  1. Thanks Regina, I live in New Hampshire, and making them appears to be fairly simple and straight forward. Do you have a place I could go to learn more about the process?:smiley2:
  2. Make your own incense and sell it as a side to your candles and if so, is it worth the extra work? How do they sell?? TIA :smiley2:
  3. THANKS ...... for all of the suggestions!!! Just FYI, this is the description of the product where I bought them. (C&S): "These unique shells are perfect for candles, soap dishes, bath salts, candy dishes, bowls, or anything that needs a tropical feel. Standard size is oval approx. 4" x 5". These are very consistent in size and shape. Hold approximately 6 oz of wax. We recommend lining the shells with aluminum foil before pouring so that your wax will not leak out of any cracks that may be in the shell. Soap dishes, melts packaging, and fresheners it will be!!! Thanks again...........:smiley2:
  4. I purchased 200 of these shells a month or so ago thinking they were "neat" and after reading fire safety concerns on this board and elsewhere, I have decided not to use them as candles. What does everyone think about using them as air fresheners for bathrooms, closets, dresser drawers, etc. I was thinking about pouring them with "clean" smelling soy with scents like Baby Powder, Heaven, etc. They hold about 4.5 ounces (liquid) of wax and I was thinking about selling them for $4.00 each. I buy my wax locally, so my cost doesn't include the terrible shipping costs. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.........:smiley2:
  5. You can buy fragrance oil at places that sell wood stoves. It is used in just that way and it works really good. You have to keep an eye on the pot that you use though. The oils will get it pretty nasty inside unless you keep it clean after the water evaporates out of it. Put about 1/4 ounce in a standard size kettle about 3/4 full. And WATCH IT......water will evaporate quickly with a hot fire...... I've been using it for years...........HTH
  6. Thank you both very much!!!! Greatly appreciated...........
  7. Thank you Thekla, Im not sure I understand your answer. Do all 6 tarts weigh 2 1/8 ounce including the shell itself? or do the individual tarts weigh 2 1/8 ounce each? Sorry if i am so dumb tonite:(
  8. Do any of you use the "melt clamshell" from Alabaster? If so, can you tell me how much wax each of the individual compartments (6) hold? I just ordered a bunch and I didn't see anything in the specs about it.
  9. My wife got these for me at the dollar store. They clearly say "Freezer Bags" but are probably cheaply made. Anyway, no more!! I just ordered clamshells for both my votives and melts from Alabaster. I will use the ruined melts for wax in my firestarters!! So I guess it wasn't a total loss........ and it was a valuable lesson. Should have listened to you experts in the first place I guess:smiley2:
  10. I know that this has been discussed here before, but I just had to confirm that baggies for storage of wax is a NO-NO!! I poured 48 1oz melts (lilac) about 3 weeks ago and put them in a zip-lock freezer bag and put them in the closet. Today, I remembered they were there and when I opened the bag, I could barely detect any scent at all!!! I am still in my testing stage so I guess you can call it a "lesson learned"
  11. You might want to check with your local government officials. Most states and towns have a "hawkers/vendors License" and in almost ALL cases, you are exempt from these permits if you are selling items that you have made yourself, or grown on your property. If that is in fact the case where you live, you might want to hold off on the permit fees until you see how your first one goes. Just a suggestion........... Hope it goes well for you:smiley2:
  12. I just checked her site and its working fine for me......... Here is her phone: Phone: (603) 926-2277 Hope that helps:tiptoe:
  13. I was doing some "surfing" last night and found this company: http://scentsations4u.com/wholesale2.htm Have any of you ever used their FOs? IF what they are saying is TRUE aren't these prices really good? Being "concentrated" and "undiluted", wouldn't you be able to actually use less of the FO? Or is this just too good to be true:confused:
  14. This thread is really ironic!!! I had a family member ask me if I could use Ferbreeze(sic) in a candle. I said I didn't know but would give it some thought. That was a couple of days ago. Then I read this thread and it got me thinking. Why couldn't you use it as an FO and call it something else altogether? I mean buy a bottle of it and use it straight out of the bottle. Would it mix into the wax like a regular FO? Would it give a decent hot and cold throw? My opinion on the legal aspects of it is that we all use different scents combined together to come up with scents that we "call our own" and sell them that way. I don't see why we can't do the same with ferbreeze and some other scent like "Spring Water" and call it something like "Morning Rain", or "Summer Breeze" or whatever........ Your thoughts????
  15. Thanks CareBear.......... Apperciate the help!!!:smiley2:
  16. When you sell a 1 ounce tart, are you selling it as a tart that was poured with 1 liquid ounce of wax? Or does the tart actually weigh 1 ounce when sold?? I couldn't find an answer using the search. Thanks in advance for the help!!!:smiley2:
  17. Hi CandleCrazy, I can probably help you out with any questions to might have. I sent you an email.
  18. Don't know much about shows but I wuld do the one that appears to be the biggest. As for the store wanting 33% of your sales, I think that is way too high!! I live in New England where everything costs too much and the going rate around here is 20% or less. No way I'd pay 33%............
  19. They are probably made in China with low quality LEAD:wave: Couldn't resist, sorry about your order!!! Hope they will make it right with you..............
  20. How about using liquid poly and pouring it into molds. Just before it starts to set up, put in some glass chips. You could probably find countless shapes of molds to use, and no two pieces would ever come out the same. Another idea would be to use it in "hurricane" style candles. The glass chips would look really nice with the flickering light glowing through them. Just a couple ideas of the top of my head........hope it helps:o
  21. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on C-3 just yet. I am sure that with more testing and with the help of my supplier, who is VERY CLOSE:wink2: , I'm sure we will work out this little problem. I would pay shipping before I would drive 2.5 hrs. I hate traffic because most people overdose on stupid pills before getting behind the wheel!!! Maybe you should look into becoming a supplier your self;) .......... You would always have what you want and you wouldn't have to go far to get it!!!
  22. If all else fails....call the number. I had to do that with a supplier that went out business and didn't answer emails or phones listed on there site. I got through right away and resolved the issue.

  24. Thanks CareBear, I will try that method first thing in the morning. Thanks for the link as well. According to what I read there, it looks like they are a trademark of the wax. C-3 is the only wax I have used(except for V-1) and I really like working with them both. Not to mention that my supplier is 25min away from my front door!!!! With the savings in shipping, I WILL live with Don Ho's "Tiny Bubbles"!!! Thanks again........... Don
  25. I have searched this question but can't come up with a topic that addresses it. My container candles made with C-3 have a whole bunch of tiny bubbles on the outside of the melt pool next to the glass. The candle burns fine otherwise. Is this common to the wax, or am I doing something wrong? It does it on all of the 4 FOs that I am currently using. C-3 heated to 180 transfer to pouring pot and add FO and stir constantly for about 4 minutes. Let cool on its own to about 100 stirring occasionaly during the cool down. Pour slowly when almost slushy. Second pour when needed, also cool. Candles look beautiful and have great hot and cold throw. I do not use dye. Any ideas?
