  1. What about the small zip lock clear bags? I got some from www.thecandlesource.com and they work perfect for putting just one tart in. Then I just label the baggie or place them with that particular scent that I have. if you aren't sure of size you can email and ask them as I'm not sure what size they are off hand either.
  2. Really nervous about an upcoming craft fair on the 27th. Am getting inventory and such ready and making my price sheets, etc. I have read the link above on craft fairs and taken notes, but are there any suggestions anyone would like to throw out for this time of year? Any scents you suggest taking? i feel I have a wide variety of fragrances but I'm sure they'll want something I don't have. The event is at a church so I won't be taking my candles that are already labeled Sex on the beach, etc because that wouldn't appear to be appropriate. Any other suggestions? it is a one day five hour event/fundraiser for the church. The church is having a BBQ and then the craft items. I DO NOT have to share my proceeds, etc with the church. The crafters are just there to draw more of the public as well. Would also like to know how you add height when you don't have shelving right now. Anyway, I'd appreciate anything anyone wants to throw out to help me. I've also done the following to prepare 1. made a price list 2. labeled all inventory and taken an inventory list 3. bought a nice table cloth cover at a yard sale (it's white though so that may be a problem) 4. bought a change/fanny pack Anything else......?????????advise?????????TIA
  3. Hello everyone. Someone has contacted me wanting to do a fundraiser for project graduation. I don't have printed up fundraiser forms. How do you guys handle your fundraisers? Do you have preprinted forms? Do you order your forms from somewhere? if so where? Do you print them yourself? What materials do you give the customer when it comes to fundraisers? i have done one small fundraiser for an individual and I just printed from my home computer but that looked a little on the cheap side but she said that was ok cus she was selling only to family/friends. What do you guys do and what are your suggestions? Please help. Thanks.
  4. New to gel using I have a few questions for those of you who have already used this for a while. I bought some pie molds from van yulay that allow me to make inserts (fruit) to put inside of a 5 inch pie crust. This allows for a faster way (for me) to make pies than having to use a lot of individual fruit, etc. Well, after the pie crust is made and the insert (I have made cherry, blueberry and peach), I put the insert into the pie crust. To make it look more realistic I want to add a little gel ontop. NOT SCENTED gel just regular melted gel enough to make it look more realistic. My question involves my oils. According to my suppliers website it says that the cherry and blueberry oils are not gel safe. Could I still use the gel ontop the inserts if I'm not actually putting the fo into the gel and not using much gel to start with? I AM NOT scenting the gel just pouring it over the pie for a glosssy and realistic looking finish. Before I did pour anything though, I wanted to ask those who had experience with this type of thing as to not have too much to worry about although I do intend to still test burn. Would this cause a problem with my inserts, etc or would it just be a matter of test and see? Any advise/help would greatly be appreciated and I hope I have explained my situation and question well enough for everyone. TIA.
  5. I may be stupid, but then again, I have never messed with silicone molds. I am giving it a try. I ordered some molds for pie candle toppings from van yulay. They seem perfect. I also ordered one that is suppose to look like a log. I understand that the bottom of a mold is the top when you flip it out. So my question is, how do you wick the candle? This question is for those of you who use these molds. How do you wick these candles yet save your molds for longtime usage? Any advise appreciated and I'm sorry if this sounds ignorant, but I just don't know honestly. TIA
  6. Can someone tell me how to make 3 inch pies and 5 inch pies? I have tins for them and have wicks that work (I have made a few using a wax topper) but I don't think they look well.....fruity enough I guess. I want a "fruit pie" look. I have only used the heart wax topper and the small tins. I use parasoy container wax for these. I pour in the tin and then put the crust topper on. When wax cools some I put my berries (cherries, blueberries) in the top of the crust cutout. I bought some gel wax but have never tinkered with it. Can anyone tell me what to do to make these realistic looking? Do you have to use gel wax or does parafin work as well? Which do you guys use and your technique? What is your going price for these? How do you package them. Thanks in advance and sorry for so many questions. Please feel free to ask me to clarify anything if the above is confusing (sorry....it's midnight here and I am a little tired lol). Thanks.
  7. Did you write this yourself or is it from a webpage? I think I saw parts of this on the net somewhere. Maybe you just set it up in the same manner but being what was drilled into me in college over paraphrasing, etc...I am questioning how it is written. Either you have excellent writing skills or you used words, design or ideas that you found on the net. Not saying this is wrong as far as design wise of how you word it on your website, but just make sure that you are "legal" with how you put things and/or site sources.
  8. Calling everyone from the south.....what are your best sellers? I'm in TX and would like to get a large inventory of best sellers for the southern region before Christmas. Mine so far are love spell, vanilla, leather and butt Naked. Any other suggestions?
  9. On the website for BCS it says that the fragrances are NOT the same. I use their scents though as they are in my general locality and are cheaper for shipping. Anyway, I have used homespun sugar and jack frost. I find though that jack frost seems to be a REALLY strong peppermint. I cannot detect much of the vanilla in it. But, it still has a good throw. the homespun sugar is a more delicate scent. I only made a few candles out of it, but the ones I did make smell alright. I'm not fond on that smell so.........I guess I can't offer an opinion that's not one sided lol. Anyway, have you considered buying a small size first and seeing if you like it or will shipping eat your pocketbook?
  10. What CD wick would you ladies/gents suggest for use with IGI 6006 in an 8 oz JJ and a 16 oz JJ? I thought I would try and start with a 12 on the 8 ounce and 18 on the 16 oz. What do you think? any advise?
  11. UPDATE: I tried rubbing alcohol, mr. clean magic eraser, WD-40, bleach and tuff stuff and well.......NO LUCK!!! I've heard that lighter fluid or comet may take it off, but wouldn't that hurt the linoleum. Anyone know?
  12. HELP PLEASE....somehow, someway, red liquid candle dye was tracked in my kitchen on the linoleum. I have my suspicions. But, anyway, anyone know how to remove it? It's liquid dye from the candle source and I've tried everything I can think of including bleach. Help me please if you know anything that could get it up. We are thinking of selling our house so this is the last thing we need....sigh:angry2:
  13. From everyone's experience...what is the way you wrap your votives? Do you shrink wrap them? box them? or place plastic cello around them? How do you wrap your votives? Also how do you package your tealight candles? I'm getting a new customer going to buy wholesale (not the one I mentioned previously but another one) and they want tea lights and votives but I'm not sure how to package them so they look professional. TIA.
  14. Can someone tell me where to find plastic tea light packaging boxes? Also, the ones for votives. I have tried the bag route and it doesn't fit the route that I need for my individual look. I am looking for the following if anyone can help as well: Pie tins for pie candles anything Rustic---lids, tins, etc plastic bag supplier Thanks to everyone in advance.
  15. Ok, I know it's suggested that you retail for 3 times your cost and wholesale for twice your cost. Well when I figured up my 8 ounce jelly jar costs (everything included including time, ink, wax, utilities, etc) it came up to 3.04 per 8 ounce candle. NORMALLY that would be just fine as I sell my candles now for 8.00 but am thinking of going to around 8.95. Anyway, this guy that wants to buy wholesale from me is saying that he does his things different than most. Whatever he pays for something he doubles it and that is what he charges the customer retail. Ok so this would mean that my candles SHOULD normally retail at 9.12 and wholesale at 6.08. HOWEVER, if this guy doubles everything then it means that he'd be retailing my candles for 12.16. BUT he says he won't sell for more than what I sell on the website for. This means, I won't be able to wholesale to him for more than 4.50. I wouldn't be making hardly anything off the sale then. At least not enough to make another candle with. So, what should I do? Should I go up on my prices to make up for the difference. This guy has a wonderful business and I will be his only candle supplier. He goes all over the US to shows, etc with his products/furniture and will take my stuff too. This is a great opportunity to get my business name out there. I want to make him happy but want to make some money. Any suggestions? I am thinking I may have to raise prices.
  16. Tickled me Pink—A super sweet strawberry with notes of green apple and white flowers of ylang, jasmine, gardenia and muguet with a hint of fresh peach add a feminine softness to this fabulous scent. fabulous scent that girls of all ages will LOVE!!!
  17. She chose those scents as a starting point to let me know what she was interested in. I gave her my best sellers and she picked a few from them as well. We are working on shortening the list as she has agreed to that. I just simply stated that it may be overwhelming to customers to choose if there are more than 10-12 choices. For the most part, I gave her my suggestions and we are working together to come up with what fits both of us. See, this is NOT only for my area but she will also be selling to other friends and family members out of state, etc. She will be the responsible one for delievering the candles no matter where she sells them to. Thus, she wanted scents that her family, etc were into. I advised her though that this is an option but if selling to others, she may want to consider a variety as well. Seems to work.
  18. Can someone tell me what wick they'd suggest for use on a 16 ounce JJ using a parafin/soy combo container wax? I was using a zinc wick but was told that zinc can fizzle out and literally stop burning at any point just like poof and it won't burn if the candle contains soy. Is this so? I was thinking of trying a cd wick. Anyone suggest size...an 18 maybe? Not to familiar with the larger wicks and different type wicks I normally use a zinc on my 8 ounce JJ and have had no problems but was also told to switch to a cd 12 on that. Any suggestion? TIA.
  19. This is the first time I've used this wax and it's all parrafin (spelling? ) based. It is sooooooooo hard. How do you ladies cut this stuff or get it into pieces to melt in a double boiler? I just scraped it and used shavings to get what what little amount I needed yesterday but darn it's hard. LOL can you tell I normally use a parasoy blend and softer wax.....new to the harder wax please help.
  20. I have a lady wanting to sell my candles for a fundraiser to raise money to help pay for her sister's headstone. We have already agreed upon and discussed the process and the price. I wanted her to do it via order format where she takes the orders and then gives me the amount per candle that we agreed upon and she keeps the rest. She choose some scents from my inventory and wants to use those for her sale. Personally I feel she has too many and too many of them are fruity and bakery scents. I don't think she has enough variety. Can I get any opinions please. Here is what she wants to offer for order from me: baked apple pie banana nut breat Grandma's Kitchen sugar cookie candy corn candycane cinnamon surprise pumpkin pie wedding cake green apple peaches and cream blueberry buckle april fresh downy sex on the beach sweet dreams tickled me pink fresh strawberry cucumber melon birds of paradise Here is what I was thinking of offering: Cut the list to about 10-14 at most. Offer bakery, vanilla's, holiday scent, and fruit scents as well as a floral or two. I think she needs a few vanilla scents and some floral scents in order to have a round selection for everyone. Personally, I like vanilla so I would not buy any of these scents. What if there is someone else like me out there? Can anyone help? i'd greatly appreciate it. Any advice or comments/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  21. Hi everyone. Does anyone know where I can find rustic candle holders and candle supplies? If so please let me know. I'm looking for like wooden candle holders and that such thing. TIA
  22. I use a 50/50 parafin and soy mix for containers. I use parafin for tarts and votives
  23. So if you use propay and enter numbers at night do you just take the info down and run it manually on "real" cc paper? How do you do that?
  24. Can someone give me some info on how propay works? I checked the site but I'm still curious how it works when you are at say a craft show? I don't have a lap top and i only have a cingular phone. Where do you buy the signature swippers that are portable to use w/propay and do you have to have one?
  25. Does anyone know how to make or where to get wax sprinkles that look like the candy sprinkles that you put ontop a cake or cupcakes? I'm wanting to put those on my candles but not sure where to get them. Would the ones from the grocery store work too? TIA
