  1. You can always write the artist for permission. The worst he can do is say no! He might say yes! Some people are very generous if you just ask first. By the way, it doesn't have to say it's copyrighted to be copyrighted. It doesn't matter if that's written at the bottom of the page. Kelly
  2. If they've cooled long enough, you can roll most molds between your hands a bit firmly, and it loosens the candles enough to just slide out. I've had a couple really tough votives that I finally put in the fridge for a few minutes though. Kelly
  3. Well, I went ahead and wrote them to ask if I could exchange it. (Maybe I should've sent them the picture, too.) And yes, it is a complete pain in the rear!
  4. They just smoosh down --no liquid. It looked fine until I lit it. After it had been burning for a couple hours they popped up. I've never had that happen before. I used 1 oz of Cucumber/Melon to 1 pound of wax.
  5. It occurred to me you couldn't see the bubbles in the above photo!
  6. How common is this, and can I just exchange the mold without a fuss? This one was from Cierra Candles. I'd thought at first maybe it was the wick, but the two candles have different wicks and that apparently isn't the problem. I also have no idea how I'd fix something like this. Maybe drill another hole 1/8th of an inch to the right? (and yes, I realize there are other problems with these candles than just the position of the wick.) (Actually, if someone can tell me why the green one bubbled up, that'd be great. It has 3 dye chips in it, and I thought that might be it --smells good though!) I'd appreciate it! Kelly
  7. If you have SSL and a merchant account, I'd probably dump the PayPal unless you're really making enough to be worth the chunk they take out of every PP payment. I know that when I order stuff, I love to pay via PayPal, but it doesn't bother me to use my CC.
  8. Thanks Kelly! I actually hadn't realized how short they were. I had visions of a pint sized mason jar, and trying to adhere the wick to the bottom with a skewer and dollop of hot wax.
  9. Thanks so much Pam! I tried to create a Pomegranate color to go with the scent. For these candles I used the pillar blend from Cierra Candles, but I'm considering trying Yaley's, due to the fact that I don't have to pay any shipping.
  10. I thought Dollar Tree was where recalls ended up. LOL! When I can get unscented candles there for about 50 cents a pound, I buy them up to remelt. Incidentally, how would you stick the wick to the bottom of a mason jar? I can imagine a life-threatening situation (for my husband) following an attempt to do that, but then I've never made jar candles before. Kelly
  11. Yeah, I have larger wicks because I was going to be working with soy. I'll wick down. I'm one of those people who burns candles for forever! Never thought about it.
  12. Oh... that thing on the right that looks like it could be a drip is actually the seam. I didn't bother cleaning that off since I'm just testing anyhow. I should add that the white one had only burned for a couple of hours before escaping.
  13. The wick definitely needs to be trimmed. It's still burning away without dripping or anything. Wouldn't it be a huge waste to burn the candle for just 2 hours and toss it out? Or do you mean 2 hours at a time? This one has now been burning for close to 5 hours and is 6 inches tall. I also added a picture of the store-bought candle that died. I don't think there's a draft in here --I was probably breathing on it while I took the picture. I'm using the Medium Flat Braid from Yaley's (which is right across town, incidentally.) I was trying to make soy candles and completely gave up. They're just a pain in the arse, so I took a break to make some of these tall pillars instead. Thanks! Kelly
  14. Greetings, I think this is actually my first post! But I've been reading for a while. I'm testing a new candle, 2" wide by 6.5" high. I'm not sure how they're supposed to burn actually. I purchased a candle of this size and shape and it burned down about an inch before a hole opened up in the side and the liquid wax made its escape (all over the place.) In this photo, my handmade candle has been burning for two hours. I'm just wondering how they're supposed to burn when they burn properly. Thanks! Kelly
  15. I wanted to get their "spool candle" mold, but that's evidently not going to be for a while. I don't think anyone else even sells them.
