1. Well heck, they're not ugly! I love the colors. What did you use to attain the blue? They shouldn't rip your skin off, lol. It will take a few uses to get it broken in, so to speak. You can do that by using a wash cloth with it or a poof. And remember, you won't have alot of lather... it's going to be more lotiony feeling. It's going to be fine. :)

  2. There are a few schools of thought on how much salt to use. The one I've read most often is the same amount of salt as your oils. So if you used 32 oz of oils, then you would use 32 oz of salt. I've also read that some have cut back on the salt some to like 80% of your oils. So, I guess it's whatever you find your preference to be.

When you say "grainy" do you mean the soap or the salt? As in "gritty"? Yes, you will feel the salt in them, so no worries there.

Salt bars also need to cure as long as regular CP bars do. 4 to 6 weeks. HTH

Are we going to get to see a pic of your bars? We love pics! :)

  3. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I used Pam spray in the rose molds.

LL, thanks for bringing that to my attention. I now recall reading that. I think I will put these in the freezer overnight (if I can make room in there) and see what happens with one of them tomorrow. :)

  4. Here is a pic of my silicone mold and roses.

The small thin rose, top left, was taken out of the mold the day after it was poured. Notice how much was left in the mold (left hand mold cavity). Today, I took one full rose out of the mold, bottom left, and see it's corresponding cavity, right hand side. There is still a bit of the soap left in the one I unmolded today (originally poured mold on Mar. 12, so almost a week). So I'm going to leave the other 2 roses in there about 3 or 4 more days and then check one of them.

I hope this helps you with deciding whether to use a silicone mold or not, cuz it may tie your mold up for a bit.

  5. I'm using soapmaker and I have my discount set at 5%. The lye comes out at 3.82 HTH

I also have pics from using the silicone mold, but don't have them uploaded yet. It's not quite a week in the mold, but I'm giving the other 2 roses (out of 3) another few days. I will be back and post pics so you can decide if you want to try using a silicone one or not.

  6. Noooooooo, I didn't think that was ash, heck I can't even see the salt on top today. Some days my eyes are better than others and it appears today is not one of them, lol.

I'm talking about days from now.... when/if the ash decides to show up. I know sometimes it shows up right away, but sometimes it takes a few days. We all shows pics of our soaps when they're cut and such, but got to thinking on how no one really comes back say about a week after and mentions the ash that may have occurred or how they got rid of it. KWIM?

Sorry Barbara if I'm mucking up your beautiful soap thread. I think I'll go start one about the very topic I'm trying to convey.

  7. Barbara, I figured you CP's them, cuz I did read somewhere that HP'ing them will make them courser. I guess I'm just sitting here thinking about that darned ash (here she is talking about ash again, man she keeps beating that dead horse, lol) and textured tops and how to get it off. If you plane it off then you lose your lovely textured tops.

  8. Yeah Libby, you took the plunge!! Looks like it turned out terrific! I bet you have a million different ideas running through your head for your next batch....fo's...colors.

(Is she addicted yet? Come on, we all know it only takes that first batch :P )

  9. Angel, look at your superfat % again. It should be reading 5% instead of .5% hun.

As far as the silk fibers go, try your first batch without, so you can get a feel for it and then do a batch with it. Not sure if it will hamper anything or not, so the only way to know is to give it a try. But I would do a batch without it first. (Then, send a bar of each to me and I'll get back to you on the results, lol.)

  10. I bet she's stating "vegetable oil" as meaning canola or such. I also hope she has testing documentation since it seems she's making a claim about foot fungus. It's my understanding that you cannot make such claims unless you have the testing results to back that up.

    Anywho.....

(gets a bunch of stickers and sticks them all over ah-soy... they say "This Side Up") :P There's your stickers! ROFL!

Sorry, couldn't resist, I hope you don't take offense. I meant it with all love and devotion :o

  11. I really like the yellow and orange in the jonquil one. And I'll make a note for the purple to use 1/2 tsp when I use it. I remarked on the sparklies in this one as they really showed up in your pic. I'm really looking forward to getting the orange pop and also the green one (I think there's a green one, lol).

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your green lightens up some overnight and that you'll see a green more to your liking tomorrow. :)

  12. Oh wow, how did I miss this one? Sorry to see your second batch turned brown on you, what a shame, cuz the colors were so pretty. But hey, I bet it still smells great!

Your first one turned out terrific, I love the colors. Don't ya just hate when you see the fo sitting on the counter AFTER you've poured and swirled....ugh.
