  1. I like RBO, and use it regularly as my base oil. I've tried canola and it's pretty soft and I don't like the "feel" of it. RBO is great for my skin:D and I can get it locally. Some folks use hydrogenated soybean oil as a sub for part or all of their oo. I haven't compared the numbers.
  2. Playing around with some new scents: The top one is my first rebatch scented with spearmint/rosemary eo's The bottom left is scented with Province Clean Type The middle is scented with ginger/lime eo's The bottom right is scented with Zen Tea
  3. It brings back fond memories of my youth:D
  4. patchouli, patchouli, and patchouli, lol rosemary lavender ginger bergamot (I've never had it, but I want it:D ) ylang
  5. Yikes! LOL, what a description. What the heck is corn mint:confused: . Anyway, it sounds wonderful until you get down to the powder and amber--not my favorites. I can never smell that many things in an fo, lol. And when they start talking about a dry down, I'm totally lost.
  6. Very nice soapies! Love the blue one. Can you explain what Santorini smells like?
  7. When I began soaping, I placed a lot of importance on the numbers. But the more I soap, the more I realize that it's just as important to consider properties of oils and how the combination of oils feels on your skin. Some of the more experienced soapers I've asked about it (like Lizzy) do just that. When you begin, you just have to plunge in there. It's just like making candles, just do it and the more you do it the better you get. I hope this helps rather than confuses, lol. BTW, if you are looking in the archives for numbers, look to the really experienced soapers and then just go with one of them.
  8. Pretty soap, Meridith;) Edited because I get you and Meredith confoozled:o Also wanted to add that you got a REALLY white bar for gm. Good job!
  9. Yes, glycerin works well for me, too.
  10. The sap value for pko and pko flakes is the same. It's the same stuff, one has been flaked and the other hasn't. HTH;)
  11. Aussie green clay is more on the olive to brown side when it's cp'd. French green clay will give you a gray-green color when cp'd.
  12. Those are really pretty. Very soft colors;)
  13. I do cpop often in the winter when my batches are having a hard time gelling. The thing I don't like about it is that the surface of the soap will get tiny bubbles on it. It doesn't look bad if you are using a log mold, but I use a slab mold and I don't like those bubbles on the front of my soap...just a matter of personal preference (and I am rather picky, lol).
  14. I like cp because of the texture of the soap. Also, if you want to swirl, you'll want to do cp. Hp is difficult to swirl. Another reason for cp...it doesn't take as long. You mix the ingredients together, and it's soap. Hp requires a certain amount of time to cook. The down side of cp is that you shouldn't use it right away. You can cut the curing time by discounting your water amount, but you still need to wait awhile to use it. I like to wait a month, but you can certainly use it sooner than that. It just gets milder with time.
  15. Let's see...Halloween Soap, Hippy Guy Soap, Harley Soap. See, it's all in the marketing, lol. I think it's kinda cool looking;)
  16. I have been working on this recipe for a long time. I have very sensitive skin and there are lots of oils and additives that just don't work for me. This is a simple but mild soap, even though the conditioning number on sooz is 56. RBO 35% Avocado Oil 5% Castor Oil 10% Palm Oil 30% PKO 20% The castor is in there for more than the suds. I don't know what it is about castor, but it adds to the mildness of the bar in a way that other conditioning oils don't. The RBO ups the linoleic acid. I've tried this recipe with OO and it just isn't as mild to my skin. Adding any kind of milk will make this even milder.
  17. I just soaped 100% shea for a single oil swap on the Dish and it didn't accelerate at all. I've had strange things happen with weather changes. For example, there are certain times of the year when I can't make a batch that doesn't ash. It drives me crazy. My guess is that it's the weather. The only other thing to consider is your soaping temps. Maybe you've just gotten more impatient over time, lol., and you're soaping sooner and not letting things cool down enough. Is that possible?
  18. CP, of course. This poll thingy is going to be fun:D !
  19. Thanks all. I had heard about the problem with bacteria spreading if you pour warm. Carmen, I like your idea of storing in ziplocks. I had never thought of that. Way cool:cool:
  20. This question was inspired by another thread about putting lotions and creams in bottles. I thought I read somewhere that you are supposed to wait until the lotion is cool before you bottle it. Anyone know about this?
  21. Thanks for the reminder, eugenia. I always forget to post there:(
  22. It was a good save. I've never used pureed avocado, but I love avocado oil in soap. Let us know how it feels when you use it (bubbles, conditioning, and so forth). Thanks for posting your lovely soapies.
