  1. I have ordered the 4045H wax and forgot to order wicks. I think I read where flat braid and square braid are ones to use. I am placing an order with Peaks today so thought I could get the wicks there. I noticed that on the square braid they have a 1 square (3-4” diameter paraffin pillars) and a 1/0 square (3-4" diameter pillars). What types of wicks are better for 4045H wax? I can order both flat braid and square braid but not sure about the 1 square and 1/0 square. Right now I am only going to make 3” pillars. TIA.

  2. I have seen pictures of 3 different heights of candles that look really nice as a set.. I am getting ready to order some 4045H and molds. For those of you who make a trio set of candles in different sizes, would you mind sharing what size of molds you use? I noticed on Candle Wic's site that they have a 3 x 4.5, 3 x 6.5 and 3 x 9.5 molds. Do you think these sizes would make a good set? This will be my first time making any type of pillar and testing. Thanks.

  3. Connie,

I was just talking with Herb who runs the Alabaster warehouse in Louisville, KY about my order and while I had him on the telephone I asked him if there was a problem with the cart and he said not as he knows because he has been pulling orders off all morning. He suggested that if you have not found out anything yet about the shopping cart that you go over to The Scent Review board which is ran by Alabaster and post a note to Joe who is Alabaster's web guy and maybe Joe will know something. Good luck.

  4. I was finding that the wicks would not stick so I fill my dishwasher up with jars and run it thru the rinse cycle. I think this is faster then wiping each individual jar because I can be doing something else while they are in the dishwasher. I think I get about 50 jars in there at one time. I know I may be using too much water but it works. When I put them back in the boxes I turn them upside down so dirt or dust doesn't get in them.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. We are not having our dinner until 6:00 tonight so thought I would test the new KY115. I need help. I melted 1# 4 oz. of KY 125 and 1# 4 oz. of KY 115 in my presto to 175. After pouring it over into my pouring pot it weighed less. So I’m thinking I know for sure I weighed the 115 correctly but could have goofed on the 125. I again weighed out the same amount of 125 in pouring pot and then added the same amount of the 115 again to make a total of 2# 8 oz. After melting I poured it into the pouring pot and it weighs 1# 15 oz. What the heck is going on? First time I thought I goofed up but I watched it closely second time and it was 1 pound and 4 ounces of each wax. It is like one of the waxes is evaporating. This is the first time I have used the KY115. Any help on what I’m doing wrong? Shouldn't I at least have the same amount melted as I weighed?

    Edited to add additional information.

  6. Lorrie, it is almost 3", maybe 2 7/8". I am almost to the point of saying forget it and quitting. It seems like ever since we started making soy candles there has been problems. First there was the problem with the HTP wicks back a year or so ago, and now the soy wax being harder to burn. I get my wax from KY and she has now come out with another soy wax KY115 that you can add to the 125 and it is suppose to help it burn better. You use the same wick as you have always used with 125 when adding the 115. I am going to pour some testers while off from work Friday. Also going to test the new wax I received from Golden Brands. Hopefully I will have good luck with one of them.

  7. I was using the HTP until the problem with the soy wax. I switched to cotton and things seemed okay until lately. I am so tired of these problems with soy wax that I'm almost ready to switch to a different wax. I use the 8 ounce dodecagon jars which I may be wrong but think some people call it the classic jar. If anyone uses this jar with soy/cottonseed would you mind sharing what kind of wick you prefer? I think I was using the HTP 104 and switched to 60 cotton. Any suggestions. Thanks.
