  1. I'm afraid that I don't have time to read through 11 pages, but doesn't Pourette say they're moving and will be back in business in 2 months? It's on their page. They have a mold I REALLY want that doesn't seem to be offered by anyone else. If it wasn't for my husband in surgery for his knee at this moment, I'd be happy to read through the entire 11 pages. Probably I've pointed out something someone already said. Kelly
  2. We almost bought a house between Red Bluff and Cottonwood, but then opted for Bella Vista instead. Oddly, I hadn't realized it but I'd placed an order with Let it Shine before this discussion came up. None of it was wax, but I'll see where it ships out of when I get it.
  3. Thanks Callybug! You're probably not that far from me... I'm in Redding.
  4. I keep reading that the repour needs to be at a higher temperature than the original pour, but why does it matter what the original pour temp was if the repour isn't done until the candle is cool? Shouldn't there just be an optimum temperature for the repour? Kelly
  5. Does anyone know who carries the best version of this? I wish the Fragrance Oil site let people rate the fragrances! Thanks, Kelly
  6. If you're running a business, you gotta know you're going to have to give out your SSN periodically if you don't have an EIN. It's no great surprise. We here in CA don't need an EIN unless we're going to have employees, but I didn't relish giving out my SSN either. Hense, the EIN. It's fast and free. Kelly
  7. Well, I looked that up. It looks like you melt the wax slowly, possibly IN water over a double boiler (or in the oven), then when it cools and hardens, the impurities are left in the water and then you repeat until the wax is clean. It's something along those lines.
  8. Thank you! I'm really low on dyes altogether, so I'll head over in that direction. I wanted to wait to see what I was going to use the most of before I overstocked. Thanks again! Kelly
  9. Sheesh. I'm always missing the fact that there's a second page! Talk about a day late and a dollar short!
  10. I gotta vote #1. I like the simplicity.
  11. I contacted a local apiary (could probably contact several more but they aren't exactly easy to find.) This one sells unfiltered wax for $2.50/pound and I pick it up myself. Is this likely to be the best deal I'll get? I've seen some godawful prices for beeswax. Kelly
  12. We just got ours at Lowe's, so check the paint section of any hardware store. Mine came with a bunch of handy wax scraping tools.
  13. Okay... Hour 4 (and last picture.) I've gone ahead and blown it out now and will resume testing tomorrow. It's definitely fugly! I've seen them suggested as spell candles (for bringing things together) but honestly, it's too big and unweildy for that. It'd probably be best left as decoration. There's probably something that can be sprayed on it so the black doesn't transfer over.
  14. Thanks guys! I think Washington is a whole different world when it comes to the mail, but I can actually drive down to Sacramento to pick up wax and save the shipping. It's a few hours, but not that bad.
  15. Here's hour 3 for me... no sign of them going out, but it's definitely one candle now. I wouldn't want to try taking it off the candle holder. (Edited: There's also a funny warty thing that popped up on the black side. It doesn't seem to be getting any bigger though.) I don't know what an LX wick is unfortunately. I'd say you might be needing to wick up though, rather than down. Hopefully someone else will know. (I swear I won't post a blow by blow of every candle I make )
  16. This is at just over 2 hours. The white one is creeping toward the edge and starting to warp, so it's definitely best to keep the halves pushed together... It'll start mixing here real quick. I lighted the black side about 5-10 minutes after the white. (Obviously I didn't go out of my way to trim the candle carefully.)
  17. Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. This is definitely a thread to put in my notebook. Mandy, I haven't gotten as far as a burn test yet on these... so for you (starting at 4:10pm): I use the Yaley's medium-sized flat braid. Kelly
  18. Okay, I'm trying to figure out the best place to buy wax. I appear to live in a standalone zone with Yaley's, so even GenWax is in Zone 2 from me. Cierra Candles (Nevada) is also in Zone 2. Is any one of them better than the next? Are there other better places to consider? I'm in the far north of California, but even three hours across the mountains to the coast is Zone 2. Kelly
  19. The dye amount I use has been inched up through numerous tests. I went through the redi-glo chips before trying the liquid. I'll definitely be going the powder route next time. This is the first time I didn't use Vybar at the beginning, because I was reading about additives and it seemed like the Vybar was used only to hold scent. Since the candle wasn't scented, I figured it was a waste --I'd just been using it out of habit.
  20. It finally worked! I poured at 190* and put the candle in a water bath to cool. I have to admit I added a black reddi-glo diamond to the mix, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. This was a pound and a half of wax. With that many re-heats, I'd think that any extras in the black liquid die would have burned off. I made either 3 or 4 attempts with the same batch. Thanks guys! Kelly
  21. I thought there was a supplier in the bay area, but haven't figured out who they are. The shipping costs just make me cringe.
  22. Oh Donita, I have no doubt! I'll definitely wrap the two halves seperately. I definitely don't want a mottled look. And I really CAN do this. I'll remelt again. I do do a lot of tapping, I don't know. Maybe something happened with this batch and I should start from scratch.
  23. Oh, and I wrapped it up in a towel so it would cool slowly.
