  1. What a GREAT goal!!! I think people miss a lot these days not being able to MAKE things... there is a satisfaction and personal sense of pride to handcrafting things that's hard to get any other way! :)

    Stella,

I love hand crafted items! it means so much more from the heart!

I am relying on God on this mission! :D I would love to get a warehouse and hire enough people to hand make everything to MY specifications. the only machinery that will be used is for printing (labels and such), phone, etc.

and PRESTO POTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D (of course) oh and sewing machines for the scented fabric products. (hate to hand sew)

  2. Well, yeah... depending on how massive you mean by "mass produced"... Actually, I hope no one can MASSIVELY produce these candles because not everything SHOULD be mass-produced! I hope that these remain a hand-made item forever! I would rather futz over a beautiful handmade candle that one can only get from a candlemaker than to see these in the grocery stores or god forbid, WalMart. Nearly ALL the pillars we make are palm wax and require just as much "futzing," but we can crank them out at a rate that's reasonable to me... I dunno if this would work with automated machinery (I HOPE not), but once you get your system down, it is not difficult to make many in one day.

Stella I would never use machinery mass producing with my palm wax! heck no! If I have to hire more hands to pour then I will! :D

I strive for that "made by hands" and not machinery method!

If I ever get to the point of a warehouse, I still would have all of my candles, and other products, hand-poured, hand-made and not by machines! We have so many people that have been laid off their jobs and I would love to be able to hire jobless people..........one of these days! That is one of my goals for my business too!

  3. Everyone has given you their recommendations and mine don't differ - just wanted to tell you that you are not the only person who has ever poured the wrong wax... When I did it, I ORDERED the wrong wax and was 5 minutes away from calling the supplier and getting all fussy about it... lo and behold, the mistake was mine and at least I didn't make a fool out of myself to others...:undecided:tongue2: Sometimes, "mistakes" turn out well because you have the opportunity to find out what WOULD happen if you burned it just as it is... who knows - maybe it'll work out better than you had ever dreamed! One thing is for sure: it's not gonna explode, so if/when you test it, just be sure to put it in a flat bottomed bowl in case it decides to blow out or slump into a mess.:)

that is why I am using the tealight plug for my pillars! :laugh2: I am so tired of test burning wax! don't get me wrong but my containers have wore me out of test burning! :D I don't want to deal with blow outs or a mess!

I am in the stages of creating my Christmas line candles and I mixed a few FO's together and it turned out better than my expectations, I tested it today and it passed every test feature I look for! Full melt pool within the time limit and the hot throw was awesome! I was worried about it cause it smells light in the cold throw but now I can't get it away from my son! LOL

Oh and I named the fragrance "Sparkling Snowflakes" (I hope that name isn't being used anywhere!:undecided )

  4. Peace, Grama - I am not trying to start an argument with you or anyone, I only wished to address the questions Jenn had and the solutions I have found (and that those with more knowledge than I possess have recommended) and to also let her know that she is not the only person who has these problems. :lipsrseal

I am backing Stella up cause what she says is right! I have encountered all of these problems and have took her advice and now my candles are wonderful! If you work out the problems with this type of wax, you can acheive beautiful results and yes I mass produce my palm wax candles, not on a large scale yet, but getting there!

Now one thing I do, to relieve air pockets is, a re-pour. When it looks kinda of slushy, I take my skewer stick I poke away and tap the jar to release the air bubbles. I even watch for them to come to the surface. I keep just enough melted wax on hand to fill the top. It may seem like a lot of work but my customers feedback is excellent!

I use a metal cooling rack with legs and a styrofoam cooler, and have had no problems with the crystalization (which isn't a big concern for me)!

I had thought of using a cheap heating pad to set the jars on to keep them warm but haven't the nerve to try it! :D maybe one day I will! My hubby went balistic when I mentioned it about the one we got now so I just dropped it! (Men!:rolleyes2 ) We did pay a pretty penny for it!

So just take all of the advice that is posted here and USE it, and work with it! What may work for some, may not work for others, but you won't know until you try it! HTH

  5. Just By Nature (JBN) and Wellington have a freebie program... You have to really read the websites though - on some you have to do one thing and on another, something else has to be done... In any case, if you don't ask, they usually don't give ya one, so be sure to read the instructions! ;)

*...will jump through hoops for freebies...*

Me too!!!!!!!!!!!! is there a freebie anonymous group?????

  6. labels look good! I love the font you used! can you share the name of the font?:D

That is why I went with "gourmet"! An Epicurean of fine products and tastes! :D plus I want to be totally different than everyone else!

AND thinking of changing my hang tags! hate the sticky labels but that gold stretchy cord is expensive!!!!!! :undecided

  7. I have seen these candles in stores across the country. Just the average kind of candle one would buy while grocery shopping. They come in various sizes and colors and have a pretty little "coin" tied on. Jante is the company. I thought it would be a good idea to buy one and see how an "average" candle burns. We all worry so much about our melt pools and how our candles burn....guess they didn't test this one. (smile)

It has had three, three hour burns. It is tunneling like crazy and getting a bulge. Just found this to be interesting.

Now....I have bought more expensive candles and they burn much better....but again.....this is what is on the shelves for the general public. Donita Louise

yes I do feel so much better looking at that pic! My very very first candles didn't test burn that ugly and bad! I am so glad I beat myself up making the best candles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

  8. I know that is not funny! :laugh2: but I couldn't contain myself!!!!!!!!! My imagination is overkill today! and I got the giggles!

I hope you are not hurt by that!

with me I would save it, unless the wax got dirty or messed up when it exploded. magenta is a lovely nice color!

I try to save everything but when you can't ............you just can't! HTH

  9. yep I have melted tapers, pillars etc. You have to be careful though, the wicks are in there but I pull them out! as soon as I can!

As a matter of fact, I have over 200 tapers, (melted by now in the heat of the sunroom) that I plan on melting for campfire/fireplace firestarters. Hey, I don't want to use my precious palm wax! :laugh2: I am gonna open my wicker chest when the weather gets a little cooler so they will harden back up! :D Tapers can be broken so you can get the wicks out!

    HTH
