  1. Sorry, does that include the weight with the cover on the container or without the cover?
  2. Thanks, (tapping the head... duh!! ouch that hurts).
  3. I am having a senior moment.... when weighing candles... I have weighed the jar, then filled it with water and weighed it again and got the volume of wax to melt. Now, (here is the senior moment...) what is the final weight to be listed on the label to say the weight that is being sold?
  4. Thanks. I believe that you are right. I am also having trouble coming up with a wholesale contract. I have looked through numerous posting but I am unable to get the "meat & potatoes" information so to speak. Do you have any advice?
  5. I have just rec. my first wholesale request. The shop was inquiring about other areas the my products were in, in a round a bout way "how many miles apart" were my products station. What is the rule of thumb? She found out about my product by simply going to a shop, and purchasing one, then called me. I am researching the wholesale sale bit. There is lots of helpful information on this site but I am having trouble "getting to the meat and potatoes" so to speak, of all of the information. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
  6. Which method is most commonly done? The Cold Process Method seems really hard from what you have just told me. I am a novice chemist by far (The Justin Wilson Way of Chemistry/ Formula.... and cooking also LOL). I am assuming that this way is a little more expensive. I am sure it will take a beating in the cost of labor when figuring in the price.
  7. Thanks. I had no idea what they looked like. They look like cute ice cube trays with covers, so to speak. I make tarts or as I call them "T'Tots" but not in the "clam shell". Do you individually wrap them or "batch rap" them or "bag them "(drop some in a bag and tie it shut). How would you suggest pricing them? Per Tart or per bunch or bag?
  8. Where can I find "clam shells"? Is it a "pop out" type deal?
  9. I am trying to start with the basics and work my way up. I think that I would like the melt & pour possible. What is the finite difference?
  10. Hi I am a newbie to soaps and I was looking to the experience for advise. Does anyone know of a great kit that I can use to start to see if I would like making soaps? I am looking for a new challenge. Could I use my pesto pot for soaps also? Also any links that I could go to with "soap making for dummies?"
  11. What about Secret Strands? Country Jems? Soaps and Stone? Stone Scents? Soaps and strings? Strands and Things? Jewel Scents? Jewel in the Oaks? Diamonds in the Ruff? Country Delights? Sorry I am from the Swamp.
  12. I have bought some silicone molds from Hobby Lobby ranging from $1.27 to 4.00. Micheals has a few but they are a bit expensive. They have really cute ice cube trays in the shape of stars, hearts, sea shells, lemons, bears, etc . They problem i am having is cleaning the molds. Does anyone spray them with PAM or Silicone spray before use? How do you clean your molds? I have seen candle mold cleaner - wax remover at Hobby Lobby for $7.99, I am a little leary ; has anyone used it? I have just been using either a hair dryer when I am in a hurry or warm soap and water. Walmart has wonderful silicone baking molds also. I wonder if the hard plastic ice cube tray would work? Pouring the molds was taking a tole on my finger tips, so I bought one of the metal racks that is about 4" tall so I could slide my mold under my pesto pot when pouring. I am also having trouble getting a smooth top on the tarts. Any suggestions?
  13. Sorry that you feel that way. Here is a hug from the South. It is very hard to work full time and start a business. I am sure that you have a great product, be confident. Look what sets your product apart from the rest and capitalize on that. I would be willing to bet that she may have felt the same way you did. The old school rule, be happy and be yourself and sure, she sells soaps oh well. The trick is to not let it get to you and don't let it show becuase if you do it will just wear you down; you will forget why you started this in the first place--- BECAUSE YOU ENJOYED IT and IT MAKES YOU HAPPY. Sure, lots of people make soaps and candles but each person, has a unique way of making them that truely sets them aprat from everyone. I work long hours in my profession and teach on the side and I am trying to start a business. Children always need something when you are trying to pour your candles, never fails "Mom, I need you, and you stop and go to see what the Emergency is (the tone of the voice which most have down pat) and..... my movie is finished (when you were hoping that she fell asleep for her nap). I have been doing all of the legal research myself and trying to get all of my ducks in a row before I seek an accountant. I think that is a normal feeling, we all have felt. So, get out there and do what you do best. Oh, stop and get a Star Bucks Coffee for the extra boost. Tilly:yay:
  14. That is about 30 minutes with the traffic from my house. Hope you brought lots of sun screen.
  15. Sorry, Just Cajun Candle Factory. Have a great drive down here.
  16. Where can I find clam shells? I bought a couple of candy molds from Hobby Lobby and some cookie cutters. I think, and if I am wrong sorry, but fluted molds are way too expensive and they loose their shape so quickly to invest "hobby stash money" in. I am soo out of the box, or left field or what ever it is called, I thought that you could just use gel wax and put it in some kind of mold and "vowla" a smelly jelly. Where do you get the smelly jelly container? I appreciate any help or " wax drippings" as I call it. I am in the middle of tiling my shop and all I have left to do it put the grout and sealer. I am "chomping at the wax" to get back in to making candles and other candle products. I notice that a lot of people just make little "chunks" of some kind and sell them in a sort of "bulk" bag; are those tarts also?
  17. Thanks. For the Pam spray, do you spray and wipe or spray and let dry or spray and pour? Pam spray, another reason for me to go to Wal-Mart!!!!
  18. Hi, I was toying with the idea of making smelly jellys & tarts. I have been searching but have been unsuccessful in finding a smelly jelly recipe. What is the standard size for tarts? What is the standard burn time for tarts? Suggested packing strategy for tarts? Ball-park sale price for tarts? :confused:I am planning to use a blend of votive & container wax to make tarts. Also, I have read some articles about using Pam spray to help with mold release; there seems to be no direct answer. Can anyone help?
  19. They also sell sealers too. When you order online from them, it sometimes takes a while to come in.
  20. Harbor Freight has cheep and excellent heat guns. I also found a lot of other useful candle making items there also.
  21. I use the medicine droppers found in the baby section at Walmart. They cost less than a buck each. I put them in a test tube rack when I am finish using them.
  22. Ms. Susan, I would try Container and Packaging Supply Company. They will give you up to 10 samples of glass but you have to pay shipping. Any-who they have them in stock. Thanks, Tilly C'est La Vie Lumiere Scented Candles
  23. So you could use a shot glass for the insert? What wax would you use to make the everlasting part? Would it require a water bath set up?
  24. What about Curtain Call, Ides of Spring, Innovation Candles, Candle Opra, The Red Carpet, Runway Candles?
