  1. Welcome Charlotte!!! Do you have any pictures of those. The instructions were great. Might have to give that a try! Dat
  2. It looks like they pour with the mold laying on it's side. You would have to have something to block the open end of the mold. They look really cool. Dat
  3. I use silicone. Easy, cheap and I get it at wallyworld. A little dab on the tab, stick it in, let it set up for an hour or so and you are good to go. Those darn things will not move. Even if I clean out a jar in the oven UPSIDE DOWN. I still have to use pliers to get the tab out. Good Luck Dat
  4. aaahhhhh TY for not being upset with my post. I figured you wanted honest opinions since you asked. I am not a wick expert. I have only used zinc wicks in containers. and luckily my supplier gives great advice. I double wick anything over 3 1/2 wide. It works great. It is not any more difficult than single wicks i my opinion. My customers love the doubles. They swear it gives out "more" scent. I am not convinced, but hey, if it makes them happy then I'll double wick away. All my containers burn down clean nothing left on the jar. Good Luck Dat
  5. I wanna be like you when I grow up! I am just fixing to tackle pillars. That is awesome. Dat
  6. I know I am going against the grain here, but I think you need to wick up. Or wick down and double wick. I don't think that hang up will catch up, it is too far up the sides. It is still an OK burn, but if you want a clean jar you are gonna have done one or the other. HTH...and JMO! Dat
  7. we call it "wash day" Reminds me of the days my great grandmother washed all the clothes and hung them out to dry. House and yard smelled just like that. It was "wash day" at her house every Thursday. Dat
  8. I bought a single electric burner...just like the stove, just 1 burner. At Wally World for $9.00. It is in my craft room and I keep a pan of water on it. Dat
  9. She wants a scent you don't already have? Does she know you don't have a "true" cherry? I would bring her the cherries you do have and let her pick one. Explain to her the time expense involved in testing a new FO. If you do have the time to do the test, then charge a $20 set up fee for finding and testing the new FO. Also, I would not let her smell OOB. The FO can change in the wax and then she might not be happy with the candles. Be assertive. YOU are the candle expert not her. YOU CAN DO THIS. and YES get a contract - ESCPECIALLY between family and friends. And if you get your costs covered in that deposit, if things go sour you are not out the money to buy the supplies. JMO - I have been burned by friends several times. WILL NOT happen to me again. Hope it doesn't happen to you either. Dat
  10. We package ours in the cello type bags that are gussetted on the bottom(having a brain fart and can't remember what they are called....and too damn lazy to get up and go look). But we use those. My DH cuts cardboard that is just larger than the bottom of the 6 votives. I cut the excess off the top. Fold the bags over, hole punch and weave a piece of ribbon through with a hangtag. Cheap and nice... they do have that "handmade look" but that is my look! HTH Dat
  11. Google is a great place to find things. Dat
  12. If you don't want wetspots use a straight parafin with a low melt point instead of one of the preblends. The straight parafin will eventually pull completely away from the glass. Alas, no wet spots. Or ONE big wetspot if you want to be precise. I use a straight parafin and add my own additives. Gives me more control over everything! Ask your customers if they even notice the wetspots or CARE. Most will not have a clue what you are talking about and the rest won't care. In my experience you will never get them to go away and stay away. It is the nature of the beast. Good Luck. Dat
  13. You might want to have the OWNER sign a release of liability too. That way if something happens with the candles that he is "commissioning" you to make to his specifications, he cannot hold you liable. Just a thought Dat
