  1. Thanks, I see your posts frequently and I just have to say that that cat is too cute! Is that a lime on his head? Laura
  2. I am looking at ordering some J223 from DPS/Morris Wax and just noticed that they also carry FO. Has anyone purchased FO from them and if so how were they? Thanks- Laura
  3. Definitely red liquid dye. Just use a small amount. Use a ladle to drop a little melted wax on some wax, let it set up and then you can tell what shade it is. Not dark enough add a little more dye at a time. I like BCN dyes. Laura
  4. Thanks Cetecea, I appreciate all of your advice. It used to be when I started out eight years ago that adding Crisco was pretty standard when using J50. I think I will start with the FO, maybe I will try a different Pumpkin Pie....I already add 1.5 ounces per pound. I really wouldn't want to add more. Plus, you had a good point with curing....I didn't wait very long before I started burning the candle. Thanks Again! Laura
  5. Testing J223, candle came out really nice and is burning really well. In the past when I used J50 I added Crisco to improve throw and wetspots. I am testing with a Pumpkin Pie Spice fragrance, which should be pretty strong, but I don't think it is as strong burning as it could be. I am going to try Crisco, just wondering if anyone else puts Crisco in J223 for throw or wetspots? Does the Crisco make it smoke some? Laura
  6. The first time I tested it I did get pretty bad wet spots. I am currently very frustrated with soy anything so I decided to test it again last night. The candles are completely cooled and NO wet spots! Wahoo! Are you washing your jars, pouring into heated jars and cooling very slowly? Laura
  7. I am testing J223. Just wondering what the opinion is on curing time for this wax is? Thanks- Laura
  8. Not well, real flickery and wild. Kind of smokey. So, I take it a good batch of 6006 doesn't leave slime? Laura
  9. I am testing 6006 right now and it is leaving hang up on the jar, like little areas of wax slime. I have used zinc, CD and now Eco. The CD and Eco smoke some. The flame on the Eco and Zinc bounces around everywhere. The CD flame is nice and steady but once again it smokes. I use 1.5 ounce of scent per pound. Too much? I am fairly certain I have the wick sizes correct. ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, I think maybe I might just go back to J50. That was a good and consistant wax.
  10. Currently looking for a different type of wax to use but when Joy Wax works well here is what I do Type of Soy or Soy Blend you use? Joy Wax Additives if any? none Preferred dyes? Liquid from BC and occassional dye chips Preferred wick (Not sizes)? zinc Pouring temp you recommend? 145-150 What you do to prevent frosting? nothing What you do to prevent rough tops? use heat gun for occassional sink holes Do you do anything to prevent wet spots? warm jars in oven at 170, pour wax very slowly. Tap candles on wood board after they are poured to help air bubbles escape. Cool in box covered by a heavy blanket. After cooling for two-three hours swish wick around in candle to let any air out then touch up with a heat gun and center the wick again. Cover once again.
  11. Tootie- Ordered a slab of GL 70/30 yesterday. I hope I like it! I have read really great things about it. Thanks for the reccomendation! Also, Brenda was really nice to talk to. Laura
  12. That is interesting about the MP123. Hmmmmm, they have a WOW wax now, what do you suppose that is? Also, I can't help but wonder if these special candle wax formulations that some companies have are really just whatever we could buy from IGI, Cargill, whoever and just renamed for the company. There are just so many wax choices, too many in my opinion.....it is very confusing!
  13. I used Joy Wax for several years, before that I used the J50. I loved Joy Wax and still would if I could count on it always being the same. It clings nicely to the jars, smells great and burns very well. I do get some jar hang up with the intial couple of burns but it normally goes away as the candle burns down. Laura
  14. Great idea Carole, I think I will test a slab as well. Do you get many wet spots with the 6006? Laura
  15. I got my 6006 sample from DPX/Morris Wax in KC. I found this wax place online somehow and that is all they do is sell many types of wax. The man I have been speaking with is Gary and he is really nice and knows his stuff. He spoke very highly of 6006 and said that is one of his best sellers. He qouted me a price of around 58.00 a case for 10 cases. Plus he is close to me so shipping is very reasonable. I made my first candles with it in a 16 ounce mason jar....one with a zinc wick and one with a CD wick. The candles smell really good(I used a NG Pumpkin Pie Spice) but there were quite a few wet spots...thought I would try to pour a little cooler to see if that helps. I poured at 180 with those two candles. I do preheat my jars. The zinc wick is working out better then the CD but I don't love it. I get smoking with the CD wicks in both the Joy Wax and the 6006. I also tried J223 with the CD and didn't like it there either. I am waiting on ECO wicks to try those. Maybe too much information but I thought I would share. Laura
  16. DUH!!!! I was doing my search wrong. Just figured it out. Now I am on tracK....I see the many 6006 posts. So, really maybe I should just stick with the Joy Wax! Looks like the 6006 has had as many problems. Laura
  17. Thanks Tootie for recommending this sight! I read enough on here today to make my decision firm about not purchasing Joy Wax. I was so relieved to read about others that have had the same problem and concerns that I had with Joy Wax. NG did replace my wax but I know if I get another bad batch they will not replace it again. Anyway, so here it is September and I am scrambling around trying to find a different wax to use and as you know it is just not that easy. I was also looking at getting new jars from the Jar Store so whatever wax I end up with needs to work in the Metro Jar. I searched IGI 6006 and 6006 on here before I posted and just didn't find that much information about it. Thanks again for the tip on this message board! Laura
  18. Hello- I have been using Joy Wax for several years now. Recently I had problems with Joy wax so I will not use it anymore. I am now testing IGI 6006. The cold and hot throw seems really good, having trouble finding the right wick but am waiting now to receive ECO wicks to try. Anyone else use IGI 6006 and have any input on it? For those that have had problems with Joy Wax, may I ask what you switched to? I think I would like stick with a soy/para blend. Thanks- Laura
