  1. Tootie, unless something has changed in that wax over the past 2 or 3 months........be prepared for a white powdery look to the tarts after they have set for a couple weeks. Alot of us had problems with the wax appearance. I have recently mixed it with some paraffin. I think that is going to alleviate the problem. I won't EVER use that wax by itself for tarts again.
  2. Hey Jenni - I just noticed you were also in TN. What part are you in? I am in Smyrna (home of the Nissan Plant). Jami
  3. Soap Dish here too for the emu oil. It was the best price out there. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of bayousome. I knew I had seen it somewhere close to me and couldn't find it there. I would have thought some place like GNC would have it because of all the work out products they sell. The sales guy kept trying to get me to buy a powder that had MSM with other ingredients before I could get out the door. I said 3 times, NO, I want 100% msm powder sheesh lol
  4. Yeah the bohunk is 10% ewax, 8% stearic and 1% cetyl. I had to look at the recipe to see what the total % was and I ended up answering my own question lol. Since I haven't used cetyl before, I can't wait to see what a difference it makes (if any) in how the scrub feels on my skin. I do know I have really dry legs and in the winter, really dry skin. The emulisifed scrub is going to make a BIG difference in how my skin feels vs. how it felt in the past.
  5. Ann, I have cetyl but haven't used it yet. Do you replace the stearic with cetyl or split up the %? edited: never mind, I looked at my bohunk recipe and it has 19% emulsifiers as well so I will just play around with the cetyl, stearic and ewax combos.
  6. I was at a hobby store that had candy flavor oils. Can these be used to flavor lip balms? If so, how much should I use and should I add stevia to sweeten it? Any help would be appreciated
  7. I have tried several monkey farts FO's. NG by far has the best one. It is my most popular scent. Half buy it just for the name and come back for more because it smells so good. NG has a good blend of all the fruits in it. Others I have tried are stronger on the banana or other fruit.
  8. It does depend on the oils used. I have a Microsoft Word document that I found somewhere online that lists carrier oils and their shelf life. I refer to that alot when trying to decide on oils to use in a recipe. This list states: Safflower - Shelf-Life: Less than 3 months; Jojoba - Simmondsia Chinesis. Shelf-Life:Indefinite You can add .05% vitamin E oil to your carrier oils that have a shorter shelf life. It will give them a little longer life. When all else fails, you can keep it in the fridge if it is just for personal use. I am sure others can give a better explanation than I did.
  9. I have looked through and written down every scrub recipe I could find but I don't think I have seen one that looks as good as yours. Which recipe is it you use? I really like your colored scrubs! I have decided I am going to have to use all white sugar in some of my scrubs with wilton coloring just to have some "pretty" scrubs. I like using brown sugar because it isn't as harsh it sure can make some ummm "interesting" looking scrubs lol Thanks!!
  10. When I placed an order with Kangaroo Blue about 10 days ago, they were out of MSM powder. I did send an email this evening to see if they had it in yet. In case they don't, can someone point me in the right direction of where I can get it? I tried my local GNC stores and they don't carry it. I am wanting to make some muscle rub. I have my emu oil patiently waiting on the MSM powder lol Thanks!!!
  11. Polypropylene is what the #5 is made of. They have a good chemical resistance which means they don't absorb the FO and the tarts will hold their scent. They also have a higher melting point so hot wax can easily be poured in them without causing damage to the cups. I have seen one or two say that their cups have cracked. I have used them for a year. If I had any crack, it was so few I can't remember. I think you will be fine making them up for the shower
  12. I bought mine at Kangaroo Blue. If I were to get it unscented, wouldn't that be nothing more than a virgin coconut oil? I know I have read something about that before on some posts.
  13. I have some and haven't figured out a use for it because of it being scented. What did you use yours in?
  14. Now that you have broken that down into %'s, it is REAL close to the bohunk #14 recipe. The bohunk called for 1.5 oz of turbano sugar per 10 oz of the "base". I have made that one and really like it but I still can't get it fluffly like that picture. Maybe I added too much sugar, I didn't think 1.5 oz was enough.
  15. I had a problem back in the spring with sink holes in the centers of my cubes in the clamshell. I posted it when I had a problem and it was decided that I poured too hot and my room was cold so they cooled to quick. I now use the KY tart/votive wax and I get awesome results. Pretty creamy looking tarts, holds color and fragrance well and has awesome hot throw. It is also easy to come out of the tart burners.
  16. I can't help you Crystal because I can't make a fluffy emulsified scrub to suit me either. The ingredients look easy enough so I will be watching this thread closely. Thanks for bringing this topic up!!!
  17. I have used various shower gel bases and never have had to use Poly 20 to blend the FO. They blend great and never separate.
  18. Just a suggestion, try and put your caution label on the inside of the lid to see if it fits
  19. I had some extra glass glow left from a batch of candles and I did pour it in a clamshell. It didn't melt the clamshell BUT after about 2 weeks, the plastic thinned out quite a bit and lost its shape where the blocks were. I would like to think the only reason that happened is the higher heat broke down some of the plastic. I have no problems with palm tarts in electric burners but I use the fluted metal tart molds to make them now.
  20. Thanks Wen! I thought I was losing my mind reading that (which doesn't take much any more lol)
  21. I have been debating on letting this quote go or responding and I feel I have to respond. If this were the case, why would any of us strive to find the best shower products, scrubs, buy good shampoos and conditioners etc, not to mention the safest for our clients? Based on this statement, just tell them go to Dollar Tree and buy $1 products. After all, it's just going down the drain right? I strive to find the best moisturizing, exfoliating, cleansing products I can for my clients and they come back because of it. Sorry but this statement has totally blown my mind :undecided
  22. Ok I have a stupid question If flavor oils are to be put on LIPS, doesn't that make it BODY safe?
  23. I went to Panama City Beach last week. Even sitting under the umbrella and using sunscreen.....my ankles, tops of my feet and shoulders were FRIED. My ankles and feet were burnt so bad they were swollen. I just happened to take a 2 oz bottle of emu oil with me thinking if this stuff is great for serious burns and scarring, it might work for sunburn. Boy was I right, I put straight emu oil on my feet and the pain was GONE. I put it on again 3 times the next day and was totally shocked that the redness was gone by that night. I have to try your recipe with the emu oil in it. The emu oil alone is WONDERFUL but the fact that I can have some kind of moisturizing cream to go with it will make it even better!!
  24. I have used the portion cups for tarts and had no problems with the plastic. If you put straight FO in the cups, YES it will melt the plastic (don't ask me how I know lol). For BB, the FO is diluted in the lotions, butter etc and wont' hurt the plastic at all. I don't use them for samples because they are too easy to get squished, lids pop off etc. I think it depends on how you are using the samples how well they will hold up for you.
  25. EZ Soy has a melt point of 125. GB 415 has a melt point of 120-125. GB 464 has a melt point of 115 - 120. Based on melt point alone, I would say the 415 is the same as EZ soy. I would have to do a search BUT there was a post where someone ordered EZ soy and when they received their box of wax, the box had the Plain 415 info on it. That is when it was confirmed that these waxes were one in the same. Some suppliers repack in their own boxes so this information isn't divulged.
