  1. OK wow, well I was just trying to ask a general question about how someone that is new to this could tell if their wick is to small. Sorry I didnt give any info on a candle, was just trying to make it a general question. And the 1 1/2 inches was just to give an example, not a fact about my candles. But I quess there is not a general or an around about way for a seasoned candle maker to tell a newbie what a too small of a wick would look like. Thanks for the info.
  2. Sorry for thread jacking but is there a way you can tell if the wick is to small after so many burns? Like could you tell it is too small after the 4 burn and there is about 1 1/2 inches left on each side still. Or do I really have to go all the way to the end of the candle to find out? Thanks for any help.
  3. Hey I just wanted to let any one know that is wanting to try CDN wicks to email wicks unlimited for samples. I email them Monday to asked about which wicks would be good for my 4" diam candle and they emailed back saying that the Stabilo 22 (CD 22) or the Stabilo KST 22 (CDN 22) might work but they only sell them at 1000 pieces. So I asked if they could send me a sample of them. And OMG they sent me 20 of each. I was thinking like 5 maybe but wow I cant believe they would send that many for FREE, no shipping charges, nothing. I have never requested free samples before but I was thinking I would have to pay for shipping at least. Well I will be able to test with these for forever, I am new to this and right now I am only working with 4 scents. I am so excited so I am going to make some candles now.
  4. Yes thanks I have seen the link, I just didnt want to go throught all the links to find out which place has it. Thank for the info I will check them out and see how shipping is because I really want to find another soy wax, not really liking the soy 125 from candlewic.com that I have and I have 50 lbs of it.
  5. I have never done this before but was wondering if I could use my soy 125 wax to make tarts? It is soy wax with cottonseed oil in it, do you think it would work if I added coconut oil to it. Or do I need a different kind of wax? Well thanks for any info.
  6. Im useing soy 125 from candlewic.com. And I tried early double wicking it with the HTP 1212 but it was way to hot, within one hour I had a full mp. So that is not going to work.
  7. Yeah I am trying to single wick it. I have heard from Stella on here that a CDN20 worked for her candle but she said she should of used a CDN22. I am not really sure what my melt point is, is that bad, candlewic doesnt say on their website. I was hoping to get some CDN24 and CDN26 do you know of another website that has some, that I dont have to buy 1000 of them?
  8. OMG thanks so much. There prices are great to and I love that I can order just 25 of each set. I was coming back here to edit my message to say some place that I dont have to order 1000 at a time. Thanks again, really you are a life saver.
  9. I have look on about 10 different website and cant seam to find wicks called CDN, I find CD. Are they called something else? My HTP 1212 wicks didnt work in my 4" diam jars so I heard these are go but I just cant seam to find them. Well TIA
  10. Wow that is great!!! In a way it is even better than just jumping into having a store, look at it as a test drive. I wish you the best of luck and Congratulations. ps by the way could you point me in a good direction for leaning how to make soap, thanks.
  11. Yeah it is a container candle. Can I put it in the box it came in with other scent? The jars have lids but not sure if that will block all of the scent from mixing with the other ones. TIA
  12. I know I will need to do my own test to see how long I need to cure my candles but where are you guys putting your candles. So far I have just been letting them sit on the bar to cure but was wondering do I need to put them somewhere the light doesnt get to them, like the closet? The sun is not hitting them right now but it is sunny in my house. Well TIA for letting me know what to do.
  13. Ok I posted this on the Fragrance Discussion board but only one person answered me and she did know if it was ok. So I thought maybe you guys would know. Ok I just got this FO today and it looks really funny. It in not just liquid but also this filmy clumps in it. Is this normal for this FO.:undecided It shouldnt be an old FO, when I ordered it about 3 weeks ago they had to back order it for me because they were out of it at that time. And I did try to call their customer service line but they are closed right now and I really wanted to make a candle tonight. Well TIA if you can help me. If anyone know if this is ok please let me and what I have to do to get it to liquid form to make a candle.

  15. OK so now I really want to try this coconut oil in my candles to see if it will help the tops. So where are you guys getting it from? Like Walmart in in the food part with the olive oil? Not really sure but I saw someone say walmart so if I could get it from there that would be great. Well TIA.
  16. Thanks for giving me that link I am going to check it out right now.
  17. Thanks I saw that but it doesnt say why they like it or where they got it from. I am really new to this so I am just wondering why poeple choose one over the other with soy wax.
  18. I know there are a bunch of post about problems with different soy waxes and was wondering which one you prefer, why and where you got it from? And if there is any ones that you really didn’t care for.
  19. Yeah I have about 24 jars that are 10 oz with a 4' diam. The wicks I bought are HTP 1212, this is what the website said would be good. So I will see if this works but if not maybe I will try the CDN 22. I really am really new at this how process and really dont know anything about the wicks except what I read on there website. I know I just need to do some testing Just wish I could find some place where I didnt have to buy a bag of 100 wicks, all the same kind, KWIM? And I really dont want to double wick it, the mouth of the jar is smaller than the rest and plus I just dont really like the whole double wicking look on a candle that is really not that big. Well thanks for letting me know how that candle went.
  20. Thanks so much, and I am so glad I found this board. Every other board I have come across hardly anyone keeps up on it. And my head is really spinning now from read a billon post from way back when. I have a question for you. Around November you where doing a test burn on a candle with a 4" diam and I looked really hard but for some reason I cant find the post of the finish candle. Did the wick, I think it was a CD 20, work and did you get a clean burn? If you have no clue what I am talking about dont worry about it. Well I need to get to bed. Thanks everyone else for the help.
  21. Ok this is my first time making soy candles and I am really getting frustrated. I thought soy candles would look creamy but I must be doing something wrong. Ok to start I am using wax soy 125 from candlewick.com I melted it to 175, and then I added the color to it until I got it right. Then I turned the heat off and when it got to around 155 I poured in my scent, then at around 150 I poured into my warm container. I let it cool completely by itself and didn’t burn it until 3 days later. But the top look horrible. I did read somewhere that the top would need to be heated up again to fix it but this is not like what I expected. It looked like the top layer came apart from the rest of the candle, like there where a bunch of air bubbles under it. And then when I picked at them with a tooth pick there seamed to be a little liquid there too. Well I did some more research and found another way to pour the candle. It said the heat wax until 175, then add color and scent, then take off burner and let it sit until it is around 100, when it starts to cloud over, then stir and pour into room temp container. Well I tried that to (I re-melted the wax out of the container used in the above) and it was fine not flakiness on the top but it did sink in just a little bit in the middle (could it be from re-melting the wax), and it was a lot more clean up, harder to clean pouring pot because there was more wax left behind (which seams like a waste to me also). So if anyone can please give me any pointers I would greatly appreciate them. I bought 50 lbs of this wax so I am hoping this starts to turn out a little better. Antonia
