Thanks! I've been going back and forth for 10 years now on which wax I want to use for shapes, candles and clams. KY para/soy is probably the best for all three of those but I hate the cure time due to soy. UGH!!! What to do! Oh well, I have a hard time making my mind up on just about anything so why should this be any different LOL! I just don't want to have to buy 3 or 4 different waxes and I keep reading where paraffin has the stronger throw but to be honest with you I've not been able to tell a difference between all paraffin and the para/soy mix. Could just be me though.

I am the same way Girl! LOL
I used paraffin for the longest and have been testing soy for a few years now and while I appreciate the almost instant & intense throw with paraffin...I absolutely LOVE the rich creaminess (especially in bakery scents) and longevity of soy. Personally I don't need a tart to last for days but it's nice to see that it can.

Lizzy, what wax do you use now if you don't use pillar of bliss anymore? Do you find that all paraffin throws better than a para/soy blend? Thanks!

I love the smell of pillar of bliss as well as KY wax and 650 from Flaming LOL! I know that sounds weird but it smells so good to me out of the bag.

I stopped POB a while back. Switched to an all paraffin blend which was then discontinued. Now I blend my own.

I think the initial throw with all paraffin is a little better but it tends to taper off fairly fast. Also depends on warmer used. The hotter the warmer the faster it goes. IMO

Hey everyone! Does anyone know what happened to Pillar of Bliss Wax? I don't see it on Nature's Garden's site anymore and I haven't had any luck findng it online.

It's most likely OOS at the moment. They remove the listing when something is OOS instead of marking it OOS.

  4. Just wanted to pop in on this....

I finally got around to playing with this wax and I like it. I use 8-9% FO load and it's been doing very well. I find it a little "crumbly" on it's own so I also added 20% of another wax and it's even better now! No crumbling, nice snap...in clamshells.

Just wish it was available elsewhere. That being said...does anyone if the TW31 from VCS is the same?

  5. I'm the odd one out...lol...I absolutely HATE C3! I much prefer 464 even with it's inconsistencies, I have had good results.
Nowadays the inconsistensies are pretty much in every batch so testing every new case(s) is a must even if it's just a couple of scents to see if the batch performs similiar to the last batch.

I am now test blending 464 with 6006 and it's been good. 6006 by itself was great as far as throw but the wetspots did me in. I used a preblend (paraffin) before and it was proprietary and I got burned by the supplier when they out of the blue discontinued it on me....twice! So now I use what's available pretty much everywhere. Lesson learned....the hard way.

Like Nightlight said...get samples. Pour testers and make/take lots of notes. Find what suits you and your wants/needs. There's many great waxes out there.

  6. you ain't lying!! ROFL

I just dug out my old wooden soap molds and was gonna list them on Ebay but something stirred inside of me and I am now on the hunt for my old recipes which should be in one of my many, many notebooks.

  7. They are just like any other FO supplier. Hit and miss. Depends on your applications. I know of a lot of soapers who love their oils.

I've tried a few in wax and liked them enough to order larger bottles. HTH :)

I feel ya. My wax was out of stock from 3/30 until 5/13. I can't work like that. I considered ordering something, anything just so I could carry on, but I was afraid anything I chose would be wonky and I'd spend half a case retesting. I swear, it didn't used to be like this.

My main supplier has been out of wax since October 2021 with no ETA on when it might be back in stock. I am now forced to find another since I am on my last 10 lbs of it. I'm over it. I can't find a paraffin or even Para Soy that I like and is consistent. Tried Para Coco and that's a big fat no for me. OVER IT.

I love those same type of scents too as well as Colonial/Primitive decor!

Have you tried Pilgrims Pie from NG? It's a really good primitive type scent. Their clove is also the best I've ever tried.

forgot to mention....their Nutmeg is outstanding too ;) I make myself a couple of Pillars with it every year.

I don't have any left, but seems like it was heavy on the spice side. Candlescience's is totally different. It actually reminds me of Pumpkin Pecan Waffle although the scent description doesn't mention maple or pecan; instead honey and butter along with cinnamon and vanilla. It is a sweeter scent.

I forgot to mention Apple Maple Bourbon from VA candle. I like it; no spice though. I smell apple and maple.

I noticed the same thing about CS's Snickerdoodle! I thought it was just me and my nose...LOL
Is their Apple Maple Bourbon the same as CS's? I love CS's so much!

I first ordered from Virginia Candle Supply in Dec 2020. I've been mostly pleased with their FO's. For fall, I like Spiced Pumpkin Cider. My favorite so far though is not a bakery/fall scent, Black Chamomile. It is really unique, nothing like plain Chamomile.

Some of my customers like their Flannel. Snickerdoodle is OK, but I'm in love with CS's Snickerdoodle.

Oh I'll have to add the Spiced Pumpkin Cider to my cart. That sounds right up my alley! Is their Snickerdoodle on the spice side or sweet side? Or balanced? I currently use CW's Snickerdoodle and it's heavy on the spice side.

  12. Seems like they pop up overnight. One that I hear a lot about is Midwest but they only offer what everyone else (my main suppliers) already offer soooooo......nah.
I did start testing from NYS and MS last year and have had good luck. They both offer more unique scents that interest me.
I miss Heaven Scent too!! I still have 8oz of her Raspberry Brulee. It is soooooo good still after all this time! LOL

@Lizzy what wax do you use now? I have read that parasoy tends to have more wet spots, so maybe that's just unavoidable when using 6006? As far as a too-tight wick causing the crack, I'm not even using wicks yet! lmao I'm just trying to get a decent pour & cure so I can do wickless wick testing. Most of what I"m seeing says this particular circular crack is that the candle is cooling unevenly, so I have to work that out... somehow... *sigh*

Ohhhhhh well hot dawg! Good luck with that!

I switched to another parasoy for Jars. One that has more soy than 6006. Pro Blend 600 from TFC. It's got great adhesion, throw is fabulous at 8-9% even after a short 3-5 day cure, it burns beautifully and looks great . It's (mostly) a one pour with the occasional sinkhole near the wick.

6006 is a great wax but I can't get past the "dollar store candle look" with it's wet spots. *shudder*

No more fugly tops now, just, ya know, that fucking crack. 🤬

I had to laugh at this ....lol...because I know that frustration so well....although for me it's 6006 and wetspots. I tried everything but in the end I switched waxes to save what little brain matter I had left.

One thing I noticed when using waxes that are straight soy or mostly soy is that if I keep the wick too tight in it's holder I tend to get a crack near the wick. This happened with 444, C6 (coco soy) and C3 as well.

If all fails - just switch waxes. There's better waxes out there.
