  1. Devra, when you do those relief holes, one of the benefits is that when you do a re-pour, it can get in through the holes to fill any voids. But, you have to do the re-pour for that to work. Relief holes do not let air out, they let air in, purposefully. What they actually "relieve" is a vacuum or suction. Hope that helps. Cheers, Alan
  2. You might not, but poking relief holes is good, cheap insurance. But remember, just because you don't find something in a sample of 10, it doesn't mean it'll never hapen.
  3. It probably can go through the skin... I wouldn't be surprised. But that is really a drug claim I think, which unravels a whole different dimension of FDA scrutiny.
  4. In a recent cosmetic trade show, I saw it subtly being promoted as having a "stimulant" effect on skin itself. The truth is, the effects of caffeine are actually directly related to a metabolite of caffeine (paraxanthine), and not the caffeine itself. In essence, the caffeine has to reach the bloodstream and be metabolized by the liver to have any effect at all. And then, the effects of the metabolite (the product after the liver is through with it) are really just limited to muscular stimulation (mostly smooth muscle, such as that which lines your digestive tract) and nervous stimulation, both of which respond to elevated Calcium ion concentrations. And it can't possibly be localized to skin, because by the time it is metabolized, it is circulating in the bloodstream. There is no evidence that it does anything for your skin. But the marketing ploy is to suggest that it somehow has a "stimulating" effect on the skin. Some people will buy the propaganda though... Cheers, Alan:)
  5. No, it wouldn't be a waste at all. I like doing a light tint. In fact an assortment of tinted hurricanes without any embeds looks pretty neat all lit up. I think the reason you see a lot of white is that you end up having to recycle about 80 percent of the wax you use to fill the mold. It's easier to find a use for uncolored wax. But as long as you are happy with a bunch of pink hurricanes... If you know that you are going to be doing several colors, with a little planning you can work in a progression to cover as many colors with the same recycled wax as you can. For instance, from a light pink, you could go to a red, a light purple (add a touch of blue), a pastel orange or peach (little bit of yellow), or an orange (some red and some yellow). Cheers, Alan
  6. Still not sure what you are talking about. Do you want to do a screen capture and email it to me?
  7. Not sure what you are talking about. Maybe you did a search for your name and the board is highlighting the text you searched for? Cheers, Alan
  8. The classifieds are really set up for the non-commercial clearing of excess inventory as it pertains to making or selling crafts. Some that haven't been here too long may question why there are limitations as to what may be posted there. There are currently six pages of classified ads. People who've been here for a long time will remember a time when it was first opened without any limitations. It quickly became filled with more ads for things like used vehicles and articles of clothing... everything under the sun. Ads for on-topic excess inventory became buried and difficult to find. To exemplify, consider the services that prairieannie mentioned she inquired about, which was intended to promote a web design business. First, there have been design services promoted here by various people in the past. We've seen them get derailed several times, because there are actually quite a few designers on here (guessing at least 20). Second, and more importantly, because it is off-topic and there are so many that offer the service, the actual content people come here for would become dwarfed by what would effectively become spam. Imagine 20 people advertising design services. Now imagine another 100 or so designers taking note and deciding CT is a wonderful advertising vehicle that needs to be overrun by as much spam as they can possible dish out. If we have 6 pages of on-topic ads right now, how many pages of off-topic stuff do you think you might have to wade through to get at it? Any community benefit of the classifieds would quickly be lost. Cheers, Alan
  9. Briefly stated, I enjoy working with the 4630 more than the 4627. Each one has its own merits though.
  10. It depends on the finish you are going for. If ambient temperatures are hot, it will slow down the cooling rate. This can help if your going after mottling, or trying to minimize wet spots on a container. But it can also cause pitting if your pouring temperatures are too hot. Cheers, Alan:)
  11. I'll second Mary, the ambient temperature and air velocity affect the cooling rate and will influence the finish on the candle.
  12. If you're going to use a votive wax, try one of the higher MP ones, like astorlite V. Others may melt if the user puts too large a bulb in it. With the votive waxes though, you'll lose the translucence. HTH
  13. You mean like an electric hurricane, or an electric tart warmer?

  15. If you're going to pay for traffic, be careful. There are a lot of scams out there. This is one of the more reputable ones. https://adwords.google.com/select/main?cmd=Login&sourceid=mktadv&subid=adwords&hl=en_US
