burn them! Thank you again, Ei
  5. OK, so I already know I'm nuts to try patch, but it brings back memories . my very best friend also loves it. so i poured two small testers last nite, 6% fragrance load. i used the 4 oz. jelly jar from CS (which is VERY cute with the daisy lid) wicked one with an ECO 12 and one with a 14. I am dying to burn them, does patch need a long cure or does it depend on the supplier? I got this a while ago from Candle Soylutions. Thanks in advance for any thoughts! Ei
  6. Thanks for the responses. I waited till yesterday to give it to my girlfriend who is a big fan. She said it smells really nice, but not like F&M. She actually told me it reminds her of Bailey's Irish Cream. I wish now I had kept it and tried it. I will pour another tonite and try it in a couple of days. I got the samples during the big sale Candle S cience and am wonder if they could have accidently mislabeled something else? HAs this ever happened to anyone?? I have Frankincense and some Patch from Candle Soylutions and I'm going to mix them tonite too. I know i'll have to wick up, guess i'll go up one size and see what happens.
  7. Candle Science Chardonnay. I use it in GB 464. My daughter is a Chardonnay aficionado and she loves it! I am not a wine person, but I also think it's a great scent! Ei
  8. Hi All, I am burning two testers with 9% CS Pumpkin Souffle. Light color, 1/2 butterscotch chip to a pound. One is wicked with an ECO 12, the other with an ECO 14. 10 ounce status glass from CS, 3 inch diameter. The 14 is burning very well, just leaving a light coating of wax, more like a film. almost to the end of the wax now. The 12 is also burning nicely, but much slower, as i would expect. There's still a little over an inch of wax left and there's a thicker coat of wax than the 14. The throw from both is totally amazing, of course i'm getting a longer burn from the 12. I think the sides may still get better, lighter film, but not sure. The glass is just a LITTLE bit hot with the 14, with the 12, even with a 12 hour power burn, it's fine. My question is when someone says they like the glass so they can hold it, does that mean when burned properly, or at least close to properly, or does it mean even if someone lets the candle burn for 14 hours? I have to decide soon which wick to use. Any thoughts? Also, would anyone try adding more color and going with the 14? Or cutting back and maybe using no color and going with the 12? Will that help enough? Sorry for the long note, but I'm trying to get all the info in. Thanks! Ei
  9. hi, i poured a CS frankincense and myrhh candle the night before last 1 1/2 oz in 464. i always wait to burn, usually 5 to 7 days, but of while i'm waiting i have to sniff occasionally! i can barely smell anything when i put it right up to my nose. it smelled great oob and it seems to have gotten good reviews for HT. does it need a long cure or is it just my nose?? or does it have minimum cold thorw but great hot?? thanks all! ei
  10. no, nothing at all. i did read that the pumpkin souffle is heavy and several people on the forum said they wick up with it. i'll burn again tomorrow and see how it goes. thanks!
  11. hi, i poured 3 CS pumpkin souffle candles, 1.5 ounces to a pound. top diameter of the roly poly glass (holds 8 oz.) is a bit under 3 inches and the widest part is a little over 3 inches. i used an LX24, an ECO16 and a CSN 26. did a 4 hr. test burn today. the LX24 looked like it might drown if i let it go much longer than the 4 hrs., tho it had great throw and a nice melt pool, a bit milky tho. the ECO16 isn't giving me a deep enough melt pool and the throw isn't as good at the LX24. the CSN26 gives great throw, cleans the glass, but on first burn used 7/8 oz. and mushroomed. none were too hot. i know the second burn will be different. i was thinking of pouring another with a CSN 22 wick. or will that be too small? or do you think i should wait till i finish testing these? all help gratefully accepted! and thanks to all for the advice you've already given to me. :smiley2: eileen
  12. thanks for your input. i guess i was just looking for an easy way..... and i know better already with soy! :smiley2: eileen
  13. thanks for all the suggestions. i'll start testing the lower amount tomorrow. eileen
  14. hi carole, i use candle science oils, except for candle soylutions sandalwood and amber and their lime. exactly what do you mean by decreasing slightly? i am so afraid of losing the great strong throw i am getting now. thanks! eileen
  15. hi, after having a number of people tell me i am wasting FO by using 2 oz. in a pound of gb464, i want to cut back, but now i have to start all over again with wicking. can anyone give me a hint how much i should wick down if i go to 1 1/2 oz? 1 oz? just a starting place. i have some really good burns right now at 2 oz and it is going to be painful to give them up! i have been using eco and lx wicks. thanks in advance for any help! eileen
  16. hi meridith, funny that you wrote that. i was sitting here thinking about the nice burn (cleaned the glass) and wonderful throw i got with the two eco 10's, but too fast and the glass was too hot to suit me. then i signed on to the forum and saw your comments! are you a big eco wick fan? i am trying to switch to them from lx wicks, but some of the original tests i did with the lx were actually really good. of course now i am wondering if they would be even better with the ecos! i wish they came in bigger sizes. i do a roly poly about 3 " at widest part) that i use a csn 26 in, that does a great job with throw and cleaning the glass also. eileen
  17. thanks to everyone who made suggestions. I had some problems with internet access and then once i got it back i completely forgot i hadn't thanked everyone who answered my question. so a belated thanks to all! eileen
  18. it makes sense to cut back, and i guess i will, but if i drop back to 1 1/2 or even 1 ounce, i'll have to start testing all over. i know it's all part of candles, but i have a full time job and i am struggling a bit with time management. can you give me an idea of how much you'd back down? 1 wick size for 1 1/2 ounces and 2 sizes for 1 ounce? or is that too much of a drop? i know there will be exceptions, but as a general rule? thanks again! ei
  19. thanx for the answers. i have been double wicking with LX 14s and 16s and even those seem to burn fast sometimes. if i used a bigger wick than that, i don't think things would go well. i guess the faster burn is related to the extra FO i have been using? i gather you all think i am a bit silly to use that much! i really do have a reason......... i bought about $275 worth of soy candles for Christmas presents last year and was terribly disappointed in them. i thought there must be a better way, and since i've done lots of arts and crafts, i thought i'd give it a try! when i saw that 464 held the most fragrance oil, i figured that was the one i'd try first. can i still get a really good throw with less? i have been primarily using Candle Science fragrances that are rated 3 soy leaves for use in soy. i do have a few from Candle Soylutions which also seem excellent. in fact the first candle i made i mixed the C. Soylution lime with the C. Science vanilla trying to match Yankee Candles vanilla lime. it's still my favorite (mine, not theirs!) once again, thank you all for your help and for taking the time to share your know-how with me. eileen
  20. hi, this is my first time writing. i'm new to soy and to candles overall. i am using max fragrance load 2 oz to a pound. i've been testing with GB 464 and started with LX wicks. i've double wicked the 4 inch jar with LX14 and also tried LX16. with some FOs i have had success, but with others the two 14s leave too much on the sides and the melt pool doesn't reach the edge in some cases, or takes too long. The LX16s seem bit too hot, too fast a melt pool and just too hot glass. i've just gotten some ECO wicks but i haven't seen much on here about the ECOs with 464. i know different oils are different, i'm just looking for some starting points for the ECO wicks if anyone can help? Candle Science recommends them with the GB 464, but i am using twice as much FO as they use in their testing. thanks in advance for any help/starting points you can give me!! :smiley2: eileen
